This is the very informative video Dave thanks for sharing I'm legally blind myself I've had some Mobility training when I was younger but it was more focused on using my remaining vision and using visual aids like a monocular to read street signs and be able to read addresses on buildings and see things further away it was not so much Focus around the white cane. I've always had issues of bumping into people are objects that are not directly in front of me since my visual field is so restricted I have nystagmus which affects my depth perception never thought of using cane most of my life up until now I have started using one I've not had any formal training but I am familiar with it enough to be able to use it what I'm using as a guide cane to help with steps and curbs and it's also serving as a symbol cane as well. I do also occasionally use a full Mobility cane mostly at night. I would also like to mention that I am also completely blind in my right eye due to eye injury. I can honestly say the people tend to want to be a lot more helpful when they see somebody with a white cane regardless of what type it is. I don't think I've ever seen the symbol cane that short I always thought that the guy came was a symbol cane I could probably get by with just the short symbol came but sometimes I do need to verify things on the ground. Steps in curves are real challenge especially when stepping off stairs not so much of a problem going up but a real problem going down because I cannot judge the depth nor pinpoint the exact location of where the step starts or ends also when surfaces are changing too much that throws me off as well. I could never tell if there's going to be a flat even pathway all the way through or if there's going to be a drop in ground level somewhere.

I have stargardts and have been out for some mobility training today and the lady told me that I definitely need a guide cane, I'm looking forward to seeing if it would help me as I'm always tripping / stumbling over uneven ground / curbs

I've never seen or used the first cane you showed. I use the third one you showed.

Hi David. The first cane was a Symbol Cane, small, light and easy to carry. They are great for letting people now you have a visual impairment.

Your video is amazing and very inspirational I am half blind and I am been thinking of getting a symbol stick or a cane because I have getting sick of normal sighted people when I accidentally bump into them and they say are you blind I fully blind in my left eye

I hate that these canes are the standard white that identifies me as blind . Would rather a staff like Merlin’s
