Demetrious is the man. I saw him on an elevator at a hotel in Bellevue, Washington, in 2015. My wife and I were going to have breakfast when the elevator stopped on a lower floor. Dude casually walked inside and I instantly recognized him. I was afraid to say something because I didn't want to get my feelings hurt. I finally said, "hey, are you Mighty Mouse Johnson?" he turned and said, "I am." I was so excited. I was 50 at the time - guess the kid in us never leaves. But dude said hello and even took a photo with me. It warms my heart to say I was touched by his generosity.

This is a great breakdown. As a short person with shorter reach I always have to deal with spacing and crossing that void. Everyone I’ve ever trained or sparred with is taller. I’m not a grappler so I like to be inside their strike zone and throw kicks. I like how you’re addressing your grappling issues in this match. We all know it’s easier to look later and see the missed opportunities. Sometimes we’re in a different zone and can’t see these openings. It’s definitely a brain training thing, imo.

You both have very similar fighting styles. It would be my worst fear to go up against someone who matches my own abilities and knows your every move through watching tapes. It’s like facing a shadow version of yourself and the chess game of fighting becomes even more tightly matched. What a great rivalry this started and I loved that you came back and won again. the reason I consider you pound for pound best mma fighter ever (at least top 2) is because how you came back from this loss and got the knockout in the rematch and then beat him again in the trilogy fight, you have that champion mindset that can't be taught, obviously it helps to be an extremely gifted athlete as well lol. But you have always been the most entertaining fighter for me to watch, you can see the passion you have for the game and look forward to your next fight. It will be selfishly a sad day when you decide to hang the gloves up, but no one can do this forever. Regardless when you retire you will go down as a goat of the sport with a hall of fame career.

DJ I’m a huge fan, I’m nowhere at your level, but my input would be when your facing taller guys hell bent on moving later on you switch stance a little, he’s orthodox you could go south paw and play with him at the edge don’t commit to closing but slowly pick away at his movement by throwing a lead leg kick to his right leg when he’s circling that way, mix it up two low one high surprise him and make him adapt his game to get him outta comfort, you kick him enough times he’ll slow down either from the leg kicks or questions of wether you’ll go high or low then go for you plans on closing distance, aside from that whenever your throwing your kicks get a good read on how he like to counter them and set a counter for his counter if he closes distance you’re a good on the inside range, so pick him apart, much love bro, and thank for all the great vids

Love the breakdown Mighty Mouse! My take is you have to predict which side your opponent is going to go lateral when you close the distance. Inch forward > Immediately predict a side to make sure he doesn't get away. Manny Paq had the same problem in the Mayweather fight in that he never tried to go left or right when he had Mayweather against the ropes.

    • @deathtoDERP
