So, in this story, the Devil never learned from the lesson, "Fool me once".

Charley Daniel's song "The Devil went down to Georgia" was inspired by this tale.

That old Irish ghost story inspired people to carve out turnips into glowing faces on Halloween. But then they started to use pumpkins, because they were more easier to carve. Stingy Jack’s name was changed to Jack of the Lantern when he was a wandering ghost with a turnip that had a glowing face on it. He walk the Earth for eternity after not going to Heaven or to Hell. Many centuries later Jack of the Lantern was shortened to Jack-o’-lantern and the people used that name for carved-out turnips and then for pumpkins and they eventually became very traditional on Halloween. Stingy Jack was a terrible drunk and a troublemaker who tricked the Devil so he wouldn’t take his soul to Hell for his sins in life. In death, God didn’t allow Jack to enter Heaven because of his sinful nature and the Devil didn’t want Jack because of his tricks that were played on him. So Jack went back to the land of the living along with a burning piece of coal to put in a carved-out turnip that he stole in life so he could light his way into the darkness and walk the Earth with no rest for eternity. The story of Stingy Jack and the Devil is a very interesting Irish Halloween story that inspired people to make glowing faces on pumpkins in the modern world. HAPPY HALLOWEEN! 🎃😈

I guess being a ghost with a light up turnip would be better than being in hell you know at least he has a lot a pale fire maybe he can absorb that hellfire and get some kind of come a demon

I feel kinda bad for jack even though he had it coming to him but still i wouldn't imagine going through a nightmare like that for eternity

There is a tiny spark of hope for Jack:
Only a person who is without sin can break his curse

I second that emotion. Maybe there should be a redemption story for Jack. Actually come to think of it, maybe it can be an epic adventure of some kind where he goes about fighting demons, angry ghosts, and evil spirits as well as helping people.

It’s supposed to be like, a place you go for a while to work off your sins and then you go to heaven?
I’m a Christian, but not of the Catholic variety, so I don’t believe in purgatory, but I know the Dante’s Divine Comedy.
I know it’s fictional and not exactly like the actual teachings,
(He used a lot of imagination when it comes to Heaven and Hell.)
      Is it close?
Also, I know some medieval Christians believed you had to be baptized to be saved,
(So there were a lot of legends about what happened to babies who dies before they were baptized, because babies died often back then, and nobody could think something so sweet and innocent as a baby could go to hell, but they thought you needed baptism to go to heaven, so there were many legends of ghost children and children who turned into fairies or some other magical and often trickster creature,)
Now, I know that most Christians in Europe at the time were part of the Catholic Church. So is this a Catholic belief, or simply result of a lot of people becoming confused about what baptism means?
Catholics who will see this, do you believe that baptism is necessary for salvation? Do you believe that babies go to heaven anyway, (I believe all babies go to heaven even though everyone else has to know Jesus, since Jesus loved the little children, and he knows that a baby doesn’t know much of anything,)
So maybe it’s like, you have to be baptized, but only over a certain age?
And do you believe in purgatory? If so what’s it like?
-Not trying to start a Catholic V Protestant discourse at all, just genuinely curious.
(Catholic V Protestant arguments tend to turn into great wars, until people from both sides get sick of it and invade someone else’s land to get away from it all.😂
Much to the dismay of the people living there. And we don’t have any more continents to run off to, and I don’t wanna go to Mars! The winters are too chilly and their are no ocean views. )
      😂😂😂😂😂😂
But seriously guys what do you think about these things, I’m curious.

Help, I’ve fallen down the Shakespeare rabbit hole and I can’t get up. Your interpretation of text is so complex yet easy to digest, I feel like I’m being taken through the discovery process beside you except with all the hard actually-thinking-and-putting-the-pieces-together parts significantly reduced.
I’m literally burning with questions as someone who also likes to pick apart text.
Where do you start when taking apart a text like Shakespeare’s? Do you ever get used to reading Shakespeare? What’s your favorite work of his? *Why* Shakespeare?
Ugh, I’m so curious. I was so excited when I saw you are still posting (hopefully). You’re videos are so interesting and engaging, as well as the illustrations are fantastic. Thank you for including the artist in the description. Looking forward to more of your content, and keep up the good work!

I really liked it, but I'm not sure wrist watches existed in the 13th century (when the original story based) Other than that excellent. 👌

You're right, mechanical clocks were only just being invented in the 13th century (for buildings), let alone tiny ones you could wear, lol. Though the whole look of this is Victorian, but even then they were still using pocket watches then, so yeah. Nice reading though.

If I was Jack I would have told Satan not only let him out of that coin if I got to be basically immortal no more aging never getting sick or injured and I got to live on earth like that until judgment Day until you know the end time or the end of the human race or you know judgment Day when God comes back and the final battle all that I get to live on earth until then and if he wouldn't agree to my terms and he'd stay in that coin eventually I think he'd agreed to my terms if not he just stay in that coin and who knows what would happen when I died I wouldn't go to hell because there wouldn't be no devil down there or whatever but maybe some new guy would have took over I told him I'd have to have that Queen melted down or I dropped that coin into the bottom of the ocean to the deepest darkest part of the ocean the Marianas trench make sure that coin drops to the deepest darkest part of the ocean if we didn't agree to my terms I think you'd agree
