Jo wasn't writing about her family when the friend criticized her. She was writing over exaggerated fantasy stories for the newspapers (something that would sell). The friend knew she was talented enough to write something more honest.
As a young woman growing up in the 21st centurs Jo is one of the most relatable characters out there for me. The conflict between wanting independence and respect but also wanting to be loved... "Woman, they have minds and they have souls, as well as just hearts. Ans theyve got ambition and theyve got talent as well as just beauty. Im so sick of people saying that love is all a woman is fit for. Im so sick of it. But im so lonely"
to be honest the version that I enjoyed the most was the one from 1949 with Elizabeth Taylor and the version from 1994 with Susan Sarandon.....this book is great and beautiful .... glad you watched....
The lead actress's name is pronounced Sur- (rhymes with fur) -sha. The film adaptation is confusing even for people who know the story well, - all that jumping back and forth in time. If you want a very faithful version of the novel, try the 1994 movie starring Winona Ryder. This was directed by Greta Gerwig, who also directed Barbie. Little Women was published in 1870, and has NEVER been out of print since.
I really enjoy this adaption, but it is not my favorite. I love the 1994 adaption with Winona Ryder. It feels warmer and I connect to those actors more.
I know this question is unrelated to this film, but are you ever going to do a reaction to “Help!” by The Beatles. You did “A Hard Day’s Night” about a year ago and seemed to enjoy that. I was just wondering why you didn’t follow up with their second film soon thereafter. It’s completely different from the first film. It has elements of a wacky James Bond film. I think it’s very funny. Perhaps not as good as AHDN but still definitely worth a look.

I too relate to her hard, i love my family to bits and am also a very homely and awkward person but i do "care more to be loved."
You should watch the older one with Winona Ryder, Susan Sarandon, and Christian Bale

Wonderful movie reaction. Good one. I do hope you and you're family have a wonderful Christmas. Happy Christmas to you.
Merry Christmas to ReelOz
The older version from the 90s is much better than this one. You should watch it.

The 1994 adaptation with Winona Ryder is one of the best movies ever made. This Little Women is OK.
