    The biggest thing I learned from this and other videos that I watched is not to include work experience that is past 15 years. Good video.

    Recruiters need to mind their own business about gaps on your resume. Be real! Is the candidate a good fit or qualified for what I am advertising for? This should be the ONLY criteria when a candidate sits in front of you.

    I’ve watched a slew of similar videos, this one is full of meaty suggestions. I’m in my 60s and looking for a job. At times, I have panic attacks about ageism. This helped immensely! Thank you both!

    Great video! Thank you Kenneth! I’m 59, jobless and for the first time I feel insecure about interviewing due to my age. You answered so many questions and your pleasant, calming voice helps too. Thank you sir!

    This was great although I would love to see an update to this as AI is now part of screening applicants on job boards. I have not had success with Indeed regarding my job search or any other job board for that matter. Since September anticipating a layoff, I applied to 50+ jobs with 0 response. Job Boards are not the way to find work any longer.

    Thank you! It was very helpful. The problem I run into are dates because you can't go forward if you don't enter them especially college graduation dates.

    My understanding is there will be a large decline in children born in next several decades, which means older workers will be essential to keeping companies running. I say older I'm talking 40s, 50s, and 60s. Even some 70 year-olds too. Mu concern is that ageism doesn't affect both male and female employees equally. It's definitely worse for older women, despite their experience, training, and excellent critical thinking skills.

    This was awesome! I'll be checking out these links, but some key points you mentioned just lept out at me. I'll probably listen to this more than once. Great Q& A. Wonderful speaker. I will be making changes to my resume. Also regarding wording in job postings...I have been really suspicious of things like ...more than one years experience... regarding age of target hires. Thanks for confirming some of my suspicions. Better to know what we're up against rather than to burn up with self doubt and confidence killing hidden messages.

      I watch out for “fast paced.” Also a red flag to me is the phrase “rock star.” I’m looking for a job in my 60s and I’m being very careful where I apply. Excellent video.

    Thank you for the clarification regarding older workers such as myself. I am very early 60's and just recently (6 months ago) lost my Operations Manager position due to corporate restructuring as they called it. I have interviewed at several companies and not one offer. I go in full of energy and extremely qualified, but nothing. I do not get nervous at interviews, well unless I am thrown a curve during the interview. Still, no offers sadly.

    You did not state at the beginning that many older workers may HAVE to work until they die.
    Also, many older workers DO have the ability to be flexible because they are widowed or divorced with no kids living at home, so they can work nights, weekends, whatever is needed.

    Has anyone here, young or old. ever applied to a big company and gotten a response without any inside connections? I have never gotten a response from a Fortune 500 company, only smaller ones with under 100 employees. The largest company to ever call me had about 1000 employees and they were local to my city.

    I once attended an interview for an office job. When I turned up there were 5 men and just me in a small room. I was then told to sit up on the couch so we can "get a good look at you". The humiliation I've endured in the workplace for being born a female is truly criminal.

    All are good points, unfortunately not all companies give older workers the same opportunity as they do with younger workers.

    Ironically, when you apply for a job through Indeed, one of the questions a potential employer can ask "how many years of Microsoft experience do you have?" They can easily do the math based on the answer you give. If you are not a person who misrepresents yourself like me, you are fuched.

    If an interviewer is asking questions like “How long do you plan to work?”…there is already a problem 🙄

    Thank you for the useful information. Do you suggest uploading a resume you have created on Word or Docs to Indeed or do you recommend just using one of the available templates?

    This was fantastic! I am re-entering the world of Banking, Mortgage Underwriting specifically. I'm planning on taking 5 mortgage underwriting classes which comes with a certificate of completion. Where is the best place to highlight this since it will show that I have up to date training even though I have not been actively working?

    • @Indeed
      @Indeed  3 роки тому +1

      You can reference the certificate in your Education section. If you are still completing the program, you can put "In Progress" in place of a completion date until you have finished. You can also reference your classes when addressing your employment gap in your Work Experience section. what if your last/current job was almost 15 years long? I would exclude all other experience if I follow the advice to only show 15 years experience.

    • @Indeed
      @Indeed  3 роки тому +1

      In this case, one thing you could do is to address your current role in your Experience section, and then list prior roles in an Additional Experience section below that. For each role in the Additional Experience section, include only title, company, and location. This would allow you to demonstrate your depth of professional experience without permitting the employer to dwell too much on how far back it goes. -CC
