Note: as of 1.1.2023 CA permits legal Jay walking outside of crosswalks as long as it is safe to do so. So your good sah.
It was interesting to see that you still can use money to pay for your ticket.😃
'don't stand there' Where's the first place they go to when there's limited seats, right to the back door. 😂
I love the architecture of the 1960s Sears building.
Thanks for showing what the back of the bus looks like. I like bus backs and not enough show them.
Bet you wish you got to drive a GM New Look. Toronto Canada only retired theirs just over a decade ago.
Yes!! I would love to drive a GM new look!
i can't drive a bus that has the steering wheel all the way up like that haha
Neither can I! Very uncomfortable!
Please visit Detroit soon, you would love our Gilligs up here with DDOT and SMART. Bus fare is very cheaper, you could used an all day pass on both buses, we have a 6 hour unlimited bus pass and 24 hour pass.
If I ran RT I’d rent spaces near staging areas for routes and put kitchens, dining sets, quiet rooms, and staff masseuses and light chefs. That’s unacceptable.
Aka Swing lounge/swing room.
I truly appreciate what y'all bus operators are doing out there for the people and i appreciate y'all services of being in the battlefield, i appreciate some decent conversations with some of y'all bus operators in Chicago and other cities as well. I might not understand your struggle but let's spread the love and support to our bus operators out there.
Thank you!
in south africa we lean on the door and the driver doesn't care
omfg i know right, standing by the back door, keeping it open.. ugh... those people
Good ol' Florin and 65th Street. I know it well 😁
Yup!!
Is it up to the individual drivers to make those decisions? There have been two times in my life where drivers have basically said "just get on". One was during a freak snow storm (otherwise a very beautiful day, and 60-ish degrees outside, except for a 40 minute period). Apparently a lot of people were outside in spring/summer clothes and the temperature had dropped in about 10 minutes. The other time was when one bus broke down during a blizzard and the next (which was already scheduled 30 minutes later) was delayed another 17 minutes. When the bus got there the driver let us on and said, don't worry about paying, what bus do you need to connect to? (This bus was to a secondary station with about 5 busses instead of the main station with 15 busses). This driver also contacted the busses that would be at the secondary station and made sure we could connect to them (even stopping at a red light to let some of us cross the road to connect where there wasn't supposed to be a stop).
In this particular case..the farebox made the decision by not working properly lol. Other times we have to make the best possible choices while out in the field. It’s not a best practice to call dispatch for every single situation unless instructed to do so. Sometimes it’s best to keep the service moving if someone refuses to pay. Other times depending on the situation a driver may call for help. There are policies and procedures in place as well so it really varies. Nothing is ever the same every single time.
I could have swore that used to be a Montgomery Wards at Florin & 65th.
I have never been in New AM/PM but was doing the 81 back in early 2021 when they first broke ground for it.
Looks really fancy.
Please call in or put in a service ticket to resolve this issue.
It be hard for us bus drivers to find healthier restaurants to go to on the job because most of my routes go through the fast food neighborhoods only. Today i made me a big cup of kale, celery, collard greens, green apples with water and cinnamon powder to it and it was awesome to have at work.
Always remember, buses are completely invisible. By extension, all signage on the bus, the driver and all garbage cans on the bus are 100% completely invisible and impossible to read, see or hear.
I appreciate your channel Bus Driver Life. You are a great person and this channel also help me learn to grow as a bus operator.
I don't understand why more people don't pay with Connect Cards or Zip passes. It's cleaner and saves everyone time.
What route were you driving?
61
Glad this is the course of action. Is it a policy or up to you? I could imagine some people trying to tell people they need to use the fare despite it being un..fare
The man leaving the store 😂😂😂😂
He was arguing with the cashier in the store..I caught the aftermath 🤣🤣🤣
I know this is probably an off-topic question but would forklift experience help out your resume to apply as a bus operator
sears is dead, that mall looks like detroit lol...
Do drivers take more than one route each day? And do some stuck to one route?
What route were you on today?
How often do you have a full bus, all the seats filled? I remember riding some crowded buses in Chicago during the rush hours.
Depends on the route and the time of day. I get a crowded bus on certain days especially when I operate near schools.
No fare days equals people standing there with money suddenly tryin to pay regardless of the sign and covered fare box 🤦🏾♀️. Time wasted and patience tester for sure.
I’ll be getting my cdl soon I have to do my school bus and passenger endorsement tomorrow after my morning monitor run
Cool!
Awesome! I hope it winds up being a great career for you. 👍
Keep up the good work, I just started my job as a bus operator. 1 month now.
The tapping thing has been in the Netherlands and many other EU and Asian countries for a long time. Happy to see the US also adding this. 1 thing I do have to note, in the Netherlands you can NOT buy a ticket on a bus, you need to do that before getting on (by getting a card to tap in and out) This can be a serious issue as recharging points for those cards are not everywhere and getting a card to start with can get tricky if you are not near one of the major cities.
No crossover mirrors, even with that bike rack?
Where would they put crossover mirrors on a flat faced bus? I had them when driving conventional school buses back in the day because of the “nose” sticking out.
@@BusDriverLife The mounting brackets come off the roof in an L shape. I was just shocked to see a bike rack and no crossovers.
@@BusDriverLifecan you discuss your school driving experience..the parents, pros and cons, comparison to what you do now. That would be interesting.
Do these buses have keys? If not, can't somebody just drive off?
I know plenty of drivers wouldn’t give a darn about the time being off or would at least try offer some compromise that isn’t free rides to everyone such as selling the transfer as the person exits
Hey that's my Urban outfitters bag.
Not anymore it’s not
🤣😂
Those chps look really good. 😂😊
I eat them a lot myself, good taste
I never took public buses in Jacksonville, Florida, but I definitely took a lot in NYC and malfunctioning fare boxes all the time that the drivers have to give free rides to passengers until maintenance fixes the bare boxes itself.
Thank you for these videos and those are my favorite cookies including chocolate chip. Lol 😂
I started eating the same chips right before starting this video. 🤣🤣🤣
i need to pull up in sac and hop on your bus
Mississauga Transit, Brampton Transit, TTC, Hamilton Street Railway, and York Regional Transit uses a Presto Card system for people to ride the bus. I must say also GO Transit is the same as well. The connect system is similar to Presto. Is there a lot of outages with the machines?
Not a lot of outages but they do happen periodically.
@@BusDriverLife thank you for answering my question. I know we had outages with the Presto Card system which happened quite a bit but now it's not as bad today. Usually, when that happens, the bus driver will not charge for the fare either. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! It's great listening to your videos. There very insightful!
Very fair to nix the fare if the clock is not fair about the fare ... ;-)
Exactly! 😎
