St Nedelya church has a very gruesome history. It was the place of the bloodiest terrorist attack in Europe where the communists, at that time they had very small following in Bulgaria, killed 150 people of the ruling elite. Only Madrid in 2004 has more victims on European soil and it was in multiple attacks. Incredible disasters both of them.
Another church with very interesting history is the church of St Sophia, which the city is named after. The current building was built in the 6th century by Justinian I. It's one of the most important early Christian structures in Europe together with the Rotunda in the courtyard of the Presidency building.
And finally Boyana church, a UNESCO site with the biggest fresco collection of the period in Europe. Where the first breaking out of the older church dogma can be seen with the humanisation of the characters painted and going for a realistic style. These are part of the first stirrings of the Renaissance in Europe that can be seen on the Balkans.
Overall Sofia has some truly incredible places to visit, only the churches can take a while, let alone the rest.

Thanks for the info! Sofia is also rich in history and culture. I was overwelmed by the stories when I joined the walking tour. 😉

No, the train is not longer than the bus by one hour. It is about the same time to the Central Station, with traffic and all. There are some trains that take longer but not all. And the bus is more expensive than the train and has always been.not the same price. The train is 6 euros for first class! with more room and few people around and a toilet. If you are a student, you can get further discount on the train ticket. So your info is wrong.

Hello Rositsa, based from my experience, yes, train and bus are almost of the same price same goes for the travel time. I took bus going to Sofia and travel time is same as train.

For argument's sake, went online just now to check the latest ticket prices Plovdiv Sofia. For Karata S it is 14 Leva, for the fast train 2nd class, which is the equivalent, it is 9.50 Leva, if no reductions.. Please tell me how this is the same price?

I don’t need to prove something to you Rositsa. But I know for sure that the ticket cost is the same that time. In addition, everywhere in the world transportation fare keeps on changing. So what you are looking now is the most updated but I’m sharing the one based on what I have experienced.
