I enjoyed this very much. It was most informative and helpful! I restore old dolls and I have a few that require this beautiful hairstyle. They have mohair and human hair wigs. I will share with my sister, as she does the same. Thank you

This was fascinating. I came upon this video by chance as I'm getting into historical dress making from the Victorian era and your video was a suggested video. I'm so glad it was too!

Thank you and I'm so glad it was suggested to you. There are a few Victorian looks here (all pretty simple, as was the look of the time). Have fun with your looks :)

This is so gorgeous, yours is the best video of this style which I'm going to try and recreate on myself. I recognise your Australian accent, I'm in the Blue Mountains NSW. I wish you were going to be doing my hair instead of me 😂

Thank you for this alternative method of doing this. I did similar steps for the first half of this video, but with that top knot I used a small donut and just donut the shape for that loose end. I never thought of using pins and the thumb to do the knot at the top. Thank you again for this.

Thank you so much, I'm glad this was useful to you. There are always alternative finishes in any period of hairdressing and fashion, so I'm glad you are adding your personal finish to the look :)

Thank you! Well done!! What a beautiful and complete tutorial!
I’m sorry some people are so rude. They should be ashamed of themselves. You are taking your time to share your skills and experience and they are benefiting from you. Don’t mind them. 💕
    And I remember Phyllis Diller!

I dread the idea of roughing up my cuticle by back combing but this makes me crave that shaped volume! Thank you for the very informative and easy to follow tutorial! Cheers

    • @martinthillier

In many cases hair was not cut that often so there was a lot more to play with. But in any period in history, society, you either have money or you don't. So people would work with what they had. Many pieces were used ( as I show in my other tutorials). Thanks so much for watching :)

I have extremely fine, thin and barely shoulder length hair. I would like to see an Edwardian style utilizing hair that is short

    • @martinthillier
      @martinthillier  Рік тому +2

Noted! If hair was, for some reason short in that period. Hair extensions and transformations would have made up for the lack of natural length in man cases :)

It’s unlikely I’ll ever need to do any of this unless my daughter develops a love of acting or historical reenactment, but I could listen to you talk all day long 😁 I do enjoy doing hair but my twins are 1 so I’m lucky to get a ponytail in her hair to keep it out of her eyes right now!

    Hello Edward,
Could you be so kind to tell me if the back combing is for straight hair only? I have very curly hair . Even though it is fine hair I have a lot with lovely body. I would love to work this style into my hair styling choices also maybe I should look into the Gibson hairstyle.
    Thank you so much.
    Maureen

Hi MoMo. Back Combing can be used on all hair types. But if you wish not to backcomb, you could always use a pad that matches you hair colour or even a hairpiece to fill the hair out. Curly or wavy hair was very popular for these looks so you should be fine. I also talk about "drawing" in other videos (this is using your own hair to make a matching pad to fill you hair out. Hope this helps :)
