You can totally do 1 on it's own. Each is basically a great novel study with some spelling and grammar work built in, so they would be a great supplement if you wanted to do it occassionaly or as a novel study type month.
I have been thinking of Brave Writer for a while. The price tag is what is causing me pause. Would you recommend just purchasing a literary single to try it out? Not sure my child could keep up with the pacing of a new book every month.
That's exactly how we got started with them! we got 1 single. I also find that a month is a bit short for everything that is included. I'm actually on the fence between purchasing the year long program or just 5 or 6 singles for next year and doing them more slowly. But they are a great literacy program.
So it's recommended for grade 3-5 (dart level) but you could easily adjust it down. My 1 grade answers all the questions orally and is fine with it. The copy work could be cut down and you'd still get the benefits of it. I would just recommend that they can read decently well. Once they can, they can handle it, in my opinion.
I have been looking into this for awhile. This is the best video I have found explaining in "mom" detail of what the program really is! Thanks so much
I'm so glad it was helpful!
Very helpful as I have been going back and forth on purchasing this! Thank you

Thanks for sharing! Do you think this can be used as a supplement?

My kid turned 7 in March and we are starting second grade next year. Would you recommend it for second or third grade?

How long does a unit typically take?
Each unit is designed to be 4 weeks. You could stretch them out a little if you wanted.
