By any chance do you have a video on how to update a lsi 9300 16i card just purchased one on AliExpress I haven’t received it but I would want it to be as up to date as I can be.
I don't have such a video, but basically you run the firmware update per the usual instructions, but you need to do it twice since that card has 2 controller chips.
Be aware that the firmware and driver quality of Broadcom HBAs took an extreme nosedive with the models that got released after Broadcom took over from AVAGO which in turn took over from LSI (beginning with the HBA 9400 line-up). It has become a sad joke.
@@ArtofServer One “funny” example: Broadcom has actually released Windows drivers with expired signatures for the PCIe Switch HBA P411W-32P (try to install the drivers from the Win 11 subfolder) and no one cares. That model crashes every system when trying to use the S3 Suspend-to-RAM function (on paper supported by Broadcom HBAs), the same had happened with the HBA 9500-16i but this was finally fixed with the recent P28 firmware update. But basic stuff like SMART Monitoring is still broken, regular tools or SSD manufacturer software can’t detect drives handled by the HBA 9500-16i since it changes and abstracts the drives similar to RAID Adapters in the past, basically defeating the whole point of a deliberately simple HBA.
I just got the 9300-8i card. When I go to the Broadcom website, the BIOS and firmware versions on there is older than than the BIOS and firmware versions that shipped with the card. Kind of weird.
Hi, thank you for all helpful videos. I get a question about hp z840, I have the rdimm 2133Mhz memory but why it only showing 1866mhz, what can I do to max the speed, I have 2 cpu xeon v3 , thank you
I dont have a Z840. Saying that, check the DIMM config of your machine. many machines will down clock when all the slots are full or the config is not balanced. Quick vid on which slots to put your DIMMS in ua-cam.com/video/Z_wf9sDUrTo/v-deo.html Service manual h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04823811.pdf You can also double check the specs of your CPU. As not all supported CPUs do 2133 speeds. E5-2640v3, xx30, xx23, xx20, xx09 and xx03 are 1866 parts. After that, Presuming you have been through the BIOS for memory settings. Its cleaning slots and CPU pads. Good luck. I hope you don't have a bad stick that messing everything up for you.
@Yandarval I'll doubt check, yes mine is e5-2640v3 that's why it's only 1866mhz memory. Thank you so much for detail, any recommendations cpu for me to upgrade to get that full 2133mhz speed, I want to upgrade that without breaking my bank. Thank you
The memory speed is going to depend on several factors, including type of RAM (RDIMM, LRDIMM), and DPC (DIMM per channel). The maximum speed is usually accomplished in 1DPC configurations. If you go with 2DPC or 3DPC, it will usually reduce the RAM speed. So, my guess is that you probably have a 2DPC or 3DPC configuration.
Would it be possible to ask for some assistance over on eBay? I have a lsi 9240-8i that has had its original (shipped with a SM opteron server) firmware wiped but i am now having some trouble getting into the u/efi shell to install the 9211-it firmware and i was wondering if you can assist me?

Do you have a video that breaks down the differences in HBA model numbers? Like 9300 vs 9305 or 9207 vs 9210 (May not be real numbers, just examples)
Yes search "hba comparison 2020 art of server"
