    Today the cleaning of the goat pen made my day.
    I didn't know it involves alot of work but now I understand why you have been able to keep such a healthy herd.

    With the mothers who have the new babies have you guys thought about maybe using a cut and carry system until the kids are strong enough to go out with the others say maybe keep them from grazing for 2 weeks. Reasons being it seems a long time for them to be away from their moms especially the fact they are newborns and proper feeding in the early stages can have a great effect on growth

    How do you clean the exercising yard as it is full of grasses? I think it can be a source of issues.

      We actually cleared all the grass from the exercising yard and we put dry grass as the bedding for the kids.

    You guys, the Somali people have more than 600 years back for all livestock experience including goats . By the way Somali goats are very good genetics called Galla Goats or Somali goats.

      Man, Somalis don't know how to rear livestock. They just herd them without seriously taking care of them. They don't see parasites as serous and disease carrying organisms.

    I've noticed the kids aren't tagged yet, when is the right time to put tags on kids?

      We tag the kids after 8 weeks
      And when they're ready to go grazing with the mums.

      So it's not necessary to tag at birth? For example, to keep record of which kid is born from a certain doe etc

      @@bernice7814 You can't tag the kids at birth. Take note of nanny and buck tag numbers for record keeping purposes and when the kids are old enough ( 8 weeks) tag them too.

    Sleep is just as crucial to goats as it is to humans. If a goat isn’t getting sleep, it can signify that they are stressed, depressed, or even sick.

      It really depends on the plan of the farm. But over 200 goats can be sufficient for 20 acres of land

      We actually have female workers at the farm. Our assistant manager is a lady and we also have females helping with the cooking and other chores.

      The kids always know their mothers. But we have a person on duty to give the kids to the right mothers. The tags also help us a lot.
