This is a re-made better quality version of my comparison between the challenge course in Daytona 2: Power Edition (running on Supermodel SVN 270) and the same challenge course (one of the bonus tracks) played in Outrun 2 running on an original Xbox.
When I made the old split-screen video, I didn't actually own any video software that let you make split-screen videos. I literally just played each video back in minimised form on my desktop in a different media player and then used Bandicam to record that specific area of screen. The result worked, but it meant the videos were a bit out of sync and one of the players was lagging ever so slightly, giving Outrun 2 a bit of a choppy appearance.
Another factor to consider was that between the different individual Daytona USA stages in the Outrun 2 version of the challenge course, you get the linking bunki section (with all the street lamps like you normally get in Outrun 2 between stages), which meant that after the first stage Outrun 2 was getting to the same area of the game as Daytona 2 much later, so I've edited the bunki bits out in this so the games are running through the same area more equally. The Outrun 2 version does, however, enter the Daytona 2 'Expert stage' area at a different section of the track compared to the real challenge course - but Outrun 2 actually seems to run a bit faster than Daytona 2, so it does catch up a with the Daytona car a little bit further along. Interestingly, in the Japanese version of Outrun 2, changes were made to make the bonus level more similar to the proper Daytona arcade challenge course, including where you start off in the 'Advanced stage' area and also the addition back of the covered area that leads you to the 'Expert track' part of the course. You actually then start the Expert Course part in a similar position to the real Daytona 2 Challenge Course, unlike the Euro and US versions of Outrun 2. Similar cosmetic changes were made to the Japanese version of Outrun 2's Scud Race themed bonus track, one example of which is the addition of the planes flying overhead in the 'Beginner Night Stage' area. It looks like OutRun 2 reuses tracks from Daytona USA 2, which is cool (although the graphics in both games are different) since OutRun 2 _did_ have home releases while Daytona USA 2 sadly didn't. I used to play Daytona USA 2 at Chuck E. Cheese's, so as soon as I purchase the PlayStation 2 version of OutRun 2, I will have some great nostalgia fun with it. Great work on this comparison video!
Thanks. The Daytona USA 2 and Scud Race tracks are only in the original Xbox version of Outrun 2 though. They aren't in any of the versions of Outrun Coast 2 Coast that came out on the PS2 and other systems.
Whoops! That's too bad since the PlayStation 2 was the most popular video game console. My mistake. I'll just purchase the North American NTSC Xbox version of Outrun 2 then. Thanks for the correction!

Only Sega could pull this magic, i stll cant believe Sony are still doing great with a bunch of lame games with no artistic value, Arcade are also dying, these kind of game were fun for a good adrenalin shot

Huh.. Outrun 2's Daytona Mix track layout is quite different. I think that Daytona 2 and Outrun 2 are separate universes or a what if era... or both be non-canon racing!
It's funny how different the tone of Outrun 2 is compared to Daytona USA 2. In Outrun 2 (just like the first game), it's much more relaxed with pretty upbeat tunes while you're driving a Ferrari with your babe, and in Daytona 2, it's like "FUCK YEAH, BOYS!!! LET'S GO RACING!!! (intense engine roars)". Just something to think about.

That's a huge difference, I didn't expect it to be so one sided. I don't remember the colors being so muted in the PC version of Out Run.
I think Sumo probably had to sacrifice the quality of the visuals in the bonus stages a bit, despite the difference in hardware power between the Xbox and the Sega Model 3 board. As well as the three tracks here, there are also another 15 regular Outrun stages and the additional 4 that make up the Scud Race bonus stage, compared to the Daytona arcade machine that only had 3 stages. Colour-wiser I don't think there's any real difference between the PC version of Outrun 2006: Coast to Coast and this Xbox version of Outrun 2, but the PC version is able to display the game in higher resolutions, making it look a lot sharper and far better anti-aliased. Having said that though, I'm sure I read somewhere that the Xbox version has some bloom effects that actually aren't in the PC version.
When you are having trouble with drifting, try to do the POWER SLIDE.
Great video!! But only the Xbox version has this course as a bonus track, or the PS2 and PC versions incluide them too?
The bonus stages are only in the Xbox version of Outrun 2. No other console ever got a version of Outrun 2; Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast was the follow up game, which is the one that appeared on all the other systems (including the Xbox also), but it doesn't have the bonus stages included.

If you've got an Xbox 360 Outrun 2 is one of the backwards compatible original Xbox games. If you do it that way and you play your 360 via HDMI cable, the game gets upscaled into HD and looks amazing. Alternatively, you can pick up an original Xbox for next to nothing these days, which you can then softmod which'll allow you to play the Japanese version of Outrun 2, which has got significantly cosmetically improved versions of the bonus stages.

daytona usa 2 should of been on dreamcast but the good thing is daytona 3 is coming out now
