Their other album the same thing. It's the most perfect for riding down Beverly/ 1st in Los Angeles away from downtown toward Vermont. If you listen around sunset and hit the curve when the water is spraying from the car wash, forget it. This music is Los Angeles to me (although they from New York or Chicago or something) Good call
Y'all are spot on. The album cover for Beat is the 405 / 55 freeway interchange in Costa Mesa / Newport in Orange County. Perfect image for the sound of the record
I love all of Bowery Electric's music, but this has to be their crowning achievement. The most perfect blend of shoegaze and trip-hop ever, that will never be topped.
right before Logic turned an Apple laptop into every instrument you would ever need and then you had post 90's homogeneity that there's nothing left to advance.... it's been conquered since the 90's
when you watch the video as you listen the music it brings back childhood memories even tho i didnt born in 96 i feel connected spiritually with this video, i come back here almost everyday in the past years
@@WC-PO i think it's a shame that Hooverphonic drifted into more pop sounds after a great debut. The rest aren't bad albums, but they just seem to be missing that spark, and dreamy vibe.
This is always playing in my ears while I'm thinking all the life choices I've had. Most of them failures obviously and name of the song describes the situation I'm in: fear to take step.
Maybe this sounds strange, but listening to Bowery Electric is not an escape for me, it's the opposite. I often feel as if I'm disconected from myself, my mind kind of out of sync where clarity seems just out of my grasp but listening to this plugs me back in and makes that connection. No other music does this for me.
Saw this live so good - for the guitar pedal nerds out there.....the secret sauce in the guitar sound is the Rotovibe :) I stood in the front row and watched Lawrence play this. The Rotovibe is the pedal he plays for the entire song - it's glorious.
this is the glow of a cool August night, this track will remain in my memory forever. I listened to a lot, but this is one of those tracks that remind you of moments and reproduce something that you have never experienced (for those who understand)
This is defined as "Dream Pop" but for me it is the greatest expression of "Industrial" (in the truest sense not as in the genre). I still can't get over how fucking brilliant the soundscape is in this track, and I've been listening to it for over a decade.
por años buscando este tema, lo escuche en grooveshark una vez, se cerro la cuenta y hoy recupere mis playlists y aca estoy escuchando y viendo el video, muychas gracias. Este tema me acompaño en un momento trascendente en mi vida
Awesome...had 2disc for years...never saw vid from which cover image was grabbed...love it. Was lucky to see them in Chicago once with Robert HAMPSON/MAIN/GODFLESH...SOOOO GOOD
. I was searching through the MTV show 120 minutes I had recorded the night before, when suddenly this little beauty pops up. I must have listened to this track about a hundred times on ( video tape ). From what was a very bleak uninteresting time in so called indie music after say 1994 ( except for F.S.A. ) this was pure indulgence. Got it on vinyl as well which is worth a few £ today. Never would sell it.
I feel like this song represents the uncovering of repressed issues through nightmares. Around the time i found this song I'd been having nightmares almost every night for a few months, eventually leading to me becoming aware of things and recent events in my life that i was still processing and dwelling over, and were making me feel horrible on an almost daily basis. When i heard this song and read the lyrics I realized it perfectly represented what I'd found by searching in myself. We all get used to dreams that used to please us, or even carry no apparent meaning to us, but when these dreams become dark and unsettling it's a startling and frightening experience. These dreams bring to our awareness things that we've become unconscious of, and only by becoming conscious of these things can we be freed from them. Just my interpretation tho, I'm sure i sound super pretentious lol.
Something made me think of this song tonight, I needed to hear it again. It resonates so strongly with me. I remember flying through space, this is how it felt. I know, sounds pretentious.🤷♀
What a track!!! So thankful the Google algorithm brought this into my feed!! Maybe because I’ve been listening to some Flying Nun-esque music... ALL good!!
God damn I need a 4k remaster of this!! Proper too, none of that ai shit. I wanna see that 16mm negative scanned in baby. Shit I'd pay for it if I could
This took me 3 weeks to try and remember "Bowery Electric" I've been wanting to play this track but forget the name........ Oh and Archers of load of the side bar... thats my morning sorted.
While most probably associate the "glide guitar" style of MBV with the shoegaze sound, this is one of my favorite guitar sounds that i hold as a quintessential example of the shoegaze atmosphere
For me it's the perfect theme for big cities, somehow so industrial yet so somehow full of character. Unbelievable timeless tune

The sound of NY
Absolutely!! I love hearing other people’s thoughts on associating different types of music with specific places and spaces, it’s so intrinsic to me

Agree, its a unmatched unique piece. Just WOW!.

Nothing about this is trip-hop
This piece changed my life

the most 90s sounding drum sample ever
Colm III?
It brings me back to when I listened to Massive Attack as a kid.
when this came on I thought it was a Portishead song I hadn't heard yet

this is the sound that captures the late 90's and transition to the new millennium
This song is a gift to skateboarding.
God bless Transworld
This song is just one long, delirious, surrealist fever dream...spacious and eternal, textural, layered, ethereal and subline.
shut up you twat
Wow. That was very well said, thanks!
hell yea dude!
One of the greatest songs ever.
Timeless track. Holds a very special place in my heart.
Cool combination of shoegaze's warmth and trip hop's groove. It's weird that nobody thought of such combination before or after Bowery Electric.
Chapterhouse delved into it a bit.
Check out Nr. 9 by Hooverphonic, from 1996. :)
You might dig Isabel's Dream. A bit of jungle influence too.
Slowdive did on souvlaki...and check out Quique by Seefeel

i'm glad to see that more people are getting into this amazing music
So very 90s. All these colors through the film camera. 90s, as any other decade, had its unique vibes. This video catches them pretty well.

This song makes the world stop for me, I lose all comprehension.
I relate
oh really I understand that..
this will never go away
Lovely song and album. Takes me back to when I used to play this on the drive to my therapist. This was around 2020 after the height of covid lockdown
The melding of this song with this video creates a masterpiece

Walk across campus to this song constantly. I don't think I've ever seen a more fitting video to a song.
11 years later does it still bring back memories?
Holy shit! I LOVE THIS. Shoegaze warm and trip hop groove.

I wouldn’t say it’s dreampop. More like Shoegaze trip hop
yes, the sound is so urban, it reminds me of soviet buildings and brutalist architecture , immersiveness in an overcrowded city
@@coldercoronet6248 I don't disagree
@@drevm right? It's evocative of these things, and yet compelling. Brilliant.
They're actually classified as 'drone', especially their first album.
Bowery Electric was one of the best post rock bands of the 90's and that is really a compliment!!!!!
perhaps... the best sound ever... missing them...

I fell in love with this band

Here the movie plays as an important role as the music. The airport environment makes it more surreal, isolated from reality..
I feel more real than i ever have before
simply genius arrangement and mix down.
Certain aspects of this video remind me of the 'Jupiter and beyond the infinite' scene in 2001:A Space Odyssey

What kind of art or even state of mind is that? It's just pure nihilistic, isolated reality to me and i enjoy it like a drug.
Knockoff it's like a trip straight to the 90's lifestyle, isn't it?
Hell yeah, simplier and more honest, the time that when people were more real and relationships meant much more in that simple and thoughtful times.
