Love Ella :)
anyone else notice that american art education seems to push a very technical and commerical style rather than focussing on process/risk taking/creativity/generating complex and original ideas? maybe that's just me
Laura Rose i think it depends. I go to SAIC and its not like that at all. Concept and personal process is very important
Laura Rose you say that like she's not a fashion major lol her work is going to look like an editorial peice
Hey we have the same name
Well then u shld look at the education system in asia. It doesnt get any worse ;)
Yeah, it’s just you.
lol all the "bragging" comments need 2 chill, i'm just telling u my story (aka true facts) in the hopes u guys find it helpful or entertaining
Ella Snyder hey you work your ass off you get to brag a little
Art is about sharing your creative expression, and there is nothing wrong with stating that people reacted well to it. Anyone who says you are bragging needs to focus on their own life. Maybe they need to find something they enjoy doing rather than putting you down.
Was researching Duchamp for an art history paper I have, and stumbled onto this video! You are so talented, man!! Keep it up! It's rare to find a talented artist at such a young age. You're not only beautiful yourself, but you have a keen eye for beauty in the outside world. Just thought I'd throw some compliments your way (PS what's your instagram I'd love to keep up with what you're showing the world)
Honestly: I'm jealous as shit of ur talent and how smart you are
Okay, so when I hear NHS I like had war flash backs (That was a joke). NHS for me was a complete waste of my time and I was forced to join because of my mother after throwing away three years of letters begging me to join. I was forced to join at the end of my junior year so I technically became an official member my senior year. Unfortunately instead of tearing up the letters then throwing them away right after receiving them I put it into my bag because i was busy doing something in class at the time. My mom then got mad after I told her I've gotten about two every year, but just thrown them away. Tried to explain I'd be a waste of the already little time I have because of the responsibilities to which I still have today. I hate even admitting I was apart of that organization. Honestly I feel it had no impact in college applications or in my life. Everything they promised to help with was an empty lie and I honestly just wish i wouldn't have joined. I graduated with around a 4.28 and ranked 5/313 senior students, all of which I did with the help of my amazing teachers not this organization. (I never actually got to see my final transcript which made me kinda sad). Sorry that was my little rant about NHS!
Artist tip: when asked about a piece you created... just bullshit the shit out of your explanation.
Yes, I noticed this 2 weeks into college and it has helped so much
im in med school why am i watching this 😂
Riham Ennceiri same, lmao. i love art tho, you?
fá yes of course 😉
I'm in a PhD program and I still watch people getting accepted to colleges haha :D
engineering here, and have been watching so many art portfolio videos lol
you must know the art,you are graphic digital 3d works about inner body system of anotomy!!
I'm absolutely amused by all of your talent. I'm 14 years old and well you're such an inspiration to me. Thank you for all of these tips that I will use in the future. If I do ever get into a great college like you, I will thank you
I think you mean amazed
coconut head no she means amused. amused, provide interesting and enjoyable occupation for
coconut head you guys better expand your vocabulary 😂
coconut head ayoo tho army🙌🏻
Vincent Nathaniel Oliver Still a very odd and not quite suitable word to use in this context
also I had fee waivers for all the common app applications which was like 19 of the schools so chill out with the "she dropped 1k on applications" comments :-)
Ella Snyder you have a reason to be proud of yourself! I know it's all we're seeing but don't pay attention to the negative comments, these people are just jealous. You seem like a hard worker, and you're very talented and creative. Everyone should just be happy for you
don’t they only give 4 fee waivers?
is no one going to mention that at 13:40 that’s hunter schafer
YEAH RIGHT I KNOW
I was thinking the same thingggg
I SWEARRRRRR I KNEW ITT!!
i was looking for this comment i was like wait???
Ella came out as trans, she wasn't out at this time but I'm happy to know she had people with similar experiences to talk to.
the picture of your friend in the dri-fit pants reminds me of a page from frank ocean's 'boys don't cry' magazine
we're only allowed to apply to 5 schools in the UK, you get accepted or declined depending on your predicted grades and then you have to choose 2 from the ones that accepted you :( I didn't know what i wanted to do or where i want to go either so i had to just choose 5 random cities i might want to live in that had good unis and i think i regret some of the choices i've made but we'll see when it comes to results day in august
Bella Granger it's different if your doing art though! if you're applying to do art foundation you can apply to as many as you wish!
fiona oh wow really? I never knew that! shame I'm no good at art :( is there a difference between art and other subjects in the US do you know?
Bella Granger I'm not really sure how the US system works cause I live in the UK! but I assume the process is quite similar in that you have to get certain grades, I only really know that in art in most places around the world it's not really based on your grade but the portfolio of work you bring! x
fiona ah okay well thanks for the reply, you have enlightened me :)
my friend applied for an art foundation and usually the ask for a minimum C grade in the subject you are applying for/an art subject so if you want to do graphic design they ask for C in graphics a level as well as an interview and portfolio. IF you don't get good grades but have a gr8 portfolio (from personal outside work) they can still accept you
it’s really awesome how confident and positive you are about your art! it’s refreshing to see someone who doesn’t constantly bring themselves down but know how good they are instead :))
Wow i went to school with her, one class behind me.. good shit
tiraluvr941 yooooooo
can I ask when you started putting together your portfolio? I'm gonna be a sophomore but I want to see if I can start putting one together soon
omg Parsons!!! It's my dream school!!! Girl you gotta get into this school!
23 schools holy crap my brother only applied to 4 (he got into all 4 tho)
maybe marissa yeah 4 seems good enough to me & i like ur avi lol
i only applied to 2 lol, 2/2
love the icon
the way you talk about photography makes me think you don't shoot in manual.
I love how passionate you are about art in general :) this shows how this is totally your direction to go to in life
Omg girl ur killing me talking about ur average scores 😫 I thought mine was decent
her scores are average but 4.47 GPA is fucking insane my school didn't even have enough AP courses to make that
Only our valedictorian has a weighted GPA that high... so thats kinda crazy, and our school district is pretty inflated as it is, can't imagine what people's GPAs at her school is like LOL (and 1000 is average for SAT scores out of 1600, 1300 is on the smart kid side and 1400 is basically ivy league)
horseandogs wow really? Idk if that's a good or bad thing, but my valedictorian had a 5.something
You can't have a 5 something. A five would be all As and you only took AP courses in your entire high school career, which I don't think is possible. Most schools don't have that many courses and only AP courses wouldn't meet high school requirements. Like my school required you to take math every year, but they only have two levels of AP math credits to my knowledge.
holypicklesmofo nope, it's possible. look it up.
rewatching this and spotting hunter is WILD
you're so talented and beautiful and i'm so excited to see what you achieve in the future! please post more of your work, i can't even describe how these pieces make me feel, and they inspire me so much. best of luck on your new journey.
You have synesthesia- when you say that the photo feels like velvet- it's kind of a crossing of senses and any can be crossed- I sometimes taste things when I listen to music
wut, I can smell specific stuff when i hear certain music. It's like every music has it's smells. Is it the same thing or am I just really weird?
Carmo Marcelino it is a synesthesia
I feel like everyone must have some type of synthesia right? Like, I dunno, I can't imagine things like certain songs and music without a specific color that goes to them.
You say that but everyone feels that way
hello she doesnt have synesthesia lmao . im diagnosed with synesthesia and its much more complex than that. please stop making people think they have something just because they can slightly relate to it :)
Omg I'm gonna be attending Parsons this fall too! Hopefully I'll see you around, love your art work btw!
Scarlet Li omg! let be friends!
Haha yesss I would love to!
I am also attending parsons this fall!
wow! I wish I was talented!!
im so excited for you and to start this new chapter of your life! you are so talented ella, im in love with your art. you are going to do magnificent things in the future, ive been watching you for about one and a half years now and its so amazing to see your growth. wishing you all the best! x
Congrats on finishing apps and getting into school! This is such a great inspirational video for those who are looking to start their education in art :) Your portfolio is really fantastic and I cant wait to see what you do at school and beyond!
I'm having a struggle returning into art for this past year and next year I need to show my final project in art. This video have me so much inspiration especially the first few art pieces wow, thank you for sharing you are amazingly talented :)
i don't get the pieces? they look basic.
It's art school, it's not really about the work, it's how you can "talk it up"
6:52 - You said you wanted to prove that you could draw but there are a lot of beginner mistakes in here that they probably would have picked up on; your photos are amazing but having the basic knowledge of the fundamentals of drawings is really important too
oops! i'll definitely work on improving at parsons
Could you please show an example? Because i think she knows a lot about vomposition and texture. Do you mean that it wasn't realistic enough?
the hair for instance looks wiry because there's no concept of blocking in forms, lots of strokes esp on the body that are unnecessary yet lack true dark areas so the piece overall looks finicky and without contrast. She's talented but it's a pretty common problem with people in her age group. Basically getting too caught up in the details from photo reference and not being able to step back and finding blocks of value that would have brought the piece good form and a sense of space.
Marina Richmond I agree with you on that. I just think she is good at drawing and shows that she can do it. Everybody can improve :)
Wth are you talking about schools don't expect you to draw like a 100% trained artist, what they're looking for mainly is some passion, life force, something different
i'm a pornstar why am i watching this 😂😂😂😂😂
Jare Bak I-
The photograph at 12:56 is really incredible, definitely my taste. Super good job on that one! What camera did you take it on? Almost has a Chris Killip style but in colour.
Wow I love your work and how you explain everything! I'm going to vcuarts this fall for photography and I could not be more excited 🙌🏼 I hope to see vlogs / videos showing what you're working on while at college!
Hi Ella! Your portfolio is sooo cool! I really loved every single photo of it! I'm really into photography as well and I would love to know which camera and lenses you use to shoot!! Thxx :)
I found this super helpful. I'm not sure what I want to go to school for but I do love photography and this video made me want to start working on a portfolio, so thank you! lol. Love your work!
this video told me to get off my ass and actually have a productive high school experience i appreciate this and i know i'm late but congrats you are very talented and smart i aspire!!!
I have always wanted to go to art school, I would always tell everyone that I wanted to be an engineer or possibly go to medical school but secretly I would have loved to go to art school and dreamed about what it would be like. I ended up going to college for computer science (in my 3rd year now) and I still think about what my life would be like if I actually followed my dreams. I am happy where I am and do pursue art on the side. It's so nice to see people follow their passions and run with it with such determination. Good for you and I hope your dreams take you far Ella!
your photos are amazing, do you need an expensive camera to have a professional feel to it? and do you need Photoshop?
I am in science at uni (Life science and technology), but I also love photography ( in my spare time). It was very interesting to see your work. It's beautiful. Just a little tip: I would get a sketch book and work on your anatomy skills for drawing and learning to sketch real quick and out of your head. I think it would help you so much in art school
Congrats!!!!🎉 Your photography is amazing and you're literally so talented!❤
Leyla P Yes, exactly, education should be free and for everyone. Especially middle school and high school but also college.
I just feel so inspired after watching this video, you are so incredible. i'm obsessed with your art. thank you for sharing this !! 💛
I don't know if you said this but what's your major gonna be?
Extra bonus of being in NYC is the under-utilised UA-cam Space there (they don't have enough people going in to use it), hope you have fun and congrats on getting into Parsons!
This video really inspired me to keep pursuing art while I'm in highschool. Also, I was wondering where you can buy those gels to alter the colour of the lights?
She talks like she's always questioning and in doubt with what she's saying. Is that an accent?
FritzPunks Kuris Kuris I'd say it's a measure of stage fright. She's confident about what she's saying, but not in front of the camera. You can tell if you watch her hands, she's very expressive. But if you watch her shoulders and her eye movement/her hands grabbing her arms, a few times she breathes out like she's been holding her breath. She's saying she isn't comfortable being seen/doesn't know how to deal with the lack of a real life audience in front of her, but she does want to show what she can do. This is her being brave in order to prove something to herself.
Google “uptalk”
It could be indicative of where she’s from, lack of confidence, or to (subconsciously) indicate that the speaker is not finished speaking in order to avoid interruptions.
y’all chill she’s prob just using her polite voice for the camera it’s not that deep
Your artwork is an absolute breath of fresh air! They're gorgeous.
Your art is amazing, i love it omg! Where did you get those things for the lights? I've been trying to find ways to decorate my wall without actually attaching anything to it and they looked so cool in your pictures.
is that Hunter Schafer on 13:51???
Anyways
Thank you for the video! Your works are very beautiful
what camera do you use to film?
canon 6d :-)
Good luck in design school! Stumbled upon this and after 2 years at an art/design school, I wish you nothing but the best of luck! Best choice I could have made for myself was choosing a life of creativity
this was super helpful!!! im taking my entrance exam for art school in a couple of weeks and this gave me a gist as to what to talk about and how to sound. thank you
It is a great entry into art school portfolio. I hope that you show us your upon graduation from art school portfolio. You will be amazed by how much your work changes during this process. I'm so excited for you. Art school rocks. Being in an atmosphere of creatives is like heaven. Have a great time.
All very cool photos. I love the shower one too, I noticed the eye was the only thing in focus
When you said you got an average score of 1300 on the SAT and I could only manage an 1150 after taking it 5 times. LOL I suck
Lauren Reynolds hahah me too man it's ok
1160 is still 75th percentile :)
i love the way you talk about your art it's so inspiring
Absolutely gorgeous! Hope you don’t mind me asking, but what camera(s) do you use?
Hi! i have some doubts: all the pics and the draws that you put in the portfolio have to focuse on the same topic? For example, i believed that the portfolio should be focuse on one topic instead of putting photos with different meanings.
I have art ptsd I used to be so passionate and now I get anxious and nervous I guess anytime art comes up, idk I sort of hate it at this point (I just had to tell someone sryyy )
Aww I feel for you. Did you go to art school or anything that might have killed the joy? Nothing against school, but I just graduated film school and my inspiration to create was replaced by anxiety over creating. Whatever the reason, I hope you recover your love for art, or at least don't feel nervous/anxious whenever it's brought up.
+PirateonFleetStreet awh thank you so much that means so much to me
Love Alfaro I think it's the pressure u put on yourself to be good, to creat something great....I totally understand..prob why I never attempt it anymore. Bless u and your honesty, I thought I was only one
J Gildz I'm sorry for you but glad to hear I have someone out there with the same feelings as me
I. Want. To. Do. Art.
But I go to school in a little country town in fricken south Australia. I know people say possibilities are endless and nothing is impossible but girrrrrrrlllll
Cindy Victoria, excited to see a comment from another South Australian! I go to CDW studios in Adelaide, if your willing to move to town I think it’s the best school; you can be a private student or complete a creative arts degree via Flinders uni and it’s super focused on practical art skills.
im from QLD lol but sis just go with ur heart. dont give up on finding the best school for you! you may have to move states if you cant find a school that suits you in your state
Hey Ella, thinking of applying to parsons and just wanted to know if they wanted you to send in an ACT? I read that they didn't actually need it but I just wanted to make sure.
these are all amazing! getting so much inspo from your photography
WHAT camera did you use to to take the photos? thanks.
Britney Summers she used canon 6d
wow, you have some amazing work(: you have a beautiful eye , dont ever stop creating art !
this is so fun to watch, because.. I do a film & photography education programme and it's been 3 years ago I've been accepted, now I need to go through all of it next year again for a higher eduction programme level, but this video reminds and makes me realize that I really should get my sh*t together and be even more creative! Thanks :D
This video has been so helpful! Your photographic pieces are very nice
your portfolio is honestly amazing, I wanna hang all those pics in my room
Lost my love for photography ATM when it was what I lived for. I took photos to show my life outside to my bed ridden mum. But my teachers are stressing me over doing more editorial shoots with strict time limits and insulting me if he isn't happy, doesn't agree with my choices or if my things aren't in front of schedule. I have a chance coming up to take photos of a local court house being build and my photo would be hung there and become local history. I'm better at shooting outside not in a studio. But he isn't letting me saying others would be better off just because they are better at shooting in a studio. Your photos have given me a little more passion back in photography especially the one involving the shadow over the girls face on the ground. I want my passion back but when teachers are against you it's difficult
I love this video and your art! Also this is random but your background is super aestethically pleasing
I really love the photo in the thumbnail. I'm not sure why, but it just seems so serene.
your art is amazing!! x
What camera does she use to take these photos?
canon 6d
her iphone
Please tell what kind of camera you used to shoot the photos in your portfolio xx. Great video! It was so helpful❤️
Hey! I was just wondering how you made/formed the wax bust and how you managed to get it so detailed. I am doing something similar for a part of my HSC art piece and at the moment I'm having trouble with getting it to look lifelike, did you mould the materials around yourself or did you make a cast beforehand and then add the wax? If anyone else knows how you could do this please let me know!
YOURE SUCH AN INSPIRATION WOOOOOO
Thank you a lot for showing your portfolio! Finally, someone who is not only drawing and painting. I love your variety of material like making a sculpture and an installation. In my opinion, portfolios on youtube are too dominated by drawings and paintings.
Your photography is stunning! Good luck on your art and life! ♡
xx
omg you're too incredible. definition of a hard worker!!! PS. Your makeup is so pretty!
I did only apply to 4 universities here in germany, because you don't just have to show a portfolio but also have to do homeworks that take weeks to complete for every one of them. Also I am not even finished with high school right now, so it is especially stressfull. And I am kind of jealous you handled 23 applications. Wish it wouldn't be that stressfull...
How do you feel about using photoshop for photos? Do you ever not use it for some photos or do you feel you should use it for all photos as a default?
I absolutely LOVED the wax sculpture!! I’m just a sophomore living in Texas with a (P)SAT score of 1090 😭 I have time to get my score up, and hopefully be in a better nationwide percentile, because Parsons is my dream school. You’re very inspirational and I hope I can get in 🖤
omg i was stuck between mica saic and parsons and honestly thought that i was gonna go to parsons until the last 10 mins of committing to saic! Haha damn it couldve seen u around school 😤 but congratss!!!! LOVE all your works
For the third photo I completely agree with you. You literally put my thoughts into words.
Hey! I don't know what all the negative comments are about but I have to say I loved almost everything you showed and I strongly believe you'll get a special place amongst all famous artists
omg this is amazing ! ive always loved photography 😀 but now im gonna push foward towards it .
my mom went to parsons and absolutely loved it! you're going to be so content!
I’m obsessed with you !!!
Congrats on getting accepted!! Your artwork is absolutely amazing! xx
Hi! ❤️ What camera did you use to take the photos in your portfolio? You're so talented and photos are gorgeous
Is it just me, or is the sooo basic?
Julianne Velasquez yuppp
Julianne Velasquez no
I love it
And I take inspiration from it fyi
So obsessed with your art. Can't stop staring at each piece. Your so talented ❤ going 2 parsons as well next year :)))
The bra idea was very good, I wish the texts would've been printed in them somehow. All the pieces are very good. Congratulations!
I am 16 and I am really interested in applying to art schools. I do have several pieces that I am proud of and I keep a sketch book all the time with me. The thing is I only have a 3.5 gpa which I don't think will be good enough for any decently good art school, I do many extra curricular activities but I am still really worried. Any tips??
Sarah Study 24/7 and don't sleep
I think your GPA will be fine. Each school looks for something slightly different but portfolio is really the most important thing.
The portfolio is sooooo important! I'm 16 as well and I am applying for a high school/college program for my senior year and I have a 20+ piece portfolio put together already. It takes time and dedication seriously
i know parsons requires a 3.4 gpa at least so i’m pretty sure you’ll be fine... art schools mostly look at portfolios
wow I remember one of your photos from the saic ecp show ! your work is amazing and i wish you the best !
Congrats 🍻 also what camera and lens are you using?? 😬
could you please do more videos on photography, like what camera you use and things like that x
she really gives me mandy from shameless vibes in the best way!! so gorgeous
I wish art in british curriculum was THAT easy.
I'm taking gcse art next year and shitting my pants because people last year were actually failing
just annotate and develop your work as much as possible and you should be good idk
gcse art is really easy if you can draw decently. I got an A in gcse because my skills were good, but now im AS/A level and its about a lot more than that. Its more important now to be able to experiment a shit load and develop an idea thoroughly.
You're seriously stunning and you make me want to chop my hair off, loved this especially since I'm into this kind of stuff. Thanks for the tips(:
Hi Ella, do you have the same portfolio for your UAL application? As I thought the requirement in the UK is different from the US
13:46, that’s literally HUNTER SCHAFFER like why can’t we talk about this....
Please show more of your photography work on this channel!
The last one is so GUCCI, grllll, amazing job.
I applied to to 3 college because I was dead set on getting into The Savannah College of Art and design and luckily I got in mainly because I had a really good portfolio and it also got me a scholarship. I got into two out of the 3 schools i applied for though but SCAD was my number one school so I'm happy I got in. Congrats to you though!!
I love your art! Do you have any tips for writing a solid artist statement? I'm joint majoring in history-cultural studies and have been taking film courses where I have to explain my work, but I just can't seem to express myself.
