Same! When I was young, poor and living in NYC, my parents sent me money to go to a Broadway play. I my mother was an English major and could not understand why I would choose to go to Franz Kafka’s “The Metamorphosis”, explained to her that the main character was played by Mikhaïl Baryshnikov, then she understood. . I did not meet him, but it was a small theater and he was no longer dancing at that time so was the only way to see him perform.

I worked at JC Penney years ago. Working by myself at night. I was busy get stock and sale stuff out home area. Said hi to man who came in and didn’t look at him. Told him if needed me to call out. He put all the stuff on the counter. When he was ready to check out I rang up the purchases...still not really looking at him. He gave me his credit card. I looked at the name an thought “great! Some idiot is trying to pass himself off as Chevy Chase!” I looked up with my “do I look stupid face.” It quickly changed to “oh crap.” It was Chevy Chase. He paid and left without either of acknowledging who he was. I figured he didn’t need it at 9:00 pm in a little town in Michigan. Hey Chevy it was nice to meet you if you ever see this. 😊

As a teenager in the 60’s in Southern California, I saw a lot of rock bands. My absolute fave-rave was Jefferson Airplane. Saw them twice. Once met Grace Slick outside one of the venues. Really interesting short conversation about music and the concert.
Flash forward to 2000. Shes having an art exhibit near my work. I went, was the only one there for my lunch hour. She was so gracious and interesting.

I worked for a major tv production company in the 90s as the corporate receptionist, so I was always the first to greet anyone who came in. Casting calls were the best. Took phone calls from Bea Arthur at least once a week. Brad Whitford and Jane Kaczmyrek (his then wife) used to hang out in my office when he had the baby with him because I kept stuffed animals in my office and she liked to play with them. Got yelled at over the phone by Peter Gallagher when the clips for the show he was promoting never made it to the Rosie O'Donnell show. Stood next to Brandy in the elevator--she told me she liked my hair. Had a great chat with Harvey Fierstein while he waited for a pitch meeting. Got to sit next to Dale Midkiff when there were no chairs left in my office so he leaned against the small filing cabinet behind me. Saw Ted Wass nearly every day (he was married to the president of the company and a director on some of the shows we produced). Melanie Griffith did a pilot for us-she was a basket case. Jill Clayburgh insulted my home town to my SIL (an executive producer on her show). Celebrated Millenial NY at Phil Rosenthal's house with the cast of Everybody Loves Raymond (he was the producer). Chatted with Faith Prince-what a sweetheart. Met Randy Quaid. Yes, he really is that crazy.
    My most memorable meetings:
Harry Anderson used to come into the used bookstore I worked in on Hollywood Blvd and hang out and chat with me
David Cassidy came into the office to meet with one of the producers. He came in and put out his hand and said "Hi, I'm David Cassidy." All I could think was, did you really think you needed to introduce yourself? Asked the producer's assistant for his autograph
Betty White co-starred in the Melanie Griffith pilot (obviously it was never picked up). On set during taping, I heard a voice behind me say "these fucking things take so god damned long" I turned and it was Betty. She turned to her (very) handsome co-star and said "comon Jeff. Let's go to my dressing room. You can feed me grapes." She was a great broad.
First year living in Hollywood I worked at a record store (remember those?) Superbowl Sunday after the game, the store was very busy. I was ringing up customers and not even looking up at them. One customer came up and tossed some cds on the counter. I pointed out that one of the more expensive ones was on sale in the used bin. He said no, that was ok. I was surprised and looked up at him.
    Brad Pitt.
He is actually more beautiful in person. Very nice too. He didn't mind at all when I forgot to demagnetize his cds and he set off the alarm, prompting security to come running.
    oy.

I was filling in at the reception desk at the Geffen Playhouse when I was very pregnant with my first child. David Hyde Pierce was rehearsing a show. As he left for the day, he came by the desk, put his hand on my shoulder, leaned in and said "You take good care". ❤️

Steve McQueen waved at me once. I (and 2 buddies) was driving up Baja California in 1969 (before the road was paved) in our battered Chevy pickup when a dune buggie roared by going down the road. We exchanged waves. When we got to the next oasis and were having a beer, the barkeep said "You shoulda been here last nite - Steve McQueen was in drinking with us." Oh gosh - can you imagine drinking with Steve McQ in Mexico? If we had only started up a day earlier . . .
    Timing is everything.

I work in the music industry , I've sat opposite Justin Timberlake and asked him who he was , I've called Lethal Bizzle..Mr Drizzle for 2 weeks before he corrected me whilst laughing hard , I've walked straight past ' The Edge ' and Bono without recognising them and ignored Ozzie Osborne completely
I also drove a tour for Tim Robins , no idea who he was until he told me , can't say I was any the wiser though , having never seen The Sureshank Redemption
I have a bit of a reputation in Europe for working in the industry for over 15 years but still don't listen to ' pop ' music and have no idea who these people are , and could care less 😁

In 2001 after a Megadeth concert at the London Astoria, my friend and me were headed towards the exit, when someone approached as from the side saying "I know that shirt" referring to the Motorhead shirt my bud was wearing. It was frigging Lemmy himself, hat and all, so my friend went nuts and immediately asked for a photo. I had one of those crappy pocket wind-up film cameras (yes millennials that's how we did it back then) and the thing jammed when I took the first picture. My friend nearly lost it and the warty one was half amused and half annoyed, luckily the second photo worked. "Ace" moment 🤘

Many years ago I had a doctors appointment at UCLA, Shelly Winters was in the waiting room and was working on a jig saw puzzle, hubby and I
talked about what the National Enquirer would probably say about her being there…..Shelly Winters losing it at UCLA medical center, mumbling that she can’t get the pieces to fit….. we actually didn’t speak to her though. We once saw John Boy Walton at LAX and we did say hello, I was pretty surprised to see that he wasn’t much taller than I am, and I’m 5’2”……and here’s my favorite celebrity encounter story, the night we saw John Boy at LAX we were telling an associate in a gift shop about seeing him and she told us this story, a young mom and her son were in the gift shop and Bob Hope was there as well, he got a magazine, paid for it, folded it and tucked it under his arm and walked into the men’s room, the little boy keeps trying to get his moms attention, patting her on the arm and saying mom, Bob Hope, she said I know, but mom, Bob Hope, again she gently shushed him, and so he said mom, Bob Hope uses the bathroom too………..

My first husband lived next door to Jason Donovan and due to the area he lived, saw Freddy Mercury, George Best, and others. By all accounts they were lovely people. He even found an unwritten check from coutts bank (one the queen uses) under the names of Brian May and Anita Dobson.
