Congratulations on your new first house! I am watching this video in June, 2024 but found your wonderful channel in 2019. That, according to my DIY file on my laptop. It makes me happy to see someone succeed in a "hobby" turned "business". You are a really good teacher. I hope you have many happy years in your new home and BRAVA, BRAVA, BRAVA.
You are so right about top coating table tops and a few other pieces as well. I wouldn't have just wax alone on my furniture with children and animals by no means, but i do love the wax for small projects.
I just know for me after putting in hours and hours into restoring a piece of furniture and making it pretty I want to protect all that hard work with the most appropriate topcoat.
Love watching your video's. i have a piece I painted with a white latex. I was going to use the Clear Annie Sloan wax but may consider this wax. I want it to remain white though, will this clear wax give it more of an antique look?
I'm doing cabinets in chalk paint. I've already started 🥺. And I guess I didn't read enough you tube tutorials. After watching this one thinking I made the wrong choice. I liked the idea of chalk paint because it didn't require lots of sanding/prep work & wax as the finish. But I did think 🤔 how can that stand up against a kitchen with kids that are really messy. I don't know where I'm going with this because I don't think I will turn back now. Well thank you for your buffing pad info, I was trying to find someone who mentions a particular product & explains why they like it. So I've ordered the buffing pads. I already put two coats of wax following a Annie Sloan tutorial before I buff. On another part of my cabinets I think I'm going to try the wax you mentioned here. I actually used behr wax because I used behr chalk paint, most convenient & they had so many colors that already matched my Behr wall paint. Wish me luck. I will be watching more of your videos.
Painting kitchen cabinets is quite the undertaking. Bravo to you for giving it a go. My two cents: I would have gone with an enamel paint because it has a topcoat built in and I've read great success with it holding up over time. Chalk paint is fine too but you really need to prep correctly in order for the paint to adhere correctly. I know many fancy chalk paint companies market that their paint requires no prep. It's hogwash. Trust me. It's just to sell paint. No such thing as not prepping. Kitchen cabinets need to be deep cleaned, sanded, primed and then painted. If someone paints with chalk paint I would advise a water based topcoat like Polycrylic or General Finishes High Performance. Wax is okay but will show finger prints and due to the heat in a kitchen will need to be reapplied often. I'm curious how your project has turned out. Again I commend you for taking on such a big project. Painting kitchen cabinets is a lot of work.
I am going to paint a desk also. What black chalk paint did you use. I am going to order this new wax you are using. I have used another brand over black and was disappointed with the results. Thank you for your videos and great teaching you provide.
If you are going to paint a piece black definitely get a dark wax either their brown wax or the espresso wax. I love the Maison Blanche line of products. They have a black paint as well(I haven’t tried the shade yet.) This particular desk I used Rebel by Junk Gypsy. It’s a true black. Doesn’t have a blue hue or a gray hue. It’s a true jet black.
I am working on a white satin painted curio cabinet. I would like your opinion of what color wax to use to finish it with an antique look. Please and thank you.
It’s insanely easy to apply this wax. That’s why I switched brands. When it goes on it’s super shiny but when it dries and you buff it it’s more of a satin sheen. I won’t be applying Polycrylic.
The top of the desk I’ll be staining a dark stain and using an oil based polyurethane. I’ll post photos on my Facebook Business page. You can find me at: Madeline Jean Antiques & Restoration. I’ll also post pictures on my Instagram account at: Bethany.Youssef
So I just waxed a vanity that I painted and I did not do it the way you showed! I should have done better research. It’s streaky... will it buff off so I can start over? And should I not wax the top? It is duck egg color.
If the wax is streaky you have applied too much wax. Keep buffing and it should buff clearer. Did you paint the top? You can either use wax or apply a tougher topcoat like Polycrylic. It all depends how much use and abuse the top is going to get.
Educate me here.... isn't the idea of using chalk paint to have that chalky appearance? Would an enamel flat paint that is distressed have a similar result as waxing chalk paint?
Enamel paint is usually an oil based paint because it has a hardener built in, a topcoat of some sort. It's not flat usually. It has a sheen to it. It's very hard to distress. I've tried.
I do spray flat enamels for various things. But that it would be hard to distress makes perfect sense. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experiences! (Long day in the shop. Redundancies abound.)

Great video, Thanks for sharing very informative video. Beautiful work on the desk.
Thank you and thank you for watching! I can’t wait to take photos of the desk all put back together.
Keep doing what you’re doing!
Absolutely! 😊
Great job on the desk your videos are so inspiring
Thank you! Thank you! Love hearing that my videos are inspiring. 😊
Gorgeous piece!
Thank you so much!

No this clear wax will not give an antique look. Your paint will remain white.

I love using the foam pads you were talking about. Do you clean them or do you store them in something?
I do not clean them. I can get a good 3-4 months out of them.

Aww your chi looks like my chi. 😍
What’s your chi’s name? We only have one but I want another one.
Looks so easy & beautiful! Very rich shine! Would you use polycrylic for your top coat bc it’s not as shining?

I don’t see the link for the foam buffers
Go under the video description...click on SHOW MORE...the link to the yellow foam buffers is there.
