  • One of the things that I needed to finish up on the WideFox project was to reseal the quarter windows. The seals were the original from 1980. When took the window trim out last year to wrap the trim in 3M carbon fiber Di-Noc vinyl, I disturbed the butyl sealing the window. It's finally time to get that fixed.
One of the questions I see is how to remove the trim without breaking it. I do explain that in the video, so be sure to look for that about half way through.
The materials I use in the video for the trim pry bar, the 3M window buytl sealer, etc. are all in the Amazon store. It's pretty reasonable, so I'd check it out if you need anything before you start your project.

these windows are installed from inside out?
and the 87 plus are installed outside in sealed?
can I use silicone rtv (right stuff) or should i be looking urethane or the 3m window weld? some reason im leaning away from the butlye tape..
i need to reseal my 87+ windows on my 82 GT

The 79-86 windows are held from the inside with metal brackets and use 3M rope butyl to seal. The 87-93 go on from the outside with studs through the body and nuts on the inside. They also use 3M rope butyl to seal.
You can use silicone or urethane, but if they have to come off you will have to try and cut the urethane like a windshield. It's very difficult to do, and you can crack the window in the process. I always recommend rope butyl over urethane on these windows.

@@BasinMotorsports thank you! I'm considering using 3m window weld in a caulking tube- also sold in a ribbon roll.
Was also thinking about trying the "right stuff rtv"
However I'm worried the 3m window weld in the caulk tube might more like urethane sealer and might have to be cut later down the road if all goes south.. really don't want to cause a broken window as you mentioned..
I've got an "82 gt" with the 87+ windows so I'm really not sure what I'm getting into haha
      appreciate your respone!

The conversion is pretty easy with the extra parts for the 87+ windows. I personally like the rope butyl as it's easy to use without making a big mess. It's the same stuff as the taillights too.
