after months of darkness you finally awaken, rolling over & tugging slightly at the iv tube you find attached to your arm. to your right is a dimly lit corridor, pale white lights creeping through the doorway and under the thin blue curtain pulled over beside you to your left, the full moon glows brightly in the distance, so far yet so large like you could reach out and touch it - if your weak arms could lift high enough the lights of the city below wash away the stars, dedicating the dark blue canvas of the sky to the warm yellow subject taking all of your focus. could you bring your eyes away from the magnificent sight before you, you might notice the jarring beeps of the monitor behind you, or the nurses attending beside you, the tired & weary looks in their eyes juxtaposing the frantic attempts to save you. head still turned up almost expectantly to the sky, the rest of your body slumps forward. as the object of your fascination falls out of view behind the window frame, you feel hands trying to lift you, trying to save you, trying anything they can. but they're too late; the sky has already taken you in and you feel yourself drifting off again, this time to a more peaceful place - etched among the stars
