  • A solar cooker is a device which is used to cook food directly under sun light without using Gas, LPG or electricity. It's a clean process of outdoor cooking. There are two types of cooker, box type and parabolic type. The later one is more efficient.
We make our own solar cooker out of a cardboard box of 235mm x 235mm x 140mm in size. We used five pieces of thermocol inside the box as insulator as show in the video. Sizes were, 230mm x230mm x30mm one pieces, 200x110x10mm two pieces and 225x110x10mm two pieces. For top we have used a 4mm thick glass of 230mm x 230mm. The reflector on top of the box was 470mmx235mm big.

I live in Arizona and lost half of my electricity back on May 8 at the RV Park where I live year round. Of course my ac went out but also my stove. I borrowed a slow cooker from a friend but now I can probably return it to her. I’m going to make this solar cooker and use it for free! No electricity needed!!!

Very good video . It might also help if river sand is filled in an insulated metal box and allowed to be heated up by solar power for several days. This stored heat can be used to cook quickly by keeping the cooker in a suitable niche made of matt black painted copper lining kept in contact with the hot sand. Toasting or roasting can be done by having another device filled with hot sand. Frying too could be done by suitable arrangement.

I didn't dislike the video because it's still an interesting experiment realized in a cheap and simple way that anybody can do at home following this video, but I guess people disliked it because using styrofoam as insulation is a very bad idea.
When heated or coming in contact with hot material it will release styrene and benzene in gas form, which are known carcinogenic substances and of course can leach into the food, so using common styrofoam as insulation for an oven is a very bad idea. Don't do it, if you want to go really cheap with insulation that anybody can find at home without buying anything expensive use shredded parer or layers of cardboad.
