I love your teaching style. Step by step and easy to follow. You should do a follow up video showing slightly (and I mean SLIGHTLY) more complicated roofs. Maybe where two gable roofs intersect, or a gable roof in one area and a shed roof in another. Keep this up! You're a wonderful teacher!
Great suggestion! You sound like you have something specific in mind and real world project related! Well guess what...I'm opening a Revit course that is exactly what I wish was available to me when I first started in this field. Subscribe and you'll know more within the next week!
@@SmarterArchitect oh, I subscribed immediately. This video was an excellent introduction to roofs. Now I'm ready for chapter two. Looking forward to more videos.
Thank you, that was brilliant, have been working my way through Revit and just could not figure out how the roof tool worked, even from the Autodesk tutorial, and you made it really simple and clear.
+Percyflag The goal of the Smarter Architect content is to keep it as simple as possible and break it down as much as possible. Thanks for watching and make sure you subscribe!
Ria Wallace I'm glad these videos have been helpful! The information on this channel includes clips from tutorials created for my courses. Don't miss out on the SmarterArchitect online course coming very soon!
Speak up and turn down the mouse click. I'm going insane over here, but this is actually helpful so I'm forced to crank up the volume to hear you but forced to also hear the most annoyingly loud mouse click.
Remember the fundamentals never get dated but there will be some new Autodesk software tips coming soon too! Stay tuned...hint: I've been playing drones and VR googles in my architectural projects over the year 😎. Excited to share the experiences
awesome tutorial it took me a month to comprihend revit thanks to archicad im an archicad and auto cad user but looks like im parting with archicad does the same thing as revit tho ,tho auto desk is guru ..
ArchiCAD and Revit are both great BIM software packages with slightly different benefits - but I know Revit is much more widely used in the United States especially.
It is not giving in revit the lower level notice in the very beginning of the video (1:24) and is then creating it as a floor... i literally follow step by step... any advice?
+Kellie C No problem. Sounds like your project template did not include 2 levels to start. So first open any Elevation view and click the Architectural tab and on the Datum panel on the far right of the screen....click Level and and add a new level to the project. Make sure you set the elevation to be higher than Level 1. All other steps will be the same for you. Thanks for watching Kellie.
+Kellie C Sure! Open up the project template file wherever it is currently pathed on your C: drive and add an additional level, save and close it. Then every new project started with that template file moving forward will have 2 levels. Pretty easy, right? Hope this helps
When I select Roof by Footprint, it doesn't ask me to move to a different level. So I manually chance my Base Level in Properties to Level 2. The issue I am experiencing is that using a Basic Generic 300mm Roof, I am unable to access the Slope in Properties and change it to a 8:12 Ratio. Any solution to this?
When I begin to add the roof (1:22), my Revit doesn't ask to create a new level 2 and I'm unable to create a new home in the home tab. Can you please help with any advice as to what may be going wrong? Great tutorial by the way. I able to create the roof. The problem is it's on the same level 1 as the walls infrastructure. Thanks.
Check out the video response I posted here: Revit Tutorials: Roofs Tutorial (Video Response) It should address your questions. Thanks for visiting Smarter Architect.
I have a question, no matter what video I watch, your video has actually been the most helpful, but my roof still ends up on the ground! How can I stop that? I'm using 2020 btw.
Great! Thank you so much. Quick question, is there a way, for my context buildings, to shape the roof in a conceptual mass family? I extruded all the surrounding buildings and now I'd like to give them a roof shape (so split in the middle and extend it up kinda...). Adding edge tool doesn't work on top surfaces and the only way I found until now is to create two masses next to each other, make the adjacent edges higher and then joining the masses. But it's a lot of work. How would you approach the context roofs? Cheers
Hello I want to ask about created gable roof. normally when we give angle dimension, roof will automatically slope created. may i want to create flat on top of gable roof? thank you
Hi, I was doing really well with this until you said to deselect the walls on the second roof design. But because you didn't show how to deselect the wall, I couldn't follow any further. :(
If you need more detailed step-by-step direction, consider my upcoming course but I'm sorry it will be limited to less than 1% of my community so watch out and sign up when it's advertised!
Brad, Thanks for watching! Great question. I created a quick video tutorial to demonstrate the answer here: Revit Roof Tutorial - Revit Curved Roof Shoot me another msg or like the video so I know your question is answered. In 2014, I am priding myself on responding to the SmarterArchitect community.
That is not what I am trying to accomplish. I am trying to add a shed roof to a building that is in the shape of a semi circle. So far I am able to add one curve, but revit doesn't like it when I add a second curve. Can I still use the roof command or should I just go into the massing tool?
Absolutely, I just shared one more video tutorial hopefully addressing your issue: Revit Roof Tutorial - Creating A Shed Revit Curved Roof If not Brad, do me a favor and e-mail me a picture of your work in progress or a sketch if you can at jonathan@smarterarchitect.com There is so much Revit can do and I hope you'll consider taking my online course- coming soon!
Thanks for all. Now I know how to make generic roof, but after making generic roof on framed walls, I can't seem to putt up the ungabled ends of the wall to the roof. OTOH if I was to wait to use the framing add on after making the roof I get an error. got any suggestions. Revit city doesn't seem to be a help.
Remember to use the attach walls to roof command which will show up once you select the walls in the conceptual ribbon. Do you see it? If you are doing it properly, it will take seconds.
problem is that I had converted my walls to a framing after making generic walls with framing extension. The way that the building I am trying to model is made . It isn't how revit wants to frame it. My building has walls that are framed all straight with 2 sills going along the top and on the gable ends it has these rafters with cripple studs on top of those sills.
Deselect press escape a few times or in the top left is a button with an atole pointer similar to a computer mouse point if you click that deselected out of a command too
bigcartoonyIIV Just change the graphic design option from hidden line to shaded, consistent color, or realistic! Hope this helps! There will be very limited seats available but consider taking the SmarterArchitect online course this Fall and you will take Revit to the next level for you!
Mei Li To build it in Revit....Think of it as 2 separate roof forms that you join together after modeling. Hope this helps you - and I'll put it on my list of video tutorials to do in the future. Thanks for stopping by.
Teo Jordan Check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/ZcM3xts2V_Y/v-deo.html There is also a short video on a curved shed roof if you search the SmarterArchitect youtube channel. Hope it helps.

Definitely the best Revit Tuts on You tube! Straight to the point, no fluff with the signature 'trigger like' sounding mouse clicks.
Wait until you see what is next from this UA-cam channel... let's just say I'm hype about it! Took a long time, but well worth it.
That's a great tutorial, step by step approach.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for your easy to follow videos, God Bless 😇💐
Glad you like them!

Thanks. You explain better than other videos.
Awesome! You should consider signing up for the Revit course Beta group that I will only have 18 slots in! Launching soon.
Thank u so much. Great video!
Thank you. Been trying to create a curved quonset-style curved roof (your fourth example) for a while. Now I know. Thanks!

What did you do at 4:47? "Deselect out of my sketch". Which button do you press to do that?
Very clear! Thank you so much

I have anyone else having trouble deselecting the lines when creating the gable roof? I am working with a Mac keyboard, could that be the problem?

how to get the basic roof panel mat with the lines. the roof gray that is in the example model for revit 2013.

Do you know how to do a butterfly roof in 2013 revit
Absolutely. We can actually use the roof by footprint tool in a creative way. Check it out here:

HOW DO YOU DE SELECT
Meer Said You hold down Ctrl + click the target with your cursor again.
lets hope it works thank you
informative. but you should speak faster
hehe, you're a fast learner. You can adjust the video speed tos 1.25 or higher
great tutorial, but please make your voice louder. clicking sound is irritating.
Pao Dacasin#LPFWLP_S UA-cam does not allow video editing or it would be done. Best I could do was add a link to the re-made video in the description.
Sorry, I'm going to different tutorial because your mouse click is insanely loud
