A wonderful tutorial, THANK YOU, Karen Ann Hitt! As for the discussion of detoxifying your studio (ca.32:30), I heartily recommend THE NEW OIL PAINTING -- Your Essential Guide to Materials and Safe Practices by Kimberly Brooks. She and Amery Bohling gave me the priceless, non-toxic tip about using oil (plus clove oil if you like -- I DO) as a brush cleaner. Solvents are in no way necessary in your studio and pls recall the original masters had no access to such things. Brooks's book explains in detail how to get back to those non-toxic basics. Cheers!

Thanks for sharing that. YES- whole heartedly agree, as much non-toxic materials as possible. Walnut oil is also an awesome way of cleaning brushes. So many natural ways of painting. Good to always share them all!

Thanks so much Eric and Linda. I'm in SW Florida. Grew up in the 50s til 1980 in Miami. I spend many hours a week studying clouds. I've never painted a cloud. But now I feel more ready!!

Good one, if you are a "sky painter." But it's the number one reason most other paintings fail, because folks "over dramatized" a sky when it is not the intended focal point of the painting. It will cause the whole reason for the painting to "fall apart". However, if your intension is to have a very low horizon where nothing important is happening, go for the sky painting; it's a pretty simple painting really, just a big mass of wispy colors, no real focus, just an amorphous mass of vapor. It's almost a Bob Ross-ish thing in my view.
But having said that, here in AZ and HI you must paint skies; they are beyond spectacular, in fact I often look at a sky here and say, "I can't paint that it's not believable, no matter how much color I put into it. Cheers from southern AZ. LOL ;D

thanks for the comment Ron... not sure 'like' the Bob Ross part of it, but it did make me smile! This a last minute plan of a sharing of a demo on artschool live amidst of a construction zone. thanks for watching... the finished painting was just added to my website.

@@karenannhitt7276 Thanks, great respect for you folks doing stuff online, I could not, being a "recluse", and only comfortable in my studio or outdoors, Completely Alone, with my very best company, that being me, myself, and I. But that's true of all serious artists, right? Cheers, and as Bobby always said, ...may God Bless!! LOL ;D

Karen, Me Being a terrible photographer has held me back in my painting. After 20 year of relying on the phot skill of orhers i realize i need to aquire my own composition and photo knowledge.

She is very humble People putting their input in while im in the middle of a painting would have thrown me off from demo ever again. She is obviously brilliant and perfectly capable of straight lines but to stop everything to address that was disappointing. That and you really dont need to stop her valuable info to mention a helicopter sound and camera issues. But yeah just my little opinion.

demoing is way beyond my comfort zone, and a last minute plan while in the middle of a construction zone. The distractions a bit of an interruption and I learned lots of new myself doing this demo-- one its way crazy hard painting from the side of a painting. NOT recommended. giggle. In the end, with perseverance it all works out. just added the finished painting to my website.

You can go to your local drug store and look for "red lens" sunglasses; they are basically the same for only about 16 bucks. : )
