Of all the analyses I have read and heard about this song, yours is the one that comes closest to what I feel from this cry of the heart. On the ticket at the end, the inscription refers to the heart, (cordis in Latin) and so, yes, she has a chance to come back to him.. A really beautiful piece ! Thank you

They are celebrating their 20th year Anniversary this year. React to their current album 'Ghostlight' very 80/90s album is just very different to their earlier tune. 'Cor Cordis' in Latin means heart to heart.
POTF is one of my absolute favorite 'newer' bands!

I love Poets of the Fall. This is such a great song. His voice is unique, but it is similar to a Christian artist back in the 70’s….yes, the 70’s. His name was/is (he is still alive), Oden Fong. Anyone wants to check him out, (not for religious purposes, voice alone) I think you will see what I mean.

I've always like the interpretation of it being sung by a man who was in love and intimately involved with a married woman, who cannot deal with the guilt any longer and goes back to her husband, leaving her lover alone again.

I think you were right on the money on your analysis, but there is one step further: the performers themselves are also a part of this consuming world, and they bare their souls to exist for ever decreasing reward. That's why the carneval is rusting. In the end, the harlequin expels his last message: Cor Cordis, a soul for soul. Which in this video is: a coin. That's what his soul was worth. This whole song was for nothing more than coin. A powerful metaphor, right?
