Here is a preview of my BMW E36 Sim-Cockpit under construction with Beta Innovations Products.
I use a Plasma-Lite V2 with the NITRO Expansion Card (which will be replace by only New NITRO-XG USB soon).
Beta Innovations' products control the Real Car Instruments and the BMW OBC with the RSIM V2 Program.
Instruments tested in LiveForSpeed S2 Patch Z
Tachometer and Speedometer perfectly work.
Fuel Gauge, Water Temp and Oil Temp Gauges not connected yet.

All kind of aftermarket gauges and real car instruments can be controlled by Beta Innovations products.
It just must be electrical gauges (not with a cable to control speedometer and tachometer. Like very old cars)
As you can see on my "Third test" link I'm also used to control Renault Clio's instruments with BI's products.
It's only one USB controller which can control up to 8 after market gauges. You can really easilly control Speedo and Tacho. Fuel gauge and Water/Oil temp gauges on cluster may be a little harder to control.
It depends on how the original sensors work.

The car normally sends a value to the gauges from the ECU, with abit of coding you can fetch the values from the game and have them display on the gauges.

I use Beta Innovations' RSIM Software to read LFS' datas and to control the BMW cluster with Beta Innovations' cards.
You know what u could have kept the cockpit intact and drove the car in real life lol. Na it's an awesome set up you have. Wish I had the money to get that.
You need some 70" widescreen tv ! Awsome :)

This cluster comes from eBay. But I've also found a really nice one in a Junkyard indeed ;)
that's why i love a bmw .. it can bring you pleasure even on no GAS haha

My steering wheel works, it's a FrexGP SimWheel.
As the G25 is a good wheel, the G27 must be too ;)

The best cockpit to sit in is the cockpit of a E36
Press down on 1-9 quickly and randomly, you can make beats out of the engine noise xD
Why not connect the original steering wheel and steering column to the PC wheel at the back? that way you can use the original steering wheel in its original position
You need to turn the dashboard lights on
poor E36 M3 that ended up this way..
Maybe that car been after crash or been too rusty so him give a second life for parts from that car
You get those E36 parts, and even E36 M3 parts thrown after you. There is a gigantic stock of replacement parts, and then there is of couse tons of left overs from crashed cars, like Greg pointed out

They've probably been converted into USB instruments running on little motors or something. Then if the game has an API that allows access to the rpm and speedo info, it probably only takes a short code to have them reflected in the meters.

the signal cable that would normally be plugged into a car is converted into usb then using some software it inables it to work with games

@GotiKGotcha to my knowledge skyline cluster is electric cluster, just an idea atm but since i have a full calibrated 300kph cluster would be cool to make it into a dash

awesome, but u are using wrong FOV! try lower, something like 25 (120º)
Isn't the whole "real" dash thing a big waste of time and money when you already have an almost photo realistic inside view of the car you're driving?
For people who don't know how they did this the company is no longer in business for family reasons, but you can go to symprojects.com all the stuff is there to make this all work the same

He's referring to the assumption that the tacho is cable driven I think. But both are electronic on this vehicle. So Jesus to you ....
