Good afternoon, I love your channel it's very informative. I will be visiting next month and would like to know at this point where would be the best place to start looking for employment. I will be doing research on my own as well. I do have a full time job here in Texas but I would like to do something else. Any and all information will be helpful. Thank you.
Probably depends on the industry you are in. Local job boards in several media outlets - PostGazette, NextPittsburgh, Craigslist, Indeed, etc. Good luck.
@@markknowspittsburgh I currently live in Burton Michigan. The most I miss about Pittsburgh is so much to do and the people. I'm looking forward to coming back
Yes, there still remains a pretty active manufacturing sector. Oil and gas is also big. And the Shell Cracker Plant up in Monaca is going to to be hiring tons of people in the coming months/years.
You keep bringing up "old Pittsburgh". What I want to know is: How old are you? and where in Pittsburgh did you grow up in? I was born in 1962 at St Margret Hospital (Then in Lawrenceville) and grew up on the North Side, I have seen the evolution FIRST HAND. No one under 50 even remembers "old Pittsburgh" And when it's even brought up, our industrial past is only mentioned as something to be ashamed of And it's not been gone for "many decades" unless one counts FOUR as "MANY". But FFS (as the "kids" say). the whole God damned place would not EXIST without it. This is STILL a mechanical, hands-on, tactile city, THAT'S what makes it great. This is NOT Portland, Oregon or Austin, Texas despite whatever hipster temporary "fad" that hits here seems "cool".
I grew up in the 70s and 80s in the North Hills. My dad worked in the steel mills. Let me know if you want to buy or sell a house in the Pittsburgh area.
Yes, Heinz signed a 20 year deal for the naming rights of the Steelers stadium. But the Steelers were able to find someone (Acrisure) to pay over three times what Heinz was paying per year. Most Pittsburghers will continue to call it Heinz Field. As for the HJ Heinz Company, which is a division of the Kraft Heinz company (fifth largest food company in the world), they continue to be one of the top employers in the region.
LOL, Most of the sectors you covered are NO DIFFERENT from what would have been valid in 1922. Companies have changed but they are still in they SAME markets. Only "Medical" has increased, And even then it's not new. Pittsburgh has been a medical research hub since at least Jonas Salk in the '50s and the transplant center of the world in the '80s. The rest are all just shit Pittsburgh has always done.
