Abas Surprise bump to wrestle Guerrero

Eric Guerrero tells the story of when he wrestled Stephen Abas in a dual meet. The Oklahoma State wrestling team was wrestling two matches in central California in the same day. On the way to their second match at Fresno State the Oklahoma State team got lost and ended up showing up late to the match. Eric Guerrero didn't realize until the warm ups were going on that Stephen Abas was going to be moving up to wrestle him. Once he did realize that though, he immediately turned his mental state to where it needed to be. Eric Guerrero may not have had the idea trip to the venue, the idea warm up or mental preparation, but once he realized that he was going to be wrestling Stephen Abas he knew he had to get his head right and he ended up doing what it would take to overcome the circumstances and get the victory.

Stephen lost 4 to 3 and you know for sure Stephen was a great friend and a great match... he was one the best wrestlers in history as you are as well..

I remember in 1989 in Bakersfield CA Kids state Eric Guerrero had tears in his eyes because he did a five point sup on a kid and he gave the other wrestler a point( and he hadnt been scored on or whatever but he/they gave it to him) then in Santa Cruz State '92 he walked around with a shirt that said," THE BEST" on the front...its nice to see him humble...I got one hundred on" Aaron Picco"...plus Im trying to figure out why he didnt wrestle in the olympics .. ohh thats right..Stephan Abas( Jerrys little brother who got A SILVER MEDAL!!!!

I was there in attendance. tell me please that someone has footage of this match? I'm sure FSU and or Ok State has it. if so, can someone please upload it??? One of my regrets in life not to tape that match.

I was there also and eric makes it seem as an easy match . I don't recall the score but I remember it went to the wire. very very good and close match. I think eric at the end was stalling and fighting abas off , plus remember abas was from lower weight.
(does anyone have video of California high school state championship match between Darrell vazques of Bakersfield and palomino of san jose) palomino going for a 4time state title and Darrell was a junior going for third title. Vasquez WON and later became a 4time state champ. BEST HIGH SCHOOL MATCH I WATCHED IN PERSON.
