Just had my first experience with an older K1. Have been kayaking white water and sea since 86, gee the K1 is a completely different animal...

That looks vaguely similar to my memory of trying a K1.

so i do paddling, and that is a really tippy k1 to start with in the world of racing kayaks, i don’t think anyone can use it on their first try, from a sea kayak. that looks like something equal to a csepel, maybe try something less tippy for the first time, if you are looking for something you can stay up in, and use to race and or long distance paddle in. even just to do a practice.

It is worth learning K1 as it forces you to learn a mental model that the paddle is, first of all, the water wing that gives you support, and only then a propeller, something that recreational kayaks hide from you. The video is perfect to show that the first thing is so counterintuitive when learning, everybody lets the paddle go instead of using it when tipping :-), even though this become second nature after a few days.

K1 is like sitting on a razor blade but in time you get the hang of it C1 is a lot harder

@@StuffThatBurns Can't say. Only tried it a time or two. Strained my shoulder trying to keep it up and decided to try a more stable boat. People swear the with practice, K1's are doable but I've yet to realize that. Sorry for the 3 year delay. Just ran across this.

You must have had training in a surfski because no one can have 0 experience and hop in a k1 and paddle it for a second.

Actually starting at 12 is a perfect age for learning racing kayaks. As people get older, neuroplasticity decreases. Enjoy and have fun.
