Excellent video! My background is in mineralogy and I have been acquiring a few raw gemstones, rubies and trapiche rubies, and simply wanted to know more about the mining of the Mogok area. I see why it is impossible to pin down an individual specimen to an individual location now. Very valuable information! Thank you, Dr. Peretti!
I think your lessons in reality of buying stones from a large group of people is invaluable! I have cut lapidary materials for 30 years and now live in SC but was mine inspector in Utah for 30 years. Thank you so much for your experience and knowledge it so interesting. The value of these stones are so high and with all the lab created rubies etc. The average person will never own a true ruby of any value.
Dr. A. Peretti These 2 song's lines came strong to mind while watching. Enjoyed the purity of the people & your adjusting to their demeanor's. 20:40 Hey, it ain't such a long drop don't stammer don't stutter From the diamonds in the sidewalk to the dirt in the gutter And you carry those bruises To remind you wherever you go. -John Prine "Bruised Orange" Ain't it funny how an old broken bottle Looks just like a diamond ring But it's far, far from me -John Prine "Far From Me"
I used to play with Burmese pigeon blood rubies along with other gemstones back in Mogoke in Burma. Miss those memories and I can't find those stones anymore. 😆
It's fascinating to know where the gems actually come from, considering it's huge price in the market , the way people value these precious stones and buy them once they earn enough in life. It's also ironical that these precious gems comes from the most impoverished places where those who produce it sell it at throw away prices, only to accrue income later and buy them again at a higher price. A very Educational video thanks for the effort.
Ruby rough doesn’t have the same value as an expertly cut ruby gemstone. Mining is just one part of the process. The finished product is going to cost more than the base form.
I AM A TOTAL ROCK HOUND. EXTRAORDINARY MOTHER EARTH.! So many treasures. Most people I know think I'm crazy, years back, I was introduced to the term "LEVERITE", I Asked what is that? My friend laughed, walking away, casually said, "leave it right there" of course I laughed, said" where u c dirt, rocks, I c possibilities, mystery, beauty, the "THRILL OF THE HUNT" I want to THANK YOU for sharing, I am always thirsty for more knowledge.
amazing documentary. really insightful on many levels. but why does women in this country/field have such a strong presence? a very curious phenomenan.
I like to watch these videos all the time of people from those places when they find a possible gem among all those places. and possibly the most beautiful gemstone in the world is waiting to be discovered there. and another. Here a couple of years ago I acquired a stone weighing more than 1000 grams in a dark face color with a hardness of 7.5 mosh scale. I bought this piece for its rarity but given the report it could be painite, a rare mineral to find.
Good morning! Please I have a gem stone and a small diamond is on top of it! Please if I may ask what could be the big stone also a daimond or topaz please I need help.
Great video, but I still think people should buy lab grown ruby instead. Perfect quality, color transparency, almost no pollution/mining required and so cheap. And, lab grown ruby are real ruby.
@@canadiangemstones7636I'm not sure what you call garbage? Lab grown ruby is the same composition/structure/etc than a "regular" ruby. My background is in analytical chemistry and in mineralogy. If two high grade stone (1 lab and 1 regular) are cut by the same highly skilled lapidary, you won't be able to distinguish them without a magnifier or other instrument.
every body forgets to mention that the asking price in Mogok is allways 1.000 times more than the real price if u want to make business there dnt even ask for price just ofer your price and dont even increase 1c after a couple of days u ll start buying !
@@navyturquoise7784 i have around 6crt Rubby from myanmar. Very dark red and clear inclusion. But in GIA certificate has comment (Heated). I buy this Rubby in Indonesia with price around $ 700 in 2017.
Take a really good look at how unsafe and dangerous conditions that all these poor workers have to endure at a miserably poor wage only to have some gem dealer financially exploit them in order for some consumer to again be exploited. It would s a selfish sick cycle. This guy can bullshiit with the best of them and he exploits theses poor hardworking people. LOOK AT WHAT THESE PEOPLE HAVE TO GO THROUGH in order for you to have your jewellery!!!
Dear Marie Shines, We have actually started with a local doctor to give back and sponsored AIDS children's hospital bills over the last 2 years, fixed water pipes and systems for a village in Mogok and support at the moment refugees in the area through our local network. Great video
I wonder what now happening in this place
Over 1000 people were killed by Myanmar military between February 1st,2021 and October 19th,2021.
These people knows the values , So they markup the price. You should bargain to lowest price.
wow. good video.
you know some people say ruby is an evil stone. but it is pretty to look at.
Anything can be evil if you want it to be
These people don't know the actual price of dollars, they just rate the gems as if they are rating their country's currency. Sooo greedy
They are scarifying their lives for gems.
😁😁😁👍👍
great thnx to share us ur trip,,is the road safe?
Nice
