Rom dumps are a good thing if you play games with retro achievements activated since those are usually very specific to an exact version/release of the game. It gets even worse with CD based games needing like a Rev 2 copy.
I'm curious if they compress the CD's into CHD files for stuff like Sega CD, PSX, etc or just throw raw bin and cue files on there.
Loving this take. I hope u delve more into this, looking into and finding the best LCD and/or CRT for those who care that shows 4:3 content the best. I found your older vid of the wiidual and to me this is the most exciting content, about finding different mods for older consoles. I recently sold off my entire N64 collection myself and now running solely on an Everdrive x7, and I am waiting to get back from vacation to have my N64Digital kit installed soon too. Also gonna install the AVE-HDMI for my Wii too. Always loved you for being yourself man and staying true to yourself -> the best kind of content. TL;DR i love you and I hope you focus more on making vids on how to future proof older games, be it on everdrive or on a minipc to play the games we love.
……You bought this hard drive without knowing what Batocera is? That’s RGT for you LOL, Batocera is a Linux operating system like SteamOS on the Steam Deck thus it is completely incompatible with windows, the only way windows will ever be able to read the drive is if you format it in a way that windows can understand and unfortunately by doing that you will completely wipe the drive.

I’ve seen channels like that and yeah. Pretty much everything from like atari or Nintendo to ps1 will run flawlessly but it’s when you get into Saturn, Dreamcast, psp where you start to have issues
Not so much if you know how to troubleshoot a little bit. You will always have a few roms that weren't dumped properly however if you know what you're doing to avoid viruses you can get replacement rooms that were good.
This is not true if you have a decently powerful system. A 200 dollar pc may have some issues especially with saturn (out of the ones you listed there). But any pc with a gpu in the last like 8 years could easily run all of those nearly flawlessly. Dreamcast: use redream. PSP: use ppsspp standalone works better than the retroarch core. Saturn: use beetle saturn in retroarch. Of those three, dreamcast us easiest to run, then psp, then saturn requires the most. Saturn requires about as much as Gamecube to run in beetle saturn which is the only truly accurate saturn core today imo.

@@lewisgrant7622 just need a bit more juice then. Ppsspp is excellent is performance and compatability. That wasnt always the case but it certainly is these days. Again, the standalone version is easier to run than the core in retroarch

It looks decent, you can’t expect everything to work, but for what you’re getting is great value, also I’m sure you can delete the duplicate roms, just to clean up the library.
I have a 1TB Batocera build playing on my Steam Deck. I love this system.
The 5TB one seems to be extremely more valuable, work better and not have "ANY" duplicates.

Hey there. One question: Can you access the ROM-Data on the HDD for example for saving them or using them on another machine like retropie, or is this a whole image on that thing?
I would think you could create a VM using the external drive as the boot drive, then you'd be able to have your capture software running in Windows and the games in the VM.

I wish you posted this earlier. I have a very powerful PC and I bought the Launch Box Emulation Station from the same Etsy seller that you bought from and this seems to be almost as good at a 1/4 of the price. Is it what it is.
Are the bios for each system on there also?
Can these roms just be dumped onto the steam deck and played through the emulators/emudeck setup?

I don't see why not. If you are using your own emus apparently the standard layout for Batocera is to have one partition that's FAT32 for your content (roms etc). Alternatively you can always boot from USB when docked and run Batocera directly
I like my NES and SNES classic consoles loaded with roms. It’s nice to play those games with their original controllers.

I recommend Billtendo for a cool Wii that is built into an emulator machine. I wanna say his basic model is like $150 but it might even be less than $100, and it comes with NES, Sega/32x, super Nintendo, N64, Gameboy/color/advance libraries built into it. He's a solid dude too. He also has another version that is more expensive but has GameCube games built into it. He has a website.

I blame you for getting me back into emulation too LOL. I was just fine with my 1,400 Steam game library and 100+ Switch library and god knows how deep 3DS library but now here I am with literally every game from NES through PS1.
You can connect the retro bit controllers up to it to play too.

You can build a really nice mini itx form factor pc for emulation lately at all types of budgets. A gtx 1660, gtx 1070 etc will do just about anything if you want a step up from integrated graphics in one like in this setup. I honestly emulate most older games for convenience even if I have the cartridge or disc.
Ditto what this guy is saying, but I bought a ready made ASUS Rog setup awhile back on sale for $500 with a gtx1660TI. It would give you a boost up on some of these newer retro systems.
These days I've even seen Nvidia 3050's and 3060's ready built PC's going on sale (like $700) for good prices. I always keep an eye on Slickdeals... I primarily use my rig for VR Chat. I think it or another low end gaming PC would probably serve you much better with the systems you are presenting on the 2TB Batocera system.
Keep up the good work though... I too have been trying to downsize as I've gotten older. I love tech, but I realize I have way too much stuff. lol.
Even has newer games on in from PC all depends on how strong your PC is

I haven't done so yet because my capture card is not with me. imagine that in order to screen screen capture, you have to run it on one pc and feed it to another PC with an hdmi and capture card.

If this product has preload games doesn't that mean it's violating copyright law? They likely don't have a license to sell those games. Although some of those games may be abandonware. Especially the much older ones. Is it legal to purchase that product in the US?

You hzve 2 options, 1: run a vitual machine inside windows and boot into that drive in there, 2: use a video capture card between that pc and the monitor to a different computer.
are you able to get to the roms folder to use the roms on other systems??
Batocera is amazing. Nearly no setup unless you want to make adjustments. Trust me when I say, “you want to boot into batocera” No downloads just plug and play. Also it minimizes the risk of viruses on your computer because it doesn’t open like a file on your os. It literally doesn’t read anything but your motherboard.

I might actually buy this just for the arcade and neo geo being fully setup, and the extra game systems are also nice to have. For the life of me I couldn't get mame and neo geo running on my own, even though I tried multiple times over the past 15+ years.

So I have a beelink ser5 max with a ryzen 7 5800h and 32gb ram not sure what all that means really but my computer runs slow when I plug in the Kinhank. I’ve been using wireless keyboard and mouse off one dongle. Idk and my controller won’t work on it but I can’t get into the menu because my pc runs really slow when I plug it in. I was able to use my controller when I emulated a hard drive myself. I just got tired of the long process so I figured I would just buy one and it’s not really working. I guess I’m wondering if you might possibly have a solution. Oh and my pc isn’t recognizing my device as batocera when I enter the boot menu.

I bought this exact game drive and love it. I like the baba Sarah is its own operating system. This is going to work great in my arcade cabinet
i think you would have to boot from the hard drive via the boot menu in order for your computer to run batocera off the hard drive, same as if it were on a usb i believe!!! nice review!!!

My personal opinion is that the best solution is modded systems and everdrives. You get the real files, playing on real hardware without the cost or space of owning the whole library physically. Emulation is powerful, but outside of having to have the systems you want individually, its less of a headache trying to play games if you have the systems modded or with everdrives. Good video RGT, I've been watching so many of your vids and just realized I wasn't subscribed, so now I am!
that is great, but you could also do modded systems and ever drives and still do emulation through PC. Ever drives use microSD cards and those are pretty easy to switch between the actual modded system and Emulation through PC. depending on the microsd card and system though the speed may very, but I assume older systems, before PS2 era will run fine on emulation through the microsd card alone
and handheld systems that also use microsd cards
I use a gba flash card and DS flash card for my actual Gameboy advance and DS lite and moving the roms over to actually PC to emulate is super fast and easy

The tape thing works for the old 8 bit computer systems which had software on tape :)
