"This song is nutty". Good sir, I believe the correct phrase is: "This song is...bananas."
“B-A-N-A-N-A-S”.
*throws a whole-ass barrel*
The fact that you had not been recommended any DKC at all yet is unreal. Its a gold mine for BGM. Wait for the actual aquatic tracks.
Oooooh yeeees! Aquatic Ambience is my absolutely favorite piece of video game music of all times.
There is not a lot of platformer music on his channel, it is mostly RPG and stuff.
Couldn't agree more, I find the first two games to be pure perfection when it came to osts. Totally deserving full blown videos for the whole osts.
Still mind-blowing that they were made so long ago. David Wise definitely on his peak on those years.
Original fear factory was just bonkers insanely good. This is just a remix/rehash its not bad, but....
I really hope this opens the door to you listening to the Tropical Freeze ost
For sure. That's one of the best OSTs of all time
Jes Tropical freeze has the best DKC soundtrack
It's subjectively the best ost of all time
He gotta do the original ones.
Donkey Kong Country 2 have a wonderful OST too !
90% of DKC returns music are remixes from the first 3 DKC games (wich is signified by the "returns" in the themes name). They where not able to get the original composer for the series, to return for Returns (wich was essentially the revival of the series after not getting new games for an eternity) so they just remixed/ updated his old compositions. But they got him back for the sequel "Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze" and oh boy that games soundtrack goes abselutly crazy.
I actually preferred Returns soundtrack. Not just because of the remixes.
When describing DK music, it’s most commonly defined as Ambiance Evolved or Naturally Evolving Ambiance. And it’s hard to find any tracks that don’t slap in some way. This song is a remix of Fear Factory from DKC the SNES. That one being composed by David Wise, an amazing guy up there with Grant Kirkhope for my top game composers.
Speaking of, you would ADORE some of the Banjo-Kazooie series music. Even Nuts & Bolts has a few bops.
You're definitely right about the differences in setting. A pretty central theme of Donkey Kong Country is the duality between nature and technology. Usually the games will start off in purely natural environments, but the further you go in the more industrial areas you'll enter as nature is being corrupted by the villains.
you should absolutely listen to Stickerbrush Symphony, one of the best vgm tracks ever made
The Donkey Kong Country series has some of my favorite VGM in gaming. Especially with Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, Busted Bayou is an amazing vibe.
DKC2 is one of my favourite OSTs of all time would love to see you listen to anything from it most particularly Stickerbush Symphony, Hot Head Bop, Mining Melancholy, Crocodile Cacophony & Jib Jig
Yeah, DKC2 is amazing.
Same
The DKC series is a treasure trove of ambient yet kinetic tunes.
I'm surprised this was the first DK game which got requested to you since this is the only game where they didn't get David WIse to compose the music, DKC:TF and DKC2 have absolutely godtier soundtracks so I hope you end up getting requests for more from those games in particular.
This is one of the more intense songs in Donkey Kong. Not necessarily the usual. It’s a factory/industrial level in the latter part of the original game and Returns. This is a remake of the original song.
So Fear Factory is a song from the original SNES Donkey Kong Country. The game is located on DK island, starts off fairly jungle-y and natural but on top of the island is a polluted/industrial area where the enemies kind of set up a base. The track itself is only played in a couple of the levels that are in that area and visually have a lot of metal bars and plates.
Fear Factory Returns is from the Wii "revival" DKC games by Retro studio. I don't remember those levels as much but I'm pretty sure that track plays in the few more industrial looking levels.
You haven't heard DKC stuff? Dude, you'll love it! Stickerbrush symphony and aquatic ambience are two great ones to react to as well!
Easily in the Top 10 of all of Donkey Kong Country OST's, and that list is easily a matter of preference. I prefer the original fear factory, but this is a very, very well done re-imagining of it. If you get the time, highly recommend listening to the original on the SNES.
The whole DKC franchise just has amazing music in general. Sadly for Tropical Freeze it's kinda soft and a lot of it is drowned out by the game sounds, so much of it doesn't stick out during gameplay.
Dang shoutouts to Ape Escape in the pre-listen intro such a chill song also Fear Factory is a bit underrated back in OG DKC its not talked about enough its a shame its a late game song
Just talked about Ape Escape in the video I uploaded today lol
@@JessesAuditorium oh Neat!
DKC music is amazing. I remember dying on King K Rool as a kid just so I could listen to the phase change beat drop in Gangplank Galleon
Im more bias'd towards the older titles but Nintendo has always had fucking banger bgm for their games
Aw yeah DK music! I never did get very far with Donkey Kong Country Returns but I'm very fond of the first Donkey Kong Country on the SNES. I had no idea Returns shared composer with Metroid Prime (which I have played through) though, that's cool! All the the DKC games from the three games on the SNES to Returns to Tropical Freeze have fantastic soundtracks.
I don't know what the level this songs plays in looks like in Returns, but the song is a remix of a song, just called Fear Factory, from the first DKC and its level is a very industrial factory type affair. There's actually a fairly decent variety of environments beyond jungle, like underwater and mountains and...factories.
The Donkey Kong Country series has loads of great music. If you're ever looking to react to more, Stickerbrush Symphony from DKC2 is widely considered one of the best in the series. Would love to see what you think of it.
The original Slammin Steel from DKC is also Amazing
Quick correction: David Wise composed the original Donkey Kong Country trilogy of games.
There's a handful of new tracks in DKC Returns (the rocket stage ones for example) but otherwise they're all arrangements.
DKCR was the only Donkey Kong Country game where David Wise had no involvement in. Its sequel, Tropical Freeze, had him on-board again.
All of them are incredible platforming games, you gotta check them out at some point! =)
All of them can be played on a Nintendo Switch right now, except for Returns.
I think Kenji Yamamoto largely did right by David Wise on this game's OST, though I prefer the original SNES version of this particular track (Fear Factory).
I think your thoughts on Yamamoto having an identity to his sound are on the mark here. Metroid Prime kinda defined his sound's texture and mixing (and instrumentation, dude loves his choir synths), and it was interesting seeing that collide with Wise's compositions and more humanistic instrument choices in Wise's tracks; the few original works Yamamoto did for DKCR are *extremely* Metroid Prime. Both creators are amazing, particularly at establishing atmosphere and mood, and I'm excited for you to hear a lot more of their work.
The original games' stories are super bare-bones. The Kremlings (anthropomorphic reptile people) have colonized DK Island and begun industrializing it. DK gets involved pretty much only because they stole his banana hoard. This is true in DKC Returns as well: an angry volcano god once again steals DK's bananas, this time because for some reason he uses them to animate his avatar and power his armies.
In all cases DK smashes everything hilariously indiscriminately and gets his bananas back, then goes back to sleep.
This track played in the Kremlings' factories, and it plays again when DK visits the ruins of those factories.
that acidy bassline is so tight
Stickerbrush Symphony! One of the legendary VGM songs, like to see whenever that rolls around.
DKC has so many good tracks in veneral though, surprised you haven't had any yet and always nice to see you discovering new stuff xD
The DKC series has absolutely masterful soundtracks. I can't wait for you to hear Aquatic Ambiance or Strickerbrush Symphony, or any of the other fan favorites. Or anything from DKC Tropical Freeze, the game that came after this one.
Basically a remix of the original Fear Factory from DKC on the SNES BY David Wise, that whole soundtrack is fire. DKC 2 is even better ❤️
Dang, I didn't remember the DKC Returns music to slap this hard.
Kind of reminds me to Mega Man music
the returns in the song is because it's a remix of an original song from Donkey Kong country 1. The returns in the title of the game is because is the first DKC after a lot of years.
Donkey kong country 2 has super great music 😊and the composer David wishes is also amazing you should listen to som of them.
Great video
i loved a lot of the dkc returns soundtrack but i have a soft spot in my heart for the originals. i remember it being even more jarring in the original which fit beautifully because you went from running around in jungles to suddenly being in a dark factory with a bassy, industrial, and oppressive soundtrack. the dkc series just does ambience differently.
Dude, Donkey Kong has the most amazing soundtrack ever!!!!
Never heard DKC music? You need to. I know I say that every time, but this one really is special. As good as Mario, Sonic, Crash Bandicoot and Spyro are, DK has always been the King of platformer music. David Wise compised mist of the DKC games, Returns being one of the few games he had no involvement in, amd it shows.
Most of the Returns music is just DKC 1 remasters, as is this one.
Donkey Kong Country 2 and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze are especially good, easily up there in my top 20 Soundtracks of all time.
Interesting you say it gives you Aquatic vibes, since this is the only game in the series that doesn't have any underwater segments whatsoever.
Someone send him the credits theme to Metroid Prime
Thank you very much Jesse.
I'd just reply to another comment saying this, but there are so many, consider this a reply to all of them at once.
It's just criminal that Donkey Kong Country series music hasn't popped up before this.
DKC 1, DKC2, Returns, and Tropical Freeze all have absolute magical soundtracks.
I would recommend starting with the Title/Intro theme for DKC1, and moving forward at random from there.
Particular favorites:
(I don't remember the specific titles to all of these, I'm sure someone will help with that).
DCK1 Jungle
Bonus
Gangplank Galleon
(Aquatic Ambiance is also a fan favorite.)
DKC2
Snakey Chantey
Stickerbrush Symphony
Hot Head Bop
Mining Melancholy
Bonus Room
Pirate Ship (the first stage)
Ice Cavern
And Topsail Trouble(?) I'll mention as a bonus.
I look forward to any of these appearing on your channel.
Someone send this man some David Wise and Grant Kirkhope, or any OST from old school RARE games. They just have the ability to give you chills.
Ill just suggest "Homecoming Hijynx" from "Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze" real quik
You had mentioned you wanted to hear some Metroid music at some point. If I could make a request, I think the first one you should listen to is Brinstar Red Soil from Samus Returns. It's a rearrangement of the original from Super Metroid, and it's a really underrated song from the series. I really think you'd dig it.
The Ape Escape music in the background. 👌
You need to hear Cynthia's theme from Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, there's many versions and they are all good with the B2W2 being top tier
metroid is interesting its a lot of ambiance based on the environments, as its a game about exploring alien worlds all on your own. But then it often also involves spiritual or tribal like music, as you stumble upon the ancient ruins of an advanced civilization or something akin to that, or downright sciencey tracks within
Feather fiend is amazing.
I hope I'm the first to mention this but as if the title wasn't indication enough, this song references an older Donkey Kong Country track called Fear Factory. Honestly every Factory (and Roller Coaster...) themed track in Donkey Kong Country series is pure gold bananas.
I've been waiting for Donkey Kong series forever
I wonder how many people in your recommends will mislabel the song Stickerbush Symphony. Everyone loves the typo Stickerbrush lol.
Damn, you got so much good Nintendo music to listen to.
Cool song, but I think the original Donkey kong version of this song hits harder:)
The setting for DKC is definitely very much like Crash Bandicoot. In a lot of ways, Crash was an attempt to bring DKC into 3D. DKC 1 starts out in the jungle, but as you progress, you start working through mining shafts in caves, into a factory dumping toxic waste into a lake, and end up fighting an anthropomorphic alligator monarch on a pirate ship. DKC 2 has you starting on the wreckage of a pirate ship, going through an amusement park, and winding up in a Frankenstein-esque lab where the alligator monarch has rebranded to be a mad scientist. (...unless Dr. K Rool was 3. I forget what hat K Rool wears when)
DKC Returns was a sort of soft reboot, with the original DKC games being on SNES, and then Returns being the first game since the SNES on Wii, and Returns is interesting in that it was made in-house by Nintendo if I remember right with a lot of homages to the SNES games musically which were composed by David Wise and Grant Kirkhope. So we get to see a Japanese composer's take on tracks composed in the US which I find fascinating.
I also highly recommend Aquatic Ambience from DKC1, Stickerbrush Symphony from DKC2, and Gangplank Galleon from DKC1, 2, and Smash Bros. Ultimate, with Gangplank Galleon being a fascinating trip across all three iterations. Used as a final boss theme in 1, the first world in 2, and then the hype track for a fan favorite character that hadn't been seen in nearly 20 years surprising people when they show up in Smash, all while being hype as all hell on its own.
The most interesting thing about the Donkey Kong series is how it basically began Nintendo's entry into the Japanese video game industry (and thus saved the industry as history showed) and kickstarted Miyamoto's stardom, the series was basically made by Western studios. The original trilogy were what put Rareware on the map and then when the series went dormant after their acquisition, it wasn't picked up again until Retro Studios got its hands on it in the Wii era.
Great points but some slight corrections: though Retro Studios is a first party Nintendo studio, they are not typically considered in-house and really only Kenji Yamamoto's contributions to DKCR could be considered that. Grant Kirkhope actually composed none of the DKC games either, he only worked on Donkey Kong 64 and the Donkey Kong Land games (which were Game Boy ports of the SNES games). DKC1 was actually composed by two composers, David Wise and Evaline Fischer, who deserves a huge amount of praise for her contributions to the series music that sadly doesn't get talked about as much! David Wise would later do DKC2 in its entirety and Evaline Fischer would do DKC3's original release on SNES (though Wise would later compose an entirely new soundtrack for the GBA port)
Donkey kong country has amazing themes, especially Tropical Freeze they have everything from calm and beutifull sounding themes for exploring ruins or swimming in underwater caves, to metal for when you really need to punch the shit out of an icebear...
This is one of my favourite reactions from you, I keep coming back to this.
you know, this track reminds me of music from a Sonic fangame, of all things. Which i will actually request, because while some people might not take fan content as seriously, Sonic Robo Blast 2 has some goddamn _bangers._
So my requests are:
- Greenflower Zone Act 2
- Techno Hill Act 1 (which is what this reminded me of)
- Arid Canyon Act 1
- Egg Rock Act 2
99% of Nintendo games has godlike musics
Check out Stickerbush symphony from Donkey Kong Country 2
You have to listen to the Tropical Freeze OST. Windmill Hills, Scorch n Torch, Busted Bayou, Amiss Abyss, Irate Eight Land/Tension, Harvest Hazards, Seashore War, Forest Folly, Aquaduct Assault. Seriously, write these down cause you'll have to listen to them at some point.
Kenji Yamamoto remixed the track but the og composer is David Wise, the Phil Collins of videogame music (bald englishman great at composing drums)
more reactions from dck ost pleaseee!!
Ya need to listen to music madness from the games soundtrack
The original is even more of a banger
I was a gameboy kid. Loved me some Donkey Kong and Metroid. Great soundtracks. The newer Donkey Kong Country soundtracks aren't as good, but still have some bops.
Yes dk is incredible
You have to do every DKC song
YOU? A SEGA KID?
I mean they didn't have XboX back then, and PS was still taking its first steps so that kinda makes sense. Maybe? Am I crazy?
Hey I think you should listen to “con lentitude poderosa” it’s from ror2 and I think you’ll like it
please listen to Punch Bowl, from DKC Tropical Freeze
Okay so speaking of side-scrollers... SOMEONE please recommend some Ori music, PLEASE !!
Kh is being missed
Jesse, want try react genshin impact - Reaiden Shogun demo, or maybe genshin 2022 concert. Insane music and concert🔥🔥
Harpsibored did a cover of this as well.
