@@TheTheisson Absolutely. People first start playing Kirby expecting something cute and fun, and it is.....until.... it progresses to truly epic extremes and the realization that the setup for all of this craziness was foreshadowed from the start. They just snuck it in, in ways that you ignored, at first, due to cute and pretty visuals.

This song is the final boss theme. In most Kirby games that usually entails fighting a nightmarish Eldritch entity which is no different here.
Also, the "Roche Limit" is the distance two Celestial bodies can be before they tear each other apart with their gravitational force (which happens in the game).

Kirby is really notorious and is highly memed for being the one of the most hardcore whiplash of moods and tones in terms of how dark it can go, and this goes for the soundtracks. They go seriously hard and differ a lot, like going from cute adventurous orchestral, like having dubstep from Planet Robobot, trap snare(is that the name?) they use in rap for Super Kirby Clash, somber industrial from the song Inspecting The Factory, heavy metal for Galacta Knight, and always extremely high effort orchestral final boss fights against horrifying eldritch/near-satanic beings that are radically outside the pre-established plot’s tone. The fact that the games remix and remaster a ton of past music tracks into either different genres or with different styles constantly is proof that the creators KNOW their music is top notch.

Yeah, this probably the best Kirby soundtrack to date.
Which is good, because the majority of this OST was written by relatively new composers. Makes me confident for the series' future!
Kirby and the Forgotten Land's OST was a collaboration between four composers:
Jun Ishikawa (who wrote the music for the very first Kirby game),
Hirokazu Ando (who's been there since the second game, and wrote this track in particular),
Yuuta Ogasawara (who first joined for the previous mainline Kirby game),
and Yuki Shimooka (who makes his mainline Kirby debut here).

  • @TDS-BonusFeatures
    @TDS-BonusFeatures 2 роки тому +545

Massive Kirby fan here answering a couple of comments asked on the video.
Nintendo is not the one who makes these games, HAL does. Kirby is pretty much their main mascot, and yes, they love him very very much. One thing Kirby is always consistent with is quality, that being thanks to how passionate Hal is about their character.
This song plays during the final boss fight. The music might feel scattered because the final boss here is pretty much coming up with attacks in the spot. Their final attack being fully improvised from a desperate attempt to stop Kirby from killing it. Pulling 2 planets together and making them approach the Roche Limit (pretty much forcing both planets to rip each other appart with their gravity).
The video you watched has phase 1 and 2 (electric guitar is phase 2). The uploader just randomly cuts it off for no reason. Version 2 is the same track but with some parts of phase 2 split, since this is the version that plays on the rematch against the boss in an extra mode.
One of the song's hooks could be that it references one of the games main tracks "Welcome to a New World".
Kirby music for the most part is like Gourmet Race. But later on into the adventure the music gets more and more different to it. In forgotten land we go from the happy Running Through the New World to stuff light Moonlight Canyon and the Raging Lion Roars.
Kirby music in general is amazing, they all have different tones and themes. You should definitely check out more music from the series in your own time!
Your perception of Kirby is half right. Kirby is a cute bubble with a huge heart and an insatiable appetite, who occasionally fights eldritch space horrors like a leech sucking of the life source of the planet, a machine bent on destroying all organic life, a destroyer of worlds worshipped as a god and now an invasive species with the power to open rifts through space experimented on and abandoned for many many years
Answering the question to longtime fans, this track is absolutely mind blowing and no doubt one of the best. The modern games tend to have AMAZING final boss tracks. CROWNED, Fatal Blooms on the Moonlight, Mind in a Program, Star Conquering Traveler; but honestly this might be the best one so far. Star Conquering Traveler is a close second tho. But that might be just because I love the game it comes from.

Another thing is that the song is technically 16 parts, the first main melody, around 14 different short transition pieces and the second main melody (when the guitar riff kicks in).
There's 14 transitions because they wanted phase 1 and 2 to be seamlessly connected, no matter at what point you beaten phase 1.

The moment the electric guitar hits is timed to always line up with when the final boss blackens the sky and starts throwing buildings at you. There are at least a dozen short "transition songs" that can play to smoothly transition from any part of Pt1 into the start of Pt2! The upload you listened to used the final transition song instead of looping Pt1.

Don't know if it's been mentioned, but this track happens to have several transitions for the phase one to phase two change! Last time I checked, there's about 10-14 individual ones, each varying in style.
These apply to how long it takes you to beat the first phase, allowing the music to smoothly switch to phase two! (the part where the guitar goes wild..hehe).
There are many tracks in the game that do this, but it's crazy how many this particular track gets, and no wonder.

In terms of raw compositional quality, I think Forgotten Land's soundtrack is probably the best. Planet Robobot puts up SERIOUS competition, but its such a different "feel" that it's hard to compare. Return to Dreamland has an equally great soundtrack that's a bit simpler but SUPER iconic, and Kirby Air Ride puts up competition too for being so dense with fantastic music (although iirc a lot of the music was pulled from the anime so it might not count...?)
I've been listening to this song practically nonstop since the game came and I think my absolute favorite part is at 6:00 , where the drum hits hard on the _offbeat_ and it creates this WONDERFUL swivel-neck head-bang feeling that's totally irresistible. It works so perfectly with the more upbeat, let's-do-this feel of the music once it kicks into "phase 2" there with the electric guitars.
BTW, this plays ingame during the final boss battle with an ultimate lifeform who just absorbed your friend to become whole-- you fight it on top of a helipad over the skyline of a long-abandoned modern city at sunset, as it flies far away in the sky, casting a shadow whenever it passes between you and the sun, as it rips open rifts in spacetime to call down meteors. Kirby endgames are _nuts_ man LMAO

Kirby OST's IMO are some are the most unappreciated Soundtracks in gaming. Their fans love the tracks but honestly outside of the fans people seem to only gravite to the famous songs like Gourmet Race / Sand Canyon.
Its extremely hard to pick a favorite soundtrack. The older games of course will have the limitations of being on older hardware, but Kirby Super Star, Kirby's Dream Land 3, and Kirby 64 are beloved. Another thing that Kirby has a tradition of doing is always bringing back fan favorite tracks. Nearly every game will have a Green Greens/Gorumet Race remix.
Moonstruck Blossom and Suite: The Star Conquering Traveler are very good recommendations. The final bosses of Triple Deluxe and Star Allies.
Personally. Kirby Planet Robobot's has some amazing final boss themes. They are vastly different than the other famous final boss themes due to sticking to the theme of the game, robotization. Going for a more techno/electro/synth/industrial feel. But "VS. Star Dream", "Intermezzo Without a Leader" and "Vagrant Counting Song of Retrospection/Keepsake of Oblivion" are some of my favorites in the franchies.
(Also for some reason, all of the recent OST's give all the tracknames extravagant and epic sounding titles. Its really amazing.)

with respect to your “experiment,” as a lifelong kirby fan, this game has probably the best OST to date. it’s tied with star allies for me. the quality of kirby soundtrack has been continually increasing with every game for the past decade or so, it’s so good. i’m biased in favor of return to dreamland since i played so much of it as a kid but forgotten land is objectively FANTASTIC. if you want more tracks from it, i recommend either Roar of Dedede or Morpho Knight. version 2 of roche limit is just an edit with all the transition pieces used between the different phases of the fight, it’s the same track.

Kirby is no stranger to putting down godlike beings, and the subject of this theme is no exception. The characters name is Fecto Elfilis, and just to give you a point or reference, this game takes place on a planet other than Popstar (Kirbys home), but during the climax this character creates a wormhole large enough to pull all of Popstar out of, causing the 2 to almost crash into eachother, hense the term Roche limit which I believe refers to the point at which 2 astral bodies pull eachother apart with each other's gravity if I'm not mistaken. Very fitting theme for such a powerful character

Hal just loves to go all out on the osts for Kirby games
In the main games you'll find unexpected bangers such as Star Allies' La Follia d'amore or Literally any iteration of Galacta Knight's theme. Even in the spinoffs you'll find absolutely amazing hidden gems, some of my favorites that I can think of are both Phantom of The Moon's Spirit RMX and Deus ex Machina at a Young Age RMX, both of which were already remixes of existing songs from previous games put into Star Allies, and then remixed AGAIN for Super Kirby Clash and I love them for it.
I really hope you listen to either Triple Deluxe's Sullied Grace/Fatal Blooms in Moonlight or even Return to Dreamland's Under My Control/C-R-O-W-N-E-D at some point in the future (like this song these ones are also part of 2 phase final bosses)

It's so clear this game is practically a love letter to the series as a whole up to this point, and its soundtrack has all the charm and flair of the franchise's soundtracks and the grandiose that fits this being one of Kirby's greatest adventures.

  • @Kogworks
    @Kogworks 2 роки тому +18

I would say that at least in terms of composition, this is the best Kirby song ever made.
There’s a neat little dichotomy between the first and second phases that’s amazing audio storytelling.
Kirby music is usually known for its upbeat tempo, with heavy usage of brass, and electronic instruments with a strong drumbeat.
Kirby final bosses usually take place on a backdrop that depicts some sort of night sky or deep space environment.
The first phase of the boss? None of that. A haunting, violin and piano heavy theme playing over a bright sunset with subtle drums.
Then in the second phase the sky goes dark and the song turns into an triumphant roar of trumpets, electric guitar, and booming drums.
Alienation gives way to familiarity as Kirby starts winning.
You can literally hear the moment where Kirby starts gaining the upper hand and Fecto Elfilis starts losing its cool and it’s amazing.

I could not imagine listening to this if my only experience with Kirby music was Gourmet Race and Checker Knights. Kirby music has changed so much since those! It's incredible!
Also, I've been around since Kirby's Return to Dream Land on the Wii, and I've played many earlier titles after I started with Return to Dream Land. Since Return to Dreamland, lore started getting a bit more plentiful and heavier. The music started being able to tell stories better. Since then, every 3D kirby game after that had more lore and more amazing music. Kirby Star Allies' music felt so new, especially with Jambastion and whatnot. I can say with certainty that the music for Kirby and the Forgotten Land absolutely blew me away when I first heard it upon my first playthrough. I think I will look back at this soundtrack as a huge milestone in music and storytelling in Kirby. It is, in my opinion, arguably the best Kirby soundtrack ever made.

  • @goodgizmo8132
    @goodgizmo8132 2 роки тому +8

I'm pretty sure I audibly gasped when I saw the title. I'm fairly new around here (you can thank FFXIV) and I was hoping you'd listen to more Kirby music after seeing you did Checker Knights awhile back and this was the one I wanted to see the most!
"I thought it was just a cute little sidescroller" haha, yeah that tends to be a lot of people's reaction. Especially recently since Forgotten Land was a lot of people's introduction to Kirby. It _is_ a cute sidescroller, but when Kirby games want to go completely of the rails (which is most of the time) they do not hold back at all. It's basically been a Kirby tradition even as far back as the first few games to ever be released. Which makes it all the more amusing that most people just have absolutely no clue, simply because of how unassuming Kirby appears on the surface.
To answer your question though, I'm not sure I would say Forgotten Land has the best soundtrack, but it's definitely up there for sure. What I can say though is that even though this song might not necessarily be my _favorite_ final boss theme just yet (it's got some pretty stiff competition!), I do think that it's the most masterful, if that makes any sense.

Kirby and the forgotten lands ost is phenomenal. As a long time Kirby fan, I believe it’s one of the best, but there are some smaller things to note. This game fits a special role in the series, as Star Allies came before, it was full of nothing but fanservice and call backs to the entire series, while Forgotten Land is fresh, new, original, and a new step for the series. It lacks a lot of that fanservice like call backs to older songs, so that’s where it meets some criticism or debate. The main motif is used a lot as well, but to me, just in terms of how it’s written, is amazing, a lot of amazing songs. I’d recommend some “Northeast frost street” cuz that’s some beautiful music

After defeating this, it decides to just destroy everything, opening a massive wormhole to another planet (Kirby's home, Popstar) and setting it on a collision course with the Forgotten Land.

Big kirby fan here. Played nearly all of them. The reason the song goes on so many melodies one after the other is because of the transitions like people have mentioned, but also because all of those melodies are what you’ve been hearing throughout the game. Almost every final boss theme will use melodies associated with stages, characters, or even the older games, so each finale is always distinct. Planet Robobot has my personal favorite finale music as it’s a remix of the title screen and completely different from anything the series has done. Star Allies has Star Conquering Traveler, a whole classical four suite movement which I’ve already seen on your request list and highly recommend. A couple other fan favorites are Moonstruck Blossom and CROWNED

kirby music is amazing. The cool thing is that kirby's theme are generally joyful and catchy but if there is one thing kirby games have mastered is to set apart it's final boss and it does through music (and other thing). Which mean that kirby's final boss theme are much more complex in there writing but remain, without a shred of a doubt, absolute bangers. There is simply no boss theme that I wouldn't recommend for you to listen to, even if less complex in term of structure.
As for the question is it the best kirby soundtrack... Well I do love it but kirby planet robobots and some triple star deluxe theme still hold on a bit better but perhaps that will change as I listen to this soundtrack again. Nonetheless it's one of the best for sure as it's orchestration is amazing. But yeah answering this question is hard especially with robobot that as a super different feeling and is more about remixing the old but is amazing still.

This is the first Kirby final boss theme (I believe) to NOT include a Green Greens leitmotif, which is the quintissential 'Kirby' theme as the first level theme in most games. Honestly it's a good touch, because Star Allies, the previous game, was the "finale" of a sort of arc in the Kirby series, and this game is the first in the next stage of the series.
Also the ten second brass section at the beginning of phase two is just godly, I love it. And to answer your "What is Kirby" question, it's basically sunshine and rainbows until the last lever/set of levels when it evolves into Eldritch Horror lmao.

The thing with Kirby music is that it always, ALWAYS pushes whatever system it is on to its limits, so each new game has a VERY strong soundtrack, they always go as hard as they possibly can.
I've been a fan literally since I can remember, as Kirby's Avalanche was one of if not THE first game I played as a child, so I can assure you, this series has S+ tier soundtracks, rivaling other behemoths like Mega Man, Castlevania, Zelda, Halo and Mario in quality, quantity, variety, tone, everything.
I strongly suggest you go in chronological order if you continue to react to the songs, as newer songs tend to pay homage or include leitmotifs of previous tracks in many significant ways.
If you just choose some random songs, I strongly recommend "Nightmare second form" from Kirby's Adventure. "Coo the Owl" and "Dark Matter" from Kirby's Dreamland 2, "Marx Battle" and "Credits" from Kirby Super Star, "02 battle" from Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, "Queen Sectonia" from Kirby Triple Deluxe, "vs Star Dream" from Kirby Planet Robobot or a personal favorite of mine, "C.R.O.W.N.E.D." from Kirby's Return to Dreamland, that one hits harder if you've heard the others first.

I've been a fan of older Kirby games in the past, and Forgotten Land is somewhat a return to the frachise for me since I didn't own any of the 3DS ones that I heard were so good.
What I *can* say though as a general fan of videogames, is that this track in particular is one of THE best final boss themes I've ever heard. Absolutely insane when you dig into the amount of layers and transitions it has dependant on where the player is fighting the boss.

Forgotten Land has some amazing songs, but the entire series has so many absolute bangers! There are now 4 composers, 2 of which have been around since the beginning of the series.
    Jun Ishikawa (since 1992)
    Hirokazu Ando (since 1993)
    Yuuta Ogasawara (since 2018)
    Yuki Shimooka (since 2019)
They all worked on this games ost, each having their own flavor of music writing, and this piece was written by Ando.
Fun note is that in more recent titles, there is a sound test mode or jukebox that lets you listen to the games ost, and each song has different colored notes that tell you who wrote it

I'm not the biggest super fan of Roche limit, but it's definitely up there as one of the best. The whole Forgotten Land soundtrack is probably in top 5 at least among the other Kirby games.
On a compositional level, it really is the most complicated one ever, but I do like the ones with a structure more.

Honestly, the problem to answering your question should be done in reverse. So many of the Kirby games are "Top of the class" soundtracks type of deal, but personally I'd put The Forgotten Land soundtrack in my top 3 Kirby soundtrack but wouldn't rank it further cuz my preferences change constantly juggling between it, Planet Robobot and Rainbow Curse

in terms of execution this is definitely the best OST
I have a soft spot for others like Triple Deluxe, but yeah the past few games have had some surprisingly insane compositions, and this is them going ALL OUT

As someone who's been with the Kirby series for a long time, I honestly could not tell you which game I would consider to have the best soundtrack. That's because many of the Kirby games have vastly differing styles of music from each other. Rainbow Curse has a lot of electric guitar, Crystal Shards has synthesized atmospheric choir, Planet Robobot has techno and dubstep, and epic yarn is entirely comprised of relaxing piano melodies. All those games have great soundtracks and they're all impressive in completely different ways.

Final boss tracks in Kirby are always an absolute delight. The meandering nature of the first part of the track is chaotic to reflect the unknown nature of the foe you're facing; but once the second phase hits (right after that request for electric guitar), suddenly it's much more a familiar suite of familiar melodies with a more consistent flow and grandiose swell as the fight heads towards its climax.
It's not neccessarily indicative of what the rest of the soundtrack is like - but also, the rest of the soundtrack is gorgeous and energetic in completely different ways. Listening to this game's soundtrack on its own tells you the story of its adventure.

Kirby games usual have a theme they stick to or they use the first song in the series Green Greens and they love to merge it into the final bosses themes. It’s really awesome to listen to and recognize the things you’ve been hearing throughout the games. When it comes to themes this is a top 3 for me it’s amazing but a lot of songs “especially the final boss ones” they are each very unique and extremely good. Very great soundtrack experience.

One of my fave parts about this track is how they composed 14 whole different musical transition sections between the first and second phase that play depending on when during the fight you switch phases, so it's always a smooth transition, like that's some dedication
Definitely among my fave boss themes in any video game

Yeah this is probably one of, if not the best soundtrack of the franchise.
Kirby games final boss usually have that kind of crazy themes, like Moonstruck Blossom or Mind in a PROGRAM.
This game also remixed the Morpho Knight's theme from an ok song into a amazing one.

Dude you need to react to more Kirby Final Boss songs. I heavily recommend Suite : Star-Conquering Traveler. Now is Roche Limit the best soundtrack in Kirby history…I love it, but personally, I prefer Star-Conquering Traveler, I probably prefect Moonstruck Blossom, Dirty and Beauty, and maybe C-R-O-W-N-E-D. Still need more time to think about it !

I would say Kirby and the Forgotten Land’s music is definitely up there, easily top 3 for sure. I personally think it is the best yet. So many songs from different levels are banger after banger after banger.
In terms of other tracks, I’d say check out C-R-O-W-N-E-D and Fatal Blooms in Moonlight. Both final boss bangers.

As for your question, as an avid Kirby fan, I can safely tell you that Forgotten Land has one of, if not the best soundtrack in the entirety of Kirby. And that's absolutely saying something; the Kirby series has never slept on its soundtracks. Epic Yarn, Triple Deluxe, Star Allies, Planet Robobot, and Rainbow Curse were previously up there as my favorites in the series, but Forgotten Land completely blew it out of the park with all of its themes, yet even still, the other soundtracks are nothing to be scoffed at, and it's seriously hard to say which one is the "best."
My personal favorite VGM from this game though is Northeast Frost Street, it gives me so many happy chemicals
The 4 composers all have so much love for this little pink bubble and I love them for it💖
