Ikr? In my old neighborhood, my neighbors always let their cats outside for way too long. They especially let them out in winter and in a storm. Almost everyday there, I would hear two cats fighting. Usually, it was the youngest female that birthed my youngest kitten at possibly not even 10 months old, and the oldest female who was probably 3 years old. They had a cat named Max who ran away as well, probably died from a fox/coyote/bear or died from old age. Possibly old age, he was 2 years old and he was gone for at least 10 years. They also had an extremely young, black kitten with no tail that the son stole from someone's house outside everyday. Everytime I went out there to feed the neighbor's cats, he would run up to me, shivering and would immediately sit on my lap, trying to be warm. Oh, and, my half-siblings and step-mother took two cats from my neighbors. One was very healthy, while the other.. was on the verge of death. Why, you ask? The neighbors didn't pay attention to the fact that the kitten was getting no milk and was covered head to tail in fleas and ticks. We tried to save the kitten but the day after my half-siblings and their mother tried to save the kitten, it died from enema and starvation. I don't think people scream as much in the middle of the night while fighting and humping. We have a handful of stray cats in our neighbourhood, and they do that often enough...though not as much this year, actually, so someone might have finally gone out to trap and neuter them. This island at night probably sounds like Hell on Earth. Plus they poop everywhere, carry disease, spray piss and kill the birds and other smaller animals. Properly cared-for indoor cats can be sweet, but strays are not the same. They just know that humans will give them food if they look soft enough, meow pleasantly and gently headbutt them instead of clawing and hissing. Their lives are probably relatively easy with the residents and visitors being elderly or cat fancying tourists, both of whom will give them food.

I saw several extremely emaciated cats, with eye goop, crust around their mouths, and sneezing those are not signs of healthy animals. I'm thinking upper respiratory, herpes, and bad teeth. Sadly, who knows what's going on with the skinny and severely matted ones I saw.
The location is highly isolated and the massive cat population started out with the same small gene pool, so all the cats are extremely inbred. This is why you see the very crooked, curly or stump tails. They most likely have very complicated genetic abnormalities and chronic health issues. The location doesn't have the infrastructure to support this population's health needs but based on the way you can see a lot of these cats have an ear clipped, that means that spay/neuter efforts have been implemented to try to lower the out of control cat population.

No, ear-tipping is just the tip. Here they've got like 1/3 of their ear missing so either it is done pretty badly, or it's all from fights.

I think you would want to leave once you got there. The place looks really cool in these videos, but the island is actually overpopulated with cats and many of them are not in very good shape.

I find it amazing that they're all just as clean as house cats. Whoever is spaying or neutering them all, thanks for making them safe to pet and trust people
They look a little scruffy but they are fed well and it doesn't look like anyone actually lives on the island, so someone's feeding them too. With this many cats the rodent and bird population would be wiped out Immediately and they wouldn't have food.

Imagine a cat fight. I bet it gets pretty darn loud there sometimes.
I don't think people scream as much in the middle of the night while fighting and humping. We have a handful of stray cats in our neighbourhood, and they do that often enough...though not as much this year, actually, so someone might have finally gone out to trap and neuter them. This island at night probably sounds like Hell on Earth. Plus they poop everywhere, carry disease, spray piss and kill the birds and other smaller animals.
Properly cared-for indoor cats can be sweet, but strays are not the same. They just know that humans will give them food if they look soft enough, meow pleasantly and gently headbutt them instead of clawing and hissing. Their lives are probably relatively easy with the residents and visitors being elderly or cat fancying tourists, both of whom will give them food.

I saw several extremely emaciated cats, with eye goop, crust around their mouths, and sneezing those are not signs of healthy animals. I'm thinking upper respiratory, herpes, and bad teeth. Sadly, who knows what's going on with the skinny and severely matted ones I saw.
The location is highly isolated and the massive cat population started out with the same small gene pool, so all the cats are extremely inbred. This is why you see the very crooked, curly or stump tails. They most likely have very complicated genetic abnormalities and chronic health issues. The location doesn't have the infrastructure to support this population's health needs but based on the way you can see a lot of these cats have an ear clipped, that means that spay/neuter efforts have been implemented to try to lower the out of control cat population.

They most likely are fed regularly by someone like a caretaker, none are anywhere near underfed, and since they know they will be fed normally they don't feel a need to fight over food like wild or outside cats would.
