I picked this game up a week ago and I can’t believe this game is this good
Agreed. At first I was feeling like it was really underwhelming but stuck with it and didn’t want to disown it only after 2 hours. I’m glad I didn’t because this game has gotten really fun and it was on me personally. I wasn’t using all the mechanics or moves I could which makes the game much more fun. Glad I stuck around
It’s an amazing game with great features! I was a huge fan of shadow of Mordor and just got back into playing Shadow of War. It has all the best mechanics of assassins creed mixed with the pure awesomeness of the LOTR universe. Anyone still looking to play this game a few years after launch will definitely enjoy the experience.

The game's really good, I've beaten it several times at this point. It didn't do so well on launch due to bugs and the controversial monetization it had for a single player game.

There is one thing the Overlord is very good at.
A Overlord will NEVER betray you.
So if you have a guy you like, but his blood brother is in your way, promote your guy to Overlord, and kill the Bloodbrother.
A Overlord won't care. And yes, I tried this some time ago. Sooo, there is a chance that has changed, but I don't see why.
Warchiefs are also less likely to betray you, not impossible just less likely.
Kill a warchiefs blood brother, he will betray you.
So basically, the guy you DON'T want to lose, put as Overlord, if you lose a fort he will be taken hostage, but you can easily save him.
And other guys you like as warchiefs.
Oh, and yes Graugs are tanky, but they can still be one hit by captains with Beast slayer.

Like on my last save, I went to die to "The Warlock" orc because he always becomes a Necromancer at higher lvls.
But he was like lvl 13 or something, I was like 40. So I wanted to give him a boost before I dominated him.
Aaaaand a random orc came and saved me and killed him!
I like having Necromancer orcs!
You missed one important fact that helps especially with the shadow wars. You should place body guards on your warchiefs or else any orc you have that isn't a war chief won't help defend. Having 6 lvl 55+ warchiefs with 3-4 body guards each dominates any attacking orcs.
Only 2 bodyguards will ever show up in an online conquest per warchief, no matter what you do.
Factor Fitness bodyguards of your orcs don’t appear at all when you’re attacking since the attacking orcs don’t have to be warchiefs, so it’s be pretty weird having a captain be the bodyguard of another captain
I was referring to when your fortress is attacked. The post above said that a warchief with 3-4 bodyguards would dominate - but that's not possible.

The Overlord actually joins the fight when you defend the last point. You could have checked that.

I just got Shadow of War a few days ago and I absolutely love it. I’m glad I watched this video because I have yet to gain the ability to dominate captains (I spend far too much time hunting down regular captains for fun), and so it’s good to know about the Overlord and Warchief drawbacks when it comes to taking and defending strongholds.

The best way to get strong orcs is in the fight pits. Even if you're orc loses you can just recruit the orc that won and repeat the same process. Btw your orcs will never get a higher level than you at any case. P.s. Don't just kill lengendary orc for thier gear. They can actually be unstoppable. It just depends on its stats if he has trash stats then you can kill him. I hope this helped

I'm currently downloading Shadow of War since it's free on PS Plus. I played SoW back in 2019 & I remember how excellent of a game it was. The nemesis system is like nothing I've ever seen in a game.

As far as the first tip. You do want to use powerful orcs for warchiefs and overlord to better defend the fortress against online attacks
I've seen this video late and spent loads of the in game currency on orc chest I'm only a level 31 is it worth scrapping all the people and getting my money back and what do you do with them once I've purchased them

You can also place spies on the overlord to have them betray and fight by your side to defeat the overlord if fighting alone is a bit difficult but you'll have to run them through fight pits for infiltration to work

I got betrayed doing an experiment. I had a Blood Brother as my bodyguard and went after the other brother...I was just wondering what would happen....It seemed my bodyguard mainly ignored his brother and focused on the grunts...So I had more time to get to his brother. Then after I won he betrayed me...But I was surprised he didn't betray me as soon as I started fighting his brother. I just wanted to see what would happen.

When I bought my PS4 Pro the shop gave me Shadow of War right away as promotion I haven't play until I watch Rings of Power. That series motivated me to play both Shadow Saga plus Shadow of Mordor just discounted so I bought it right away and play the game chronologically.
For the first tip, when you say slot the weakest captains into the warchief slot, does that mean the same thing as the siege captains? Because if so, I would die before even getting to the overlord because I have weak captains defending me while I get the zones. And also, how would I be able to use my powerful captains if they aren’t in the warchief position?
So do you loose any war chiefs if you loose a defense mission? Or just a chance to loose the overlord?

If you purchase war chests prior to level 40 or whenever you want to open it the loot will scale to your level at the point you open it at. If a discount comes up buy a ton of war chests then open them later. Make sure to hit purchase to confirm instead of purchase and open.

Yeah I’m on stage 10 and it’s a lot easier but the thing about stage 10 is u have to defend all 4 and u have plenty of time to prep I would suggest going to the fight pits to level them up and put other orcs as ur captains body guards because that adds them to help them
I will never buy a war chest. It just ruins the experience for me. The strength of this game is the relationships it creates with captains, making the feel real in a world that feels real but when orcs become ordinary loot doesn't ruin the connection with them? War chest just make the game less fun. The best experience possible with SoW is when not using the market at all.
Silver chest are okay I only use them for level ups or buffs and the odd super cool captain this one has less of a bond with captains than the first to me so I don't mind .
I really use it for training orders only

New players if you are reading this half of this video is out of date.
Reasons being the online store for the game at some point they removed war chests and gold currency meaning you can no longer buy bonuses and orcs from the store the only remaining in game currency is mierien mostly because without it you can't upgrade your army and your fort so they kept that. Also the maximum level cap is 80 now.
@luxas Well there is alot that I know about some of it most veteran players know about and even most veterans are still learning about some of these tricks.
Lesson 1. Always take advantage of experience bonuses. Always have the best possible wealth gems equipped to your armor and cloak if you have 2 perfect wealth gems equipped you will get a 30% experience bonus but if you haven't already done this sign up with that thing in the main menu I think it's called WB Play if you sign in with the email used for your account it will give you a permenant 3% exp bonus totaling the experience bonus to 33% believe me this makes a huge difference. I max leveled in 1 month mostly because I played on separate times so for you I you played 24/7 every so many days you will probably max in less then 3 weeks.
Lesson 2. Don't Spend Mierrien on uruk levels unless absolutely necessary. If you Want to level up uruks to your level fast if said uruk is already an enemy and you want him let him kill you one time it will instantly level him up to the amount of levels that your currently at but please note this also may make them 1 to 2 levels higher then you this can be scary if your level 80 because anything past level 80 can instant kill you so if you can wear him down till your able to shame him.
Lesson 3. If your luck own that great in the fightpits close the application before your uruk dies this will save your uruk from dieing this also works in the online fightpits so if you want to farm legendary uruks this may be the fastest way but it's the most painful and boring method because I have had one of my uruks nearly lose 20 times because of legendary uruks he is currently facing. Also please note legendary uruks and ologs have higher chances of surviving most difficult battles.
Lesson 3. This one is a common answer alot of people know. Always invest in legendary Uruks and ologs if you want to get your entire army legendary invest in ether the online fightpits or this or you could start farming offline fightpits with your strongest uruk/olog yes you reduce your chances of getting good uruks but you will be able to farm mierien because as soon as an enemy uruk dies he drops gear you should scrap any gear you get this is faster then finding treasure uruks out in the field and it gives you an average 400 to 900 mierien per gear based on how rare the gear is. Legendary gear I only ever recommend scrapping if you have spare copies of your gear so if you get a new copies of your legendary gear only keep it if it's level is higher then your legendary gear. Then scrap your old legendary gear if you do this it will make anywhere from 1500 to 2000 mierien.
If possible invest in the marauder tribe and get the raiders armor from the Marauder uruks and ologs. The raiders armor not only helps you get mierien at a much faster rate then scraping gear it also boosts the amount of damage you will do for every 1 mierien you pick up so 10 mierien would boost your weapon by 10 damage and at my level and weapons being the same level if not better I actually tested this theory by the way. I found a slave spawn glitch in a world so I was sitting there killing uruks and farming mierien anyway a treasure olog spawned so I killed it then picked up the mierien while I had the full set of raider armor on I 1 hit killed slaves and ologs alike. So I spawned my graug to test how much damage it would do and to my shock I killed my graug in 4 hits with just my sword. I know this armor is ungodly overpowered. So I highly recommend investing in getting the full set of this armor.
Lesson 4. Take advantage of the lessons of trial and error meaning if your fighting an uruk that is very very hard to kill or capture that uruk try everything you can ever possibly think of like if he is frost proof but not fire proof use fire but if he is immune to virtually everything accept arrows then use arrows. Also I have learned that if you use an ability called shadow pull use it often on enemy's who don't have Ranged proof. This can some times glitch and might work on them anyway.
Lesson 5. Pay attention to the movement patterns of each tribe and class this will help you avoid the more scary moves each uruk will throw at you.
Lesson 5. Don't die too often if you die multiple times in the same region it may result in one of your uruks or ologs to betray you because of not wanting to serve a weak leader I had this happen to me once and I never let my self be defeated in fights ever again.
Lesson 6. Always make sure you don't have a full army in your region. Meaning Don't have too many branded orcs in the same place as this will trigger a rebellion encounter and believe me this is something you really don't want to happen as it will happen at the worst possible time like if your in the middle of a tough fight against an enemy that is hard to kill. The reason is because a rebellion van be anything from 1 to 4 uruks and ologs betraying you at the same time turning that 1v1 fight into a 1v4-5 fight which isn't pretty. If this happens Run! then try to isolate the weakest members of the rebellion then brand them or shame them depending on if they have the iron will trait. Do this with shadow pull like I said before it helps make sure you have a 1v1 fight without having to fight an army of orc cannon fodder.
Lesson 7. Don't Kill Uruks/Ologs that betray you it is possible to save them. If 5hey have the "Iron Will" trait then shame them then find them and check there stats and if they still have that trait then make sure to keep shaming them until that stat is gone once it is gone ether brand them or let them kill you then brand them after their level matched yours.
Lesson 8. Beware of Shaming. Shaming though useful in capturing an enemy or if you want a weak uruk for a fightpit you want to lose to make an uruk spawn in your world can also backfire. There is a small chance the uruk/olog will turn into a maniac. This is pretty rare even with the ability to increase how many levels they lose when shamed but it slightly increases the chance they turn into a maniac. Maniacs have a huge damage boost and defence boost. And they attack more frequently meaning it reduces the time it takes for them to attack after they already swung there weapon. For example it normally takes 1 to 2 seconds for a normal uruk captain to strike before waiting another 2 or so seconds but when enraged they only take half that amount of time for attacks so they will strike one after another in a rapid combo of normal and special attacks. This can be scary when against enemy's like hunters or Assasins or berserkers the same can be said for ologs.
Lesson 9. Don't use enraged by everything in your fort defence when they are assigned to guard your overlord there is a huge chance they will start attacking your own overlord or bodyguards when enraged this won't be much of a problem if they are body guards of warchiefs so if the enemy and there army reach a checkpoint and if he gets enraged he won't attack his allies as much because of having plenty of enemy's to swing at.
Lesson 10. Don't use just any uruk as an overlord. The reason being a common strategy I and many veteran players use is using Shadow pull to isolate the overlord from his body guards. What I recommend is using Ologs as they are too big for shadow pull to work that or use assassins as the overlord as they commonly have he arrow proof trait.
Lesson 11. If you want to win alot in siege defence against players use Assasins often more preferably Arrow proof Assasins. Assasins are very Very hard to kill. And they may make the attacker lose a few of his uruks and ologs as he won't be able to get close enough to revive them without being insta-killed. That and Assasins ruin the purpose of having extra chances/lives as it takes only 1 chance for an Assasin to kill a player as they always have the "No Chance" Trait. I actually have an all Assasin dark tribe fort at the moment and as far as I have had it no one has ever challenged my fort ever. One last thing about this. Assasins are also great for stalling the enemy as they won't be able to get silver even if they do some how win. Believe me this type of army always makes you want to pull your hair out after fighting it.
Lesson 12. Don't assign bodyguards who get enraged at the sight of a rival or if they also have the trait for fleeing at the site of certain uruks this will always result in losing ether the warchief or the body guard. As with the enraged by rival if the rival is your warchief you assigned him to he will kill that warchief.
Lesson 13. Send uruks to the garrison if they have the enraged by rival trait as if there rival is in your army he will kill the rival both in siege and in open world because while they are inside your fort there is the chance they will wonder across their rival while you are wondering around the fort. Please note there is a chance you can remove this stat by sending him to the garrison then re-deploying him. Also for future reference uruks will always get this stat if they fight the same uruk more then 3 times this can happen if you bring them as a body guard or if you send them to kill an enemy uruk This can mainly happen if you make the enemy uruk flee so if he survives every time this will give ether uruk the enraged by rival or the flees in sight of your uruks or him.
Other then that. That's mostly everything I know but if there is anything else you want to know then feel free to ask I might have the answer for it.

The raiders armor not only helps you get mierien at a much faster rate then scraping gear it also boosts the amount of damage you will do for every 1 mierien you pick up so 10 mierien would boost your weapon by 10 damage and at my level and weapons being the same level if not better I actually tested this theory by the way. I found a slave spawn glitch in a world so I was sitting there killing uruks and farming mierien anyway a treasure olog spawned so I killed it then picked up the mierien while I had the full set of raider armor on I 1 hit killed slaves and ologs alike. So I spawned my graug to test how much damage it would do and to my shock I killed my graug in 4 hits with just my sword. I know this armor is ungodly overpowered. So I highly recommend investing in getting the full set of this armor.
Lesson 4. Take advantage of the lessons of trial and error meaning if your fighting an uruk that is very very hard to kill or capture that uruk try everything you can ever possibly think of like if he is frost proof but not fire proof use fire but if he is immune to virtually everything accept arrows then use arrows. Also I have learned that if you use an ability called shadow pull use it often on enemy's who don't have Ranged proof. This can some times glitch and might work on them anyway.
Lesson 5. Pay attention to the movement patterns of each tribe and class this will help you avoid the more scary moves each uruk will throw at you.
Lesson 5. Don't die too often if you die multiple times in the same region it may result in one of your uruks or ologs to betray you because of not wanting to serve a weak leader I had this happen to me once and I never let my self be defeated in fights ever again.
Lesson 6. Always make sure you don't have a full army in your region. Meaning Don't have too many branded orcs in the same place as this will trigger a rebellion encounter and believe me this is something you really don't want to happen as it will happen at the worst possible time like if your in the middle of a tough fight against an enemy that is hard to kill. The reason is because a rebellion van be anything from 1 to 4 uruks and ologs betraying you at the same time turning that 1v1 fight into a 1v4-5 fight which isn't pretty. If this happens Run! then try to isolate the weakest members of the rebellion then brand them or shame them depending on if they have the iron will trait. Do this with shadow pull like I said before it helps make sure you have a 1v1 fight without having to fight an army of orc cannon fodder.
Lesson 7. Don't Kill Uruks/Ologs that betray you it is possible to save them. If 5hey have the "Iron Will" trait then shame them then find them and check there stats and if they still have that trait then make sure to keep shaming them until that stat is gone once it is gone ether brand them or let them kill you then brand them after their level matched yours.
Lesson 8. Beware of Shaming. Shaming though useful in capturing an enemy or if you want a weak uruk for a fightpit you want to lose to make an uruk spawn in your world can also backfire. There is a small chance the uruk/olog will turn into a maniac. This is pretty rare even with the ability to increase how many levels they lose when shamed but it slightly increases the chance they turn into a maniac. Maniacs have a huge damage boost and defence boost. And they attack more frequently meaning it reduces the time it takes for them to attack after they already swung there weapon. For example it normally takes 1 to 2 seconds for a normal uruk captain to strike before waiting another 2 or so seconds but when enraged they only take half that amount of time for attacks so they will strike one after another in a rapid combo of normal and special attacks. This can be scary when against enemy's like hunters or Assasins or berserkers the same can be said for ologs.
Lesson 9. Don't use enraged by everything in your fort defence when they are assigned to guard your overlord there is a huge chance they will start attacking your own overlord or bodyguards when enraged this won't be much of a problem if they are body guards of warchiefs so if the enemy and there army reach a checkpoint and if he gets enraged he won't attack his allies as much because of having plenty of enemy's to swing at.
Lesson 10. Don't use just any uruk as an overlord. The reason being a common strategy I and many veteran players use is using Shadow pull to isolate the overlord from his body guards. What I recommend is using Ologs as they are too big for shadow pull to work that or use assassins as the overlord as they commonly have he arrow proof trait.
Lesson 11. If you want to win alot in siege defence against players use Assasins often more preferably Arrow proof Assasins. Assasins are very Very hard to kill. And they may make the attacker lose a few of his uruks and ologs as he won't be able to get close enough to revive them without being insta-killed. That and Assasins ruin the purpose of having extra chances/lives as it takes only 1 chance for an Assasin to kill a player as they always have the "No Chance" Trait. I actually have an all Assasin dark tribe fort at the moment and as far as I have had it no one has ever challenged my fort ever. One last thing about this. Assasins are also great for stalling the enemy as they won't be able to get silver even if they do some how win. Believe me this type of army always makes you want to pull your hair out after fighting it.
Lesson 12. Don't assign bodyguards who get enraged at the sight of a rival or if they also have the trait for fleeing at the site of certain uruks this will always result in losing ether the warchief or the body guard. As with the enraged by rival if the rival is your warchief you assigned him to he will kill that warchief.
Lesson 13. Send uruks to the garrison if they have the enraged by rival trait as if there rival is in your army he will kill the rival both in siege and in open world because while they are inside your fort there is the chance they will wonder across their rival while you are wondering around the fort. Please note there is a chance you can remove this stat by sending him to the garrison then re-deploying him. Also for future reference uruks will always get this stat if they fight the same uruk more then 3 times this can happen if you bring them as a body guard or if you send them to kill an enemy uruk This can mainly happen if you make the enemy uruk flee so if he survives every time this will give ether uruk the enraged by rival or the flees in sight of your uruks or him.
Other then that. That's mostly everything I know but if there is anything else you want to know then feel free to ask I might have the answer for it.

I love this game. I have an epic poison blade that is level 6 and I can't bare to use anything else because the stats and insane crit chances out performs any other blade I've encountered so far and I'm level 30. I will say that I've had one Uruk come back from the dead 8 times to seek revenge on me lol.
