As an indian i can confirm this car is not value for money, out dated but we still love it for many reasons 1- its a gangster/ politicians car normal people buy it to feel superior 2- reliability, very reliable engine and low maintenance cost 3- size and build, it can hit other vehicles out of way if situation demands 4- resale value its resale value is very good due to fan following and diesel cars older than 10 years are banned in india. So we need to sell cars every 5-7 years to get good resale value 5 - last on is because every car is expensive and overpriced in india due to heavy taxes so we literally don't care if its value for money or not because honestly no car is value for money

Each to it's own, I have a new Crusade and it meets our needs 100%. Is it a smooth city dweller? No, even our 9yr old hatchback drives better. But when it comes to off-roading, it doesnt stand back at all. Stacking up against Prado's, Pajero Sports and other 4x4 utes, I can do everything they can do, even with stock HT tyres.
My new Crusade is on the ship to Australia at the moment & I cannot wait to take delivery. Our FJ Cruiser trade in is 11 yrs old with 180k in the clock without a $ spent on repairs,hope the Fortuna is as good.

These are great value, and they are tried and tested tech. They are ultra basic, rather cramped, slow, and they don't handle great on the road. But they are still good value, they are reliable as hell, and are capable off road. It's almost pointless to talk about the onroad handling as you don't buy a Fortuner for that, it's a slow family hauler, a weekend off roader, and just perfect at that.... Except for it not being that spacious, I do find it cramped inside.

Only reason Fortuner is selling in India is that its got no competition, previously Endeavour (Everest in Australia) use to compete with this was considered better choice but Ford during corona time quite India in a knee jerk reaction. We also get Old MU-X but due to nonexistent dealers & lack of feature for price it never took off.

Great Review as always. Toyota fortuner upgrades are like iphonse upgrades. Every year it gets better than their own previous version however if you look at industry standards everyone else is miles ahead in technology and innovation. But just like iPhone users true Toyota Fanboys would ignore all that and be happy with mediocrity because of its reliability.
I'm not in the Indian mafia but I actually find it strangely charming. And I'd happily drive a 10 year old one around Australia, which is something I couldn't say about most of its competitors.

in pakistan this is the most popular 7 seater SUV in this price range. The head unit is not great but no one here uses those more then BT Music and most others are worse. Lanekeep and ACC aren’t even in the pk models because there just aren’t lane markings in most places and many people dont know about the existence of even normal cruise control (also no car is a value for its price here, due to the insane taxes). Otherwise this is a solid option over the ONLY other competitor, the Changan Oshan X7, in engine power, the brand name .etc (except maybe tech) we need more options here xD
As much as I live Toyota, this isn’t it, we got a an Everest 2019 that we replaced our Yaris 2012 with great car. But the Everest has so much more features then if we got the Fortuner. Id rather spend the extra couple grand and get the next gen Everest’s many more features.
