- blurb from the manufactures
the Minolta Dynax 8000i, also sold as Maxxum 8000i for the North-American market and as the α-8700i for the Asia/Pacific market, was launched as an improved version of Minolta Dynax 7000i. Both 8000i and 7000i share a lot of common features. The main improvements over the 7000i are:
faster maximum shutter speed, 1/8000 (vs. 1/4000 for the 7000i)
faster flash synch speed, 1/200 (vs. 1/125 for the 7000i)
high-eyepoint viewfinder
improved LCD screen

Love this camera. Its my first and currently only film camera. Got super lucky as i originally wanted to get the 7000i but the seller found out the lcd had a defect and sold me his 8000i instead.
I've been using the sony A mount cameras and its been perfect to use my existing lens on this film body.
Also like your homely video feel/style👍
The LCD screens are a bit of a weak point on these camera they sometimes bleed of just die ...glad you got a working one they are great to use and very under rated
The chrome connector is a PC-port for use with studio flashes
That's my better Minolta film SLR in the 90s up to now. Started with 5000i with kit then with the Secret Handshake. You change the function by pressing the FUNC button & the LR toggle selector. The P button is a great relief to undo previous customization which is lacking in all my later cameras digital or otherwise. The SPOT button is for spot metering but with the Spot Metering Card, it is used to select up to 9 selected spot area for averaging. Yeah, great camera with a bright viewfinder.
Thanks for sharing quick details in description on differences between 7000i and 8000i. Right now I have 7000i but there is this really tempting price for 8000i that is just hard to resist so I am looking for any major differences :D
The main difference is the 8000i has a different shutter box giving it a top shutter speed of 1/8000 over the 7000i which is 1/4000 ….both very capable cameras …if you do get a 8000i make sure you check for LCD bleed on it they we prone to it
@@28allday 8000i also had problem with lcd bleed? that's good to know. My first pick was 7000 model, but they had problem with lcd bleed to so instead I bought the 7000i which didn't have that problem, or at least not the model when I was buying it.
Oh I remember the commercials for the talking camera. "Too dark use flash."
I think that advert is on UA-cam somewhere Ha!
The "spot" button is for spot metering, not focusing.
Hie I have the dynax 5 xi and I want to know where can I get the 5 flash cards missing for portrait..landscape..sport...?
You need to have a hunt on eBay
