The film definitely would have had a different aesthetic if Michael Bay stuck with Bumblebee's original G1 design, and had Sam driving his girlfriend and himself around in a Volkswagen bug (in 2007...). It would have been a *dead* giveaway that they were hiding something, and the interactions probably would have been different (figuratively speaking; cars do not transform into giant robots..).
