Hello, I had the great pleasure of working on Polar Onyx on your 1st contract. I was the Radio Operator of this Ship in Brazilian waters. I can say that throughout my Career I waited for a moment like this and he arrived with the "Onyx". Today I miss you so much, I miss all those who worked with me at that time, but I can tell you that I have never forgotten the "Onyx", There is not a single day that I do not think of being back on your bridge, proud to be a part contract. Wherever you are "Onyx" goes my hug to the unforgettable Ship of the 7 seas that Ulsten and her engineers have created.

Why so luxurius ? To do the best for custumers and employee of the service companies.
To keep her in best condition for years. Good installation is the first step for a good team spirit, the best safety and also for the success of operations
In the past, I spent months on shame installations.
    Congratulations Ulstein!
    An old Oilman.

so many bosses fail to realize that when employees have a good work environment and are happy, they're much more likely to do a good job, be prideful, make you happy, which makes them happy, do extra, produce more, feel good about it, make you more money, make more money themselblahblah. have had several bosses think that yelling at people would make them work harder and want to help them out. seems all that is good for is high turnover and undertrained employees- doing a crappy job, making customers angry, losing customers, business makes less money, can't afford to pay anybody worth a damn, has crappier employees, loses customeblahblah.. glad to see this company doing it right.

Good lord, is that a working ship, or just a gigantic house boat?! I would LOVE to work on such a vessel, especially with that X-bow design. Beautiful work, guys!

Building the superstructure in sections on dry land and then assembling them at the last moment has revolutionized shipbuilding. You no longer have to tie up the dock for long periods of time.

Still amazed every time I see a ship being put together like a giant jigsaw puzzle...
Or, to use a different example, the way a lego model is put together is very similar too. (just less welding. XD)
You build a whole heap of sub-assemblies, then attach them together...
Kinda crazy to think that what applies at the miniature scale kind of still applies at life-size scale...

      @KuraIthys 5 років тому

Yeah... I was looking at those interior shots and thinking 'this IS a working ship, right? and not some peculiar passenger vessel?'
      XD
Not that there's anything wrong with the crew facilities being nice, it's just...
Not what you think of when it comes to a ship like this...

Great to see that conditions on board for the Crew's whose temporary home this is are to a high standard.
Everyone aboard this vessel is a professional in their own right whom will be working hard irrespective of the sea state and weather conditions, so to have given considerable forethought to their living conditions and environment will make their lives and work better.
Investing in one's people is a great strategy because they are your greatest asset, and happy, well fed, well rested people perform better!
Vessels such as this mark a great step forward both in marine design and offshore living standards.
    Very well done!

LOL! If you’ve ever been on a cruise, after a few days your body adjusts and you are fine. These vessels are for long exploration, or are “working” vessels. Once accustomed to the sea it’s more about providing space for the crew to live their lives while working (stuck) on the ship. I’ve never spent more than three weeks at sea at a time, on a regular basis. All I know is you grow antsy, irritated, unhappy, bored after a while. You’re there to do a job and you are still human. You need distractions. This ship looks great to me, LOL!

As far as my own limited naval experience goes so far, people typically muster on ships for 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off, and continue this way of life until they eventually quit. That means half their time is spent on a ship, so might as well make it as livable as possible.
