Hi Dr Wu - thanks so much for this lesson! I am a skier and going for 3 weeks when I developed a lot of pain in the muscle discussed. I tried all sorts of ointments but without much improvement. SO when I did a quick anatomy lesson I found your lesson and when I performed your operation there was an explosion of pain that went all the way to my toes and then ... relief! Thanks!
Thank you!! I could feel an instant shot of pain from the movements, but the release afterwards was worth it. I know I'm targeting the exact source my ongoing throbbing pain. I will continue to do this as relief and therapy for the strain.
Hi Dr Wu, I'm learning a lot about the body :) I was on my feet in the trades a lot intermittently over the last 4 years and more recently I started hiking a lot. I think I sprained my ankle about a year ago, but it wasn't clear that thats what I did. I've been having ankle pain that moves around my ankle, but I think the tendon of the digitorum longus gets really inflamed when I hike. I've done ankle theraband inversion/eversion work and strengthened my glute medius a ton. Also drastically opened up both my hips. I'm just today learning a lot more about the ankle tendons: I did work on the posterior fib and have pretty much recovered from mild plantar fasciatis. I've just done the smash in the video. My question is related to all this but kind of specific: How do I find good footwear and a (hopefully) short term orthodic for arch support? I find that when I go to shoe stores the person there is a salesman, and just wants to sell me a shoe...they are all infuriatingly confident and I think the majority of them just want to make a sale. *my major issue is that I have an extremely wide toe box...like 4E...but the heel is pretty normal width. I'm in shape and not overweight. Asics used to make a running shoe that fit my foot but discontinued it...and I also think its too much padding for normal use...like the over-cushyness makes my stabilizers work overtime. Keen makes pretty wide boots, I could see myself in another pair but they aren't very rigid... I'd love to see a podiatrist but I don't think I could afford to. This is a long post, sorry. Thanks so much for your video! Matt
Thank you so much for this video. After every soccer game, the lateral side of my lower legs get cramped up so badly that I can't flex my foot upward (Dorsiflexion, I think?). The lower, lateral side of my lower legs, which I'm guessing is the extensor digitorum longus after watching this video, go completely numb and harden like concrete. I've had it pretty much my whole life. After soccer, jogging, sometimes even walking. I've mistaken it as shin splints until now. I'm trying to locate the source of this strain. Do you think that over-tightening shoelaces could cause this? Could stiff calf muscles be overloading the stress on extensor digitorum longus as well? I really appreciate your help in advance. Your video was super helpful. Thnx!
Wrap your feet with a point ankle weight, sit down on a chair and pull your toes towards you for 15 - 20 seconds. Repeat 6 times and do it everyday if you can, min 3 times a week.
This really helped, Thank you very much!

Thank you 🙏. This really helped me to locate the pain . I can walk for over an hour. But running for 1 min hurts this muscle.
Pls do a video on retro calacaneal bursitis

I am older and this exercise is hard for me to balance myself on the floor. Do you have another exercise?
Good stuff, I am a trainer and I have been dealing with some of this stuff recently and this helped out quite a bit.
You're welcome! If you are ever in Dallas, come on and visit!
Good tip!

yeah after football i have a very bad pain in this area of the leg too. gonna take physiotherapy for a while
what do I do for chronic plantar fascitis..I do lot of kick boxing..I also roll a tennis ball under my plantar surface..but yet it's back
You should get your foot evaluated to see if it really is plantar. It could be many other things that could be causing your foot pain.
What exercise can I do to strengthen that muscle
I'm having problems lifting my toes/foot
Wrap your feet with a point ankle weight, sit down on a chair and pull your toes towards you for 15 - 20 seconds. Repeat 6 times and do it everyday if you can, min 3 times a week.
This muscle is very aesthetic 😄
Manuel Dr. Wu is pretty jacked ! 💪🏼
