I agree with you. I am two years younger to you. We did not have money to buy kumudam. I used to run to shop, purchase kumudam, kalki for one old colleague of my father, read the book in his house and return home.

Just want to add. While in ponniyin selvan, I am able to remember most of the characters for long time, in Candilyans storiesI am able to recollect only hero/ heroine character names. However I did read his historicL novels many times in Avadi/ royapettah libraries many times.

Kalki is no where close to the great Sandilyan, his extraordinary way of narration especially in a fighting sequence or romance is an example! If Sandilyan had written Ponniyin Selvan it would have been one of the world class historical novels! Kalki had poor control of characters and gradually he himself had lost the interest of the story!

Have great respects for Sandilyan... however comparing him with Kalki and stating that he's nowhere close to Sandilyan & adding that Kalki had poor control of characters is all heights & unacceptable....Ponniyin Selvan still occupies the No.1 slot amongst Tamil historical novels (as per
book fair stats)..don't compare these legends... It's unfair..both are unique.. it's Kalki who started writing historical novels much before Sandilyan...

@@esveyenmay6769 stereotypical thinking, Sandilyan was extremely talented and better storyteller than Kalki! 1st 2 parts of ponniyin selvan really interesting but other parts are boring with too much of repetitions and poor control of characters!

Kalkid writing was appreciated by all and appealed to all while chandilyan was popular with youngsters. Their styles were different and no need to compare.
Will any producer go for producing yavana rani with karikal valavan and ilnchey chenni being part of the story.
