- Let's unbox my new Fender Player Stratocaster HSS Maple Fingerboard Limited-Edition in Sonic Blue from Guitar Center. What do you think about the pickguard, black or white?
I feel like the squire box was a crime
Great Guitar Center advertisement !!! Well if you"re undecided for the next 45 days, don't peel the film off the pickguard. Did that myself years ago and was told it was unreturnable. Your video alone is proof of Guitar Center's business practices. I've said it a hundred times that going to a GC is like going to a dusty pawn shop.
I took the plastic off. No package has showed up yet so it may go back. Last guitar I returned to the store, they bever even took it out of the box to look at it.
I can say this is exactly what GC does most of the time. When you place an internet order, they'll find one in their system at a store, on the salesfloor or not, and send it to you.
Yup and now since GC owns Musicians Friend, if you order from MF they will pull it off a GC wall and ship it to you. Had this happen with a new Charvel I bought from MF.
I had a Guitar Center sales person tell me they had to sell what is on the wall regardless how many they had in the back. The guitar I was looking at had a small dent and a messy binding, I just wanted to pick out a nicer guitar from the back. He refused. I have not been to Guitar Center since, that was 2016.
I had the opposite happen with an acoustic guitar. I wanted the floor model and they said they were gonna grab one from the back but I persisted.
@@gavendelrio9193I can see that happening, if the guitar feels right, it just feels right.
Bought a brand new Gibson from a UK guitar centre, custom shop model.WOW was I disappointed , selector switch broken, case hinge was broken.A real mess. Contacted the shop and they said that was how it must have arrived from the factory !!I blew my top!
Ive had similar with guitar shops in the uk
I just went through the same thing. They wouldn't do any kind of discount for it being a floor model either. I ended up sending returning it and they shipped a new in box from another store.
I had the same experience with GC with a keyboard and microphone. Both were supposed to be brand new. The keyboard was the floor model and the microphone had already been returned once and then sent back out. I got a 10% discount after I called them and expressed my dissatisfaction with my purchase. Last time I’ll use GC ✌️🤘
One word (two words?): Sweetwater.
I know. I bought a player strat from Sweetwater last year. Whole different experience!
This is the exact reason I stopped buying from Guitar Center.
Never buy a guitar sight unseen! You try them out and choose!
I have not bought a guitar off the wall in 20 years. No music stores within 40 miles from me and they are all guitar centers. None of them had this model in the store anyway.
I ordered a gretsch 7 piece drum kit fro GC once, I had to send it back, not only was it the wrong color, but the boxes looked like they were kicked around for 2 years before they packed anything in it, all broke open broke through, drum heads roughed up, never bought from GC again, bought all my guitars from sweetwater or fender
This is probably one of the guitars in the stores. I don't know why you just don't go directly to fender, the same price
Guitar Center exclusive.
It’s a demo, should of been discounted
They were on sale, but listed as new. No mention of floor model, demo ect.
Bummer... I bought a Squier Tele from GC a year or two ago. It was backordered so I waited, and waited and waited. After they started showing back up on their site, I called to ask when my backordered Tele was going to be shipped.
A few days later, I got a shop worn guitar shipped in a Squier Strat box. It was scuffed and dented with fret sprout, etc. I doubt that they sent tools with that one either. As you said "Back it goes".
You're lucky that you got someone one the phone who cares. I've had that experience, but I've also had the overseas robot that reads from the script and wants to get on to the next call for their metrics!
Current pricing on MIM Fenders makes my head spin...I'm still remembering the days when a MIM Strat was $300 everywhere, all day long. Even the fancy ones were less than $400. Such is life I guess.
I bought the 40th anniversary squire in sonic blue, but returned it. I probably should have kept it. Now I see they are 400, I think I paid 299 when it first came out.The Player series is not much better if any.
Call the guitar center. They had no inventory. They said none of them have what I want. I just called fender they had in stock directly from the company. No problems. I think guitar center is hurting and then it didn't have enough money to restockt there stores
Fender does special runs for retailers. This was one for GC.
Only reason I could believe, if the original box was busted up from the factory for the squire box. But the hang tags not in place is a sure floor model/return. Terrible QC from GC! That's why they are on their last leg yet again. Def. a return, you'll always have regret for it.
I bought a New Gibson acoustic guitar at GC .it came in a Martin shipping box ..The hard shell case had a deep cut in it
And The guitar Itself was cracked …I returned it my self to a GC not to far from me for a refund
No one seamed to care .Didn’t even ask if I wanted a replacement…just refunded my payment
I bought on e of these a year ago. Sorry you had a bad experience. I bought mine off the showroom so I knew what I was getting. I have lots of issues even so. Tuning sucks, plastic nut needs replaced, and it needs locking tuners and a rolling string tree. I got so pissed with it I bought a couple Jacksons that blow it out of the water. Fender needs to get their shit together. I like the guitar so I'll do all the up grades and a David Gilmore EMG prewired set. At this price though you should be getting a lot more for your money.
I bought an inexpensive Jackson recently and it is amazing for the price! I should make a video on it
I didn't know that fingerprints on a guitar would affect the tone but there you have it.
Who said that? 😆
Selling a used product for new, and charging you for new, is fraud. They did that to me. A floor model thats been handled by hundreds of people should be heavily discounted. I only buy from Sweetwater because I know Im getting something new and they stand by their products.
Bought a Donner standard series Strat built by a local guitar builder from a kit, using pickups he made himself(yeah, a C-19 lockdown thing) for 100$. Brand names mean NADA.
couldn't have said it better
it was a squier box, i wouldnt even have opened it
That sucks, no case candy, no strap, employees do not get paid enough to care, it’s a nice looking guitar.
True. Who takes a dirty guitar off the wall and ships it out without the accessories? It would have taken 30 seconds to wipe it down. You have to give zero cares to do that.
@@chrisodonnell3776 I'm not even sure that they keep, much less keep track of the packet with the wrenches, trem bar, etc. that are supposed to come with a new instrument.
Nice guitar, but shame on you Guitar Center. The unboxing experience should not frustrate the purchaser. Nice guitar 'tho. I like the black pickguard look, so if there are no dings in it and after you take a polishing cloth to shine it up, if its a sparkling work of art then I would keep it if that's what you wanted. I hope GC sends you the kit they promised. Are you going to give us a sample of how it sounds? What amp will you be playing this with? Thanks for posting.
I will do a sound demo. Not sure what I'll use. I have a Mesa Mark IV, a Splawn Quick Rod, a Soldano mini and a Fractal FM3 here. Any preferences?
@@chrisodonnell3776 The Splawn!
That pick guard!!!! Look a all those scratches!!!!😮😮😮😮😮 Sorry you had such a bad experience! Tommy " The Sales guy" should have given you a free Fender guitar case and $100 gift card or something!!!! Thats what I would have done !!!! ( I would probably get fired from Guitar Center for being generous and so customer friendly) I work in retail so I deal with customers 😮 on a regular basis.
This is ridiculous. I’m mad for you. I would return it and never go back
Ok, Yes Guitar Center didn't do a very good job packing that Strat. The pickguard really isn't scratched up (peel the plastic cover over the pickguard and you will find it in good shape. I would make them send you a Fender Gig Bag as that guitar comes with one new.
I did say that there was plastic film over the pickguard. Unfortunately the Fender Player Series Stratocaster does not come with a gig bag. I bought a different one from Sweetwater (Much better experience) but that did not come with a gig bag either.
If your happy that's all that counts!@@chrisodonnell3776
Speaking as a guitar tech, there is no way in gods green earth I would ever return any guitar in this dreadful condition.
I bought a Gibson Les Paul from GC in NYC and the Outer box was thrown away most of the workers are all wanna be rockstars and its run like crap ... Its a shame cause they have such a nice setup there but id never want a New Guitar unless it came out of its original sealed box.... S W has never failed me yet
I bought seafoam Player Strat from Sweetwater last year and it was flawless. Much different experience. Unfortunately the model n this video was a Guitar Center exclusive.
Guitar center is great for that. Buy new but get the finger F guitar off the wall.
It doesn’t come with a gigbag?
No
They are the worst doing this. I recieved one with no tone knobs.
Would have received a nicer guitar if it was a Squier. My Indonesian made Squier fmt strat is a better guitar than my MiM fender, true story and the Squier is Affinity fmt is half the price! Love that blue color though. Thanks for sharing! EDIT: I'm looking forward to hearing how it sounds.
I have nothing against Squire. I have a Squire Affinity Jazzmaster that is great. I bought this only because I wanted a Sonic Blue HSS. Squire doesn't offer that as far as I know.
If your Squire is better it's likely because you don't know how to set up a guitar.
@robertclary1718 hahaha that has nothing to do with it. Perhaps I should have been more specific. On the Squier fmt the frets are a lot smoother, the overall fit and finish looks nicer and that should never be the case when a guitar is half the price.
@robertclary1718 and by the way you're extremely assumption. The fender should be set up as good if not better than the Squier because it is double the price of the Squier so set up has absolutely nothing to do with it, and shouldn't even come into consideration when comparing to a guitar half the price.
@dragan4658 yes the Fender should be set up better, but not all are , not even American Fenders. I've had one or two decent Squires but most are only suitable for firewood. And yes set up has everything to do with it. I would consider fret polishing and leveling part of a complete set up. But I've only made a living as a luthier for 34 years so what the hell do I know.
That sux, had a similar experience with Gibson. Buying guitars online is a NO for me. Gibson told me good luck with my new guitar, find a repair man.
Yup you got skrocked my friend 😢
Never buy a guitar on line sight unseen! You buy at a music store!
Most music stores carry low end guitars, starter packs and strings anymore. This came from a music store right off the wall and is typical of what you see. Guitars that have been fingered by everyone in town. No chance of getting a factory sealed box.
Ask for discount
Not good. Need to get it right the first time GC.
And you return it they want a restocking fee.
Never had that. I return to the store and they refund it . Never an issue there, just that the closest GC in an hour from me.
2 full minutes plus of him unwrapping a guitar and 2 more of him unboxing one ? No ....
What can I say, they packed it pretty good.
There’s no way you bought a brand new guitar and they didn’t come with the stuff it comes with when it’s brand new. That’s shitty.
I just bought a fender player HSS from OfferUp for $550 the guy said it was near mint and I get home and the humbucker isn’t working. I open it up and there sticky soda all under the pickguard. Luckily I know how to clean them up and put copper tape and set them up right, and found out it was soldered the wrong way.😂 but it’s way better now that I spent the hours to make it nice.
@@jeremiahmeraz9298 You got a good deal and it's good now! Enjoy.
I honestly would be calling them back and saying they are going to need to do a free setup on it because of how bad it was when you got it. There should be no fret sprout on a Fender.
Limited edition manky finger print edition
I haven't been to GC since 2002. Most shitty run outfit ever. They will never learn.
IF, i do any shipping business it's with Sam Ash..... GC doesn't exist.
Capitalism at its finest.
