    I really appreciate you guys showing this online. That was a great repair. One issue that no one really addresses, However, someone did later in your comments is that with the sunroof closed they should not leak in. At all. There is a gasket originally that goes between the plastic outer trim piece that sits on top of your roof and your roof that fails. I removed my sunroof and used a good sealant between the sunroof mating surface and the roof just for grins. My rear sunroof used to leak in heavy rain between the mounting surface. Once I resealed, I never had that issue again. I also replaced the rubber seal between the glass and the sunroof frame. The only time water should even get into that tray is if it rains and your sunroof is open. Now I’m working on the driver side corner of the windshield leak although the windshield has been replaced three times… No rust just drama.

      I don't know why I didn't consider just replacing the seal. Now knowing this, I found the replacement seal on Amazon. A pack of two is 60 bucks.

      We are all walking this out. I have an 04 and most folks think the drains are the culprit. Usually they are. But with the glass closed, you have to pass 2 seals to get water to them. 👍🏾

    Bom video. Me ajudou.

    Why not pull new drain tubes with an electrical wire puller?

      The drains themselves are usually fine. It's the connection of the drains to the sunroof pan that's the issue. So to get to that you have to take the headliner down. Once it's down. It would be easy to run new drains if needed.

    what was the black sealant you used thanks Gary

      The black sealant was flex seal. I got it to try and seal the plastic drain bits to the metal tray. It didnt work real great. If I was going to do it again I'd get something made for camper roofs.

    the more I mess with these sunroofs the more I feel that unless you permanently seal them, eventual leakage in some capacity is unavoidable. Did you just seal in the glass completely without the rubber seal / gasket underneath or any weather stripping? Any issues in the 9 or so months since?

      I left everything that was in place and just blobbed silicone between the glass and the rubber. That actually still leaked. I had to cover the rubber around the glass also. That finally worked. I only kept it about 6 months after that video and it never leaked again and I did not keep it covered. Someone suggested the key to fixing them is to replace the rubber seal around the glass. If I was to do it again I'd get that RV roof sealant stuff and just paint a 4 inch strip all around the sunroof. Overlapping the glass and the rubber.

    Better to seal them shut permanently. I’ve “fixed” mine going on 5 times now. Water will find its way in one way or another eventually. Probably will be sealing them like you did this time around.

      Fixing them properly by someone who knows exactly how to do it will sort them. The main issues are: the drains break, also for D2s they only used a small amount of sealant (D1s used way more). The housings need to be completely removed and the mating surfaces cleaned very thoroughly prior to resealing.
      In the uk there is a guy in wales who is an expert on these, he has re done mine

    I suggest on hard plastic and rubber hose that connects together heat up the rubber hose to soften the rubber hose , not sure if my D2 sun roof leaks but the rear won't go down it will stay open it will open back and close back but won't go down to close 😮 I'm confused nobody has viedo on this only leaks

    • @SkippyRockGame
      @SkippyRockGame  5 місяців тому

      So it'll move back and forth just won't go to the fully closed position?

    • @jamesray3920

      Yes correct once I take down the headliner fabric, I will be able to see what's the problem is

    • @SkippyRockGame
      @SkippyRockGame  5 місяців тому

      The motor to the sunroof is underneath the headliner. Not just the fabric. The fabric is attached to the cardboard like piece I painted. I bet if you could disconnect the motor. You could push the sunroof into place. Then reconnect the motor.
