Love this moment in the film. It's perhaps the only moment that Gilda is completely vulnerable, relaxed, and herself- not vamping, taunting, seducing her male admirers. She seems sad as she sings the song, but the bartender seems to be a real friend and not a leech. Thanks for posting.
If you are still around, I agree with you, also, had no idea this song included comments about the Chicago Fire stuff, just great,, best regards to you, from Chicago!
I always hate him for interrupting
you can put the blame on mame......! ♪
@Donovan Alaric pro tip: keep your own private library of dvds. one day disney's not gonna let fixzone CARRY the movie you want to see. then you'll be screwed! disney wants us all by the balls!
Me too!
I hate you too Helen….
Oh hell yeah, me too! Jealous old man!!
Rita Hayworth said that even though the orchestral version was dubbed because the director wanted her to concentrate on the routine, she herself sang and played the guitar version because it was really easy to learn.
Seven Wonders yes, very true. Rita says that herself in an interview
That’s nice to know !
@@dougtrvl888 have to disappoint you - her moves don't match the sound the guitar makes, should have been played very differently
@@miamiawallace Rita herself says she sung and played the guitar for that quieter scene in a 1972 W & A interview. It’s also published in a book about the Films of Rita Hayworth.
As a guitarist I can definitely confirm her hands aren't in the right places to sound the chords that we hear. This is especially apparent when the camera moves to the back view of the guitar neck and the chords are changing and the fretting hand isn't moving at all.
She had a gorgeous voice that also had a hauntingly beautiful quality to it. Love it.
I watched this movie with my dad through TV in the fall in 1991. My father was an old Korean man who did’t watch a movie made in foreign county even in Hollywood, but he watched this movie from the beginning to the end. It was an only movie that I watched with him together. So whenever I missed him so much after his death, it is almost a routine that I listened to this song. Rita Hayworth is a real goddess to me
After reading an article with interviews of her daughter, it's my understanding that this is the song played during her funeral procession. It's her actual voice. Classic.
Rita Hayworth setting the screen on FIRE
and in that moment, she was infinite...
RITA HERSELF ADMITTED TO BEING DUBBED THRU THE YEARS...BUT STATED THIS WAS HER OWN VOICE IN THIS SCENE...MAKES YOU WONDER WHY HER VOICE WAS EVER DUBBED???
Anita Ellis is the voice.
Like "Amado mio"
No, it’s true Rita sang the guitar version herself, she says it in an interview, it’s on UA-cam look it up.
@@Johnny.5.Is.Alive. can you send me the link?
Maria Busygina it’s on UA-cam somewhere I think. I have seen Rita herself say people thought she was dubbed in this but that she actually wasn’t.
She could sing, right.... Bastards did'nt let her.... Love her voice
How lucky we are that Rita's beauty was captured at its peak for all eternity in this film. Beauty is power and Rita never appeared jaded because of holding that power. The news reported that her grandson died and it made news after all these years because Rita's popularity is still going strong. I have heard that there's a clip from Gilda in Michael Jackson's last documentary and a new generation is discovering Rita's irresistable charm & beauty. Anita Ellis is in her 90's & living in NYC.Thanx!
I just walked into my grandfathers house and this song was playing on the tv. Liked it and so I looked it up. I love it now, it’s so relaxing. Just finished on the tv a few seconds ago.
*LYRICS*
When Mrs. O'Leary's cow
Kicked the lantern in Chicago town
They say that started the fire
That burned Chicago down
That's the story that went around
But here's the real low-down
Put the blame on Mame, boys
Put the blame on Mame
Mame kissed a buyer from out of town
That kiss burned Chicago down
So you can put the blame on Mame, boys
Put the blame on Mame
Remember the blizzard, back in Manhattan
In eighteen-eighty-six
They say that traffic was tied up
And folks were in a fix
That's the story that went around
But here's the real low-down
Put the blame on Mame, boys
Put the blame on Mame
Mame gave a chump such an ice-cold "No"
For seven days they shovelled snow
So you can put the blame on Mame, boys
Put the blame on Mame
Thank you for posting this.
I've always wondered who Mame was...
what about the first three verses?
Wow this song is different, the another one talks about the earthquake in San Francisco.
Muchas gracias por la letra de la canción
Her real voice is actually quite good...
It's Anita Ellis voice but she's still great
Actually there is an interview where Rita says she sung this part herself. Anita sung the part where Rita dances in the famous black dress.
Jamie Rattigan This part is her real voice.
@@Johnny.5.Is.Alive. where did you find this interview?))

I love all the people saying her voice is "actually quite good". Dude, it's perfect!
She was so lovely! A lot of people don't believe she was actually singing in this scene, but she was. It makes me wonder why she was never able to do her own singing in everything else, she clearly had the talent!
Truly one of the all-time great beauties everything about her was magical
My favorite scene in the movie. This version of the song works so much better than the black dress scene one. Doesn't seem to be the same singer...
La merveilleuse et sensuelle voix de l'inoubliable Rita Hayworth alias Gilda ...film épique.
Merci pour ce beau partage et cette version à la guitare de la mémorable chanson🎶🎵🌹❤️
Who cares if it is not her voice! Just look at her! A true diva, one of the most beautiful ladies in movies all times!
it is her own voice! :)
I had not seen the movie until last night, of course i knew the song, and had seen the iconic dance scene at the casino, but when this scene came, i immediately thought it was Julie London because the voice sounds so similar, even the guitar sounds exactly like a Julie London song, then i saw that it was Rita, and i thought it really was her, but now I've learned that it's not her, a bit disapointing bc i loved the song, but still, love her in the movie, iconic performance, #shouldhavewonanOscar
I don't believe that is true.Do you hear any difference between this voice and the one in the dance scene? No. There is none. It is the same voice: Anita Ellis.
Diana Trimble there is a difference. The casino voice is slightly deeper and steadier. Rita did sing this version.
I hear a difference too. She has a deeper voice than the casino voice. This sounds very similar to her speaking voice.
what a bum. he could have waited till the song was done
Why would he when she had been so hostile to him?
@@abhinavs5213 And he was very nice to her?
Eternal Moonlight At this stage of the movie, he hadn't started troubling her yet. It was she who was trying her best to make him jealous.
😂
bellísima Rita, interpretando a la inolvidable Gilda.Esta es una de las pocas ocaciones en que la voz de la Hayworth no fue doblada. Esta escena ,sentada sobre una mesa cantando con una guitarra, es definitivamente un momento mágico.
She's really singing it! I'm curious (and a bit sad...) why she was dubbed so many times... Her voice is nice!!!
Love you Rita. Beautiful dancer and actress, with a great voice!
Püre talent
Such an underrated moment in Cinema...❤️🙌🏽❤️🙌🏽❤️🙌🏽
This is really her. I don't know why they had someone else sing for her in the nightclub version. This is my favorite.
Rita is simply DIVINE !!!!!!!
awesome actress ! amazing charism! she's so talented and graceful !
Assuming it's her real voice, it sounds strong enough and sensuous enough for her to have performed it in the main number. I always thought Rita's dubbers were a touch too strident for my liking.
wiki says it's her voice, other sources say it's not
It was Anita Ellis, who is actually still alive at 94!
+Misha Sofia Anita Ellis sang the song for the "strip tease" scene. This is Rita's real voice.
Misha Sofia Is she still young like the clip Im gonna a date with her
@@mishasofia6091 it wasn’t Anita for the guitar scene, it was Rita and she explains in an interview that they wanted a singer with a stronger voice for scenes with bands (when recording) and Rita sang softer scenes and other vocal artists like Anita sang when big bands were involved.
I love the movie and Rita dancing to this song as the absolute femme Fatale!!! But I also love her in this... Plain... Just playing the guitar and singing....with an earthly quality.... Like this goddess is one of us...
Very romantic....makes you want to stay up all night..❤
I prefer this version much much more than the cabaret version
Yes, their voices are different. The cabaret version is a deeper voice
@@beanstaIkjack exactly
I love the lyrics and Rita was a LADY. Today is rare to find grace on stars women.
Just lovely
Rita is so beautiful and so talented.

The beautiful Rita Hayworth.
THIS IS RITA HAYWORTH VOICE! AND PLAYING GUITAR TOO!
This is her real voice. The one when she dances isn't, although I don't know why. But this is my favoraite.
That's real beauty. No surgeries, no fix, no lifts, no tricks. Nothing but nature in its true beauty.
She did have her hairline “fixed.”
QUÉ HERMOSA PELÍCULA ES "GILDA", UN CLÁSICO!!!DIVINA RITA, INOLVIDABLE MUJER Y ACTRIZ 🥰🥰🥰👏👏👏😃👍🇦🇷❤️❤️❤️!!!
In this scene, it is Rita's actual singing voice.
Most beautiful woman ever.
She was such a gorgeous lady, full of life.
yes, it was very sad....such a wonderful, talented human being. I remember seeing the headlines about Rita Hayworth. Tragic.
Beauty & talent
Who can match that?
In my own words, no words ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️!
Wooooooooooooooooooooooooow Rita you're a bomb! For ever in our memory.
As with Natalie Wood in West Side Story, it's unfortunate they didn't give Rita a chance to do all her own singing. Her actual voice is quite pleasant with some very touching overtones. Though I must say, Anita Ellis was a fine singer, though she didn't shine to the utmost until the '50s and beyond when she became one of the premier jazz singers of her generation.
This film is one of the best examples of film noire to see
A beautiful classic movie.i love it.!!🎉👍💡💌
Gilda un gran clásico del séptimo Arte!!!
I Love Rita so much. There was really no one quite like. her. And she was a legendary Star. And for those who believe she's singing here, my comment that it is Anita Ellis is NOT a challenge. I just think that to be the case. But we are all entitled to come to our own conclusions. (Jo Ann Greer's voice was used for other Rita films like "Miss Sadie Thompson" & "Zip" from "Pal Joey") For me, nothing can diminish the Rita Hayworth effect. She was one of the most incredible artists ever to grace the screen.
on "amado mio" and the orchestra version of "put the blame on mame" she was lips synching on Anita Kert Ellis's voice but on this guitar version (in the movie) it was her who sang. (sorry for my bad english)
Absolutely , beautiful !!
What a beautiful, femine, sensous, and perfect woman she is
That is completly true...so right. How lucky you were to have met Rita I LOVE HER, and now I can add my 4 girls as fans as well...they love Gilda!!
