@@Alwayslearnimg i love aldi. I find their produce better than walmart personally. They have great cereal bars..cheap tasty quick foods like frozen pizza fries tator tots..etc..their blsl chicken is good...the salmon both fresh and frozen is good. Cheeses r good. I prefer them over walmart.
I spent a 100.00 at Aldis yesterday and seemed like I didn't get much. Things about to get worse with the Truckers strike on the 11th. Very uncertain times right now.

Yep. Delay is a valid tactic! I can't tell you how many times I've delayed a purchase and just made do and ultimately decided making do was good enough. No $$ necessary.
Just wanted to say much of the items you say you have stopped has been a normal for me.. I have had to learn how to get by on my sos disability check .rasing children with no help from anyone! My 1st Christmas that I have no gift not one for the 2 children. I'm hurt more than they are. We don't have anything decor up either. But Tessie from watching this show it has shown r taught me to use lanterns. I already keep my breakers to stove washer/dryer hotwater heater on off I turn them on when need. Saves me.lots of dollars. I too live in an old double wide. Hard to keep warm. These kids are good n.straight A. I just ask that you ray for my children my health is well don't want to say. But please pray that they remain together never b seperate

I started canning and preserving food which allows me to really stock up on sales to the point where I ONLY buy what's on an extreme sale. My grocery bill went from $120 a week to about $30 a week. It's made a MASSIVE difference! I'll never go back!
I do that too. Makes a HUGE difference! Then I buy toiletries at Dollar Tree. That makes a big difference, too. It's way cheaper even than Walmart. Of course, you can price compare. Walmart does have VO5 a few cents cheaper than Dollar Tree, just one example.
I've been canning for 50 years. We lived on a small farm and it was a family event during harvest season. I now live in the desert so no gardens here but do stock up on sales at the stores. I mostly just pressure can meats for quick meals. After St Pattys day the past two years I found Corned Beef on sale for 99 cents a pound! I bought all 22 flats and canned every bit of it. Delicious. I pour out the broth to cook the cabbage in, then out comes the corned beef to warm up and I've got a fresh, tasty corned beef and cabbage dinner in 10 minutes for less than $2.
You are so right. I grew up poor but was happy. People tend to think happiness is in material things. I learned this the hard way. Happiness comes from within. Be content with where you are now.
Enjoyed. I have 20 to 40 a month left after my bills are paid. Its very difficult but I make it. I go to food pantries and watch every penny. Thanks for sharing. Im disabled so it is what it is. God bless you.
Have you thought about looking into a room to rent in a house that everything is provided such as utilities wifi etc and use of whole house that the owner allows if not is there a way you could rent a room your not using to someone you can look on craigslist and the key is something not over 350 400 tops if you live on ssi income and you only have 30 to 40 dollars left you could qualify for food stamps which would help I live on 7 hundred something been in similar situation
I just discovered this channel and I am so glad I did. My husband just lost his job because of the pandemic and I am looking for ways to tighten an already tight budget that is now down to zero income and zero health insurance, plus we are raising our two-year-old grandchild. Most of the tips I already implement, but I’ve already learned a lot from you: there are always ways to cut spending even when you think you’re as tight as you can be. Thanks.

I don't have health insurance and I work for now for $60.00 a week my food I get is the same way as you I don't get any assistance. But I'm ok and I'm always looking for ways to help others and my self. God blesses me every day and I'm so thankful . Your channel is a blessing to me and so many others

You have the courage to be open and honest about things that so many of us have been (wrongly) taught to sweep under the rug -- even though half the country really is living paycheck to paycheck and couldn't come up with $400 if there would happen to be an emergency! You're speaking to real Americans! And there are millions of us! I have to add the you are your own best physician. You don't eat high fat/chemical-laden restaurant fast food. Your diet is full of the fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs and fruits that you grow. You don't drink gallons of soda and you don't smoke. And you are obviously VERY active. I'm thinking you're good to make it to 100 -- easy. Peace be with you as you navigate through these difficult times.
My family didn't have AC either out here in southern AZ but neither did most neighbors, it did not affect my ability to do well in free public school, my parents put importance on our minds by threatening to pull us out of school if we didn't do well and proved it by pulling out a couple of their kids when they got to high school! They did so much better when they earned the right to go back, one even made it to the National Honor Society. Boy did that teach all of us not to mess with our mom because she felt we shouldn't waste anyone's time. I joined the AF for opportunity-GI bill, another way to pay for college and travel. I credit my childhood poverty and the right lessons for all of what I have now. Please address the issue of what the guy in the big white house is teaching all of us...especially your kids don't assume they know how you feel about it and don't worry people like Tessie are out there doing it right and she is teaching us all by example.
Hi, Tessie!! I am so proud of you!! You’re right, not everybody can live the way you do. I cut corners when I can. Yes, my hubby and I both have cell phones, but with all his health problems and being on dialysis and in and out of the hospital, well let’s just say we actually do need our phones. I really do wish I could pattern my life after yours. The problem is, is that I’m 70 years old and move like I’m 150. I know my health is deteriorating just because of taking care of him but he’s mine to take care of. That’s the way love is. My ability to move around is not too good anymore. I used to be areal go getter and be busy a lot. Now I tire out pretty quickly. Girl, I’m just so proud of you and all you do for yourself and your family and your friends. I think you’re awesome. Love the way you explain the way you love and how you and your husband get paid and what you two pay for me. People think you make alot on utube. Love you tell it. We shouldn't complain if we pay our bills and have food to eat and a car to drive even if it is not too he best.qatleast we are better off the we n some. Others that don't have it. Thanks so so much for your videos and being so transparent. I went from 180k to living on ssdi and child support because my son was born extremely sick. I quit my job as a platinum financial adviser and im happier couponing and searching for budgets. I appreciate things so much more

Your budgeting seems to be working in your family! I too, live in a double wide 1994 mobile home in a mobile home park with my older daughter! We manage very well and consider myself doing well on a state pension and social security, and my daughter's part-time salary in retail( due to pandemic, recently downsized from full time salary). We are better off than some and worse than others but I can't complain and consider myself very blessed every day that I have what I have!! I am especially blessed that I am a 12 yr. Cancer survivor at 70 yrs..old!! Minimal health problems(controlled) and still upright and mobile!! Health insurance was especially helpful in my situation and my job had a good policy which I still get with my medicare!! So the sooner you get some kind of health insurance the better! I wasn't sick either before I got my cancer! Looking back over my life, I feel God has been watching over me since I was born. My prayers are still being offered for your whole family to get passed this unexpected death of your father! Stay strong in the Lord and He will provide!! God Bless!
Tessie, thrift stores are a God send. I often tell people with compulsive shopping problems to go there to shop. You purge the urge without breaking the budget. You talk about not needing certain things, like food stamps. Well, anyone smart doesn't need to throw their money away at department stores. I have a closet full of high end brand clothing that is beautiful that I paid less than $5 for each item. It gives me joy to hear friends say "where did you get that?" and they are always shocked by where and the price. The gratification is not instant and you have to go often and look hard for those treasures you find, but that's half the fun.
I used to be a thrift store junkie. But now around here thrift stores are not worth it. Dresses can be $30! There is rarely anything under double digits. I miss the thrill of the deal.
It used to be strangers would talk to each other when in a waiting room. Now, more often than not, they are doing something with the cell phone or some other electronic device. Sad really. Life without people in your life is the same as solitary confinement. Your life is richer for not having a cell phone.

I personally think that it can be on your channel if someone wants to do it for you without cheaply promoting it. Her advice will save me a heck of a lot more than a dollar. I gladly have 2 people I patreon because they have either saved me a lot of money, shared their knowledge on how to do something, or inspired me to change my life. They are worth investing in more than a Starbucks coffee. I like to invest in people too.
Tessie, You are the richest person in life. Maybe not money exactly, but your life is full, you have such a great spirit, full of knowledgeable things and a positive can do attitude. You share food with ppl that need it. We all have struggles, but make it thru. Keep on encouraging ppl to change their life, so they get of debt or pay cash for everything. I grew up upper mud class and had a friend who got tons of gifts at Christmas and fir her birthday. I was jealous of her when I was younger. As I grew older, I realized that my parents gave me the gift of money management,live within your means and their presence was a present. I now feel so rich with love and financial security.
I think that you do well on your budget Tessie. It does help that you and your husband are on the same page about finances. It is not whether you have money or not, it is how you think about it. Tessie's understanding that anything can happen is something that is not widely believed and then, a shock comes and they can't figure out what happened to them. They trusted that the next check was always coming and their health would always be perfect, etc etc. no common sense Maybe nothing will ever happen and that is great - you have all that extra money for your old age. I cannot say MOST rich people are living miserable lives. I don't know MOST rich people. The few people I know that do not work regular jobs and are financially secure are very, very happy. These couple of people are multimillionaires. They are pretty darn happy. Just sayin. LOL.
@@donnaleeclubb119 It is how they view money. It they could be just as happy without it, then they have the secret to contentment. I do not like the word happy - sounds like a Disney thing and is transitory. Contentment is a peace inside which can't be shaken by the happenings outside.

You're absolutely correct.... some of these ideas will not work for me BUT your ideas have inspired me to re-evaluate the areas where I CAN do without some expenses! Right now, this has me really thinking about being more responsible.... and yes, I say "responsible", when it comes to reuse/recycle/repurpose. I'm also a tomboy wanting to still be feminine. I buy mens t-shirts at Wal-Mart also. And even tank tops. I live in Florida & don't really need sweatshirts. I think you're a wonderful person. I think you're also a highly sensitive person. Which only means you need to live simply with no chaos. You're living the best life. Guard your heart during this time of grief. Hi, Tessie, thank you for sharing! During my studies as a jurist at court, I had to go round with a bailiff, where we had to garnish things at homes, where people didn’t pay their bills. They often were as young as me and I never forgot their panic, when we arrived early in the morning. Their flats were looking perfect, everything fitting, brand new...while I was living in mostly donated furniture. They weren’t bad people, they just ordered and ordered, which is very easy(buy now, pay later...) and didn’t think about 'later'. I never was in dept, especially after these experiences I was very thoughtful, went to the library only for years, bought a lot of my clothes on flea markets and travelled with a tent. One other of the main reasons for depts was counting on 2 incomes. What if one of two is loosing the job, gets sick? I always tried to count on one income, which I unexpectedly had to do for about 12 years. I was well prepared and never had the feeling that I’m poor. I’m so glad you made a turnaround, and now inspire all of us with your way of living.💡 And you are probably healthier than ever, that’s a miracle (or a sign that working hard, mostly outdoor, is healthy😉). I don’t agree, that your channel is kind of old fashioned... quite the contrary: living in 'tiny houses' , 'downsizing', 'simple living' and 'minimalism' are so popular. Of course it’s the same like living healthy: it’s going overboard first, everybody has to find THEIR OWN WAY, fitting to them. I like all that and admire minimalists, but I’m not, I need a lot of things to do my arts, my garden work, kitchen stuff. Just now we are drying persimmons, they are cheap now and will be our favourite sweets at Christmas: for ourselves and as gifts. If I ask people about their wishes, they so often only want handknitted socks 🧦, haha: I need a lot of wool, but people are donating wool to me all the time, too. I love the English child book: Something from everything. I guess you know it? And to give me a little treat I started to have a round at the thrift store, greeting you over the oceans, when I’m there... seldom spending more than 5€. Like you I love singing to entertain me. Thank you for advocating against food waste. Perfectly good food is thrown in the landfill while people can't afford food. Really enjoyed your talk. I have lived this way most of my life (with the exceptions of several dumb choices I made and will probably still occasionally make in the future). I did that about a year ago and thought I would miss it because I had certain shows I watched every week - now - can NOT remember what they were and do not miss them one bit. I have ROKU and my computer and it is way more than what I need to know
I grew up with 5 sisters we were frugal everything was homemade, I'm glad that's why I know how how to cook with few ingredients...I still cook like that, with this virus and illness going around you need to be prepared... God bless

I followed Amy Daycyzn back in the mid 90’s. I still have all 6 years of her newsletter. She talked about levels of spending examples: (1) free clothes (gift and hand me downs), bartering for clothes, yard sales, thrift stores, estate sales, department stores. Within each ways are variations. I’ve known shoppers who use loyalty programs, discounts, sales and coupons to get clothes dirt cheap at Macy’s or Kohl’s; then use for several kids and finally she would sell for a profit on EBay or Facebook MarketPlace. I’ve known others who bought yard sale wardrobes for their 4 kids for less then $100 a year, boots and coats included (plus hand me downs). I pretty much have lived below my means since I graduated from college. I have been debt free for 4 years and own my own home. I am 57 y/o and just retired October 30th after working at the same job for 30 years. I don't see being frugal as a punishment. After all, most of the people I know are still working and deep in debt and I'm not. I enjoy your channel and all of the good ideas you have!!

We have 3 kiddos, and we are a single income family. We are a little over $100,000 in debt, not including our home. When I started watching your videos I was here to learn to save on groceries and have a stockpile of food for an emergency. Never did I think that I would learn so much. You and I share a love for all things vintage. A simpler way of life. I love learning from the great depression Era and from the 50s era. I love oil lamps. I try to live by the great depression motto, use it up. Wear it out, make it do or do without. I have learned so much from you over the past year when I found your channel. I don't have a cell phone either and my lands you would think I said I didn't have air to breathe, they can't seem to grasp I don't need/nor want one. lol
I hate it, but due to age and being disabled, I carry it for needing to get help, or for all long distance ( which are a lot of areas just 12 miles from me). I have it programmed to take no messages or texts.
We all have cell phone (my husband, myself, and my 14 year old daughter). My son has one, however, he pays for his. We have prepaid phones and prepaid plan which costs all 4 of us 100.00 a month (our part is 85.00 per month). We do not have a home phone. A home phone in our area costs nearly 50.00. For us, we decided that it was better to spend an extra 35.00 a month. My husband is self-employed and has to use it for work purposes. I also work part-time as a 911 dispatcher, and there are some times that I have to be on the road late into the night, and I just wouldn't feel safe without a cell phone.
I understand completely how it is to live penny to penny when every penny counts and youve pulled all the tricks from your hat u could. We recently sold our home and my hubby found a better paying job. We live debt free now no cc no mortgage he also got rid if his cell phone and we live rurally so no gas or water or trash bills. We are finally in a spot were we can splurge or actually buy things weve needed and of course some wants but within our means. And i certainly wont give up my frugal ways. I finally got Clothes and shoes for me..walmart specials..and weve enjoyed bfast out as a family recently. We silently paid it forward as we once had it done for us and paid for a-vietnam vets breakfast and his wifes. I just wanted to give back and no i didnt annouce it to them i just asked the waitress to let them know it was taken care of. I didnt do it for praise but just to pay ot forward and bless someone else.

I'm a big believer in building a small amount into a budget for "play money." I feel it keeps one from feeling deprived so it is easier to stay within an extreme budget. Just because the small amount is there doesn't mean it has to be spent...roll it over to the next budget, and the next, and pretty soon there is quite a big chunk to buy something special.

Years ago after Ron died and I wanted to cut expenses I was fortunate to have a wise friend who challenged me to think outside the box. Start with knowing a need from a want. Cannot stress need from a want enough. It's a lifestyle issue! That's what I did. Over a two year span I sold 70% of all the stuff in our home. A friend who had a walk in closet full of clothes, some that still had the tags, sold a good 50% of the items either on eBay or a local consignment shop. Many places have separate changes for water and sewer and the sewer is based on what grey/black water waste leaves the home via the sewer system. Simply creating a safe and healthy grey water set up where the washing machine, shower, kitchen sink water could be diverted to large rain barrels outside to use for watering the yard and garden and that cut back on sewer costs BIG time. Auto insurance Many auto insurance have lower rates for folks who don't smoke, drink, and drive less than 5k miles a year. We had DishNetwork for years but I haven't had a tv in years. My neighbor has tv and has something called Roku and gets local tv stations for free. DishNetwork used to have a $10 a month plan for just local channels. Healthcare is a concern for a lot of people. Would like to note that someone can appear to be in good health but have health issues often related to a diet high in animal products, fat, salt. high cholesterol, or obesity, bad dental health. Here in our area of California, mobile homes don't pay property taxes like a home on a foundation, but they do have to renew their mobile license yearly. The land the mobile home sits on is taxed and for the most part the taxes are low. We do have a landline because we can have rough winters and being able to call 911 etc. is important. Folks who lose power cannot use a laptop, charge a cell phone etc. Our phone is ATT and includes high speed Internet. And thankfully we have a four solar panel set up from 4Patriots for backup electricity

Tessie, it's easier to budget if you can reward yourself. Thift shopping is an excellent source of budget reward :) When my kiddos were little I would take $10 on payday and stop by a thrift store and see what clothes and shoes I could get for them. If I was careful I could get quite a bit :)

Just wanted to say much of the items you say you have stopped has been a normal for me.. I have had to learn how to get by on my sos disability check .rasing children with no help from anyone! My 1st Christmas that I have no gift not one for the 2 children. I'm hurt more than they are. We don't have anything decor up either. But Tessie from watching this show it has shown r taught me to use lanterns. I already keep my breakers to stove washer/dryer hotwater heater on off I turn them on when need.

I started canning and preserving food which allows me to really stock up on sales to the point where I ONLY buy what's on an extreme sale. My grocery bill went from $120 a week to about $30 a week. It's made a MASSIVE difference! I'll never go back!
I do that too. Makes a HUGE difference! Then I buy toiletries at Dollar Tree. That makes a big difference, too. It's way cheaper even than Walmart. Of course, you can price compare. Walmart does have VO5 a few cents cheaper than Dollar Tree, just one example.

I've been canning for 50 years. We lived on a small farm and it was a family event during harvest season. I now live in the desert so no gardens here but do stock up on sales at the stores. I mostly just pressure can meats for quick meals. After St Pattys day the past two years I found Corned Beef on sale for 99 cents a pound! I bought all 22 flats and canned every bit of it. Delicious. I pour out the broth to cook the cabbage in, then out comes the corned beef to warm up and I've got a fresh, tasty corned beef and cabbage dinner in 10 minutes for less than $2.

Have you thought about looking into a room to rent in a house that everything is provided such as utilities wifi etc and use of whole house that the owner allows if not is there a way you could rent a room your not using to someone you can look on craigslist and the key is something not over 350 400 tops if you live on ssi income and you only have 30 to 40 dollars left you could qualify for food stamps which would help I live on 7 hundred something been in similar situation

You have the courage to be open and honest about things that so many of us have been (wrongly) taught to sweep under the rug -- even though half the country really is living paycheck to paycheck and couldn't come up with $400 if there would happen to be an emergency! You're speaking to real Americans! And there are millions of us! I have to add the you are your own best physician. You don't eat high fat/chemical-laden restaurant fast food. Your diet is full of the fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs and fruits that you grow. You don't drink gallons of soda and you don't smoke. And you are obviously VERY active. I'm thinking you're good to make it to 100 -- easy. Peace be with you as you navigate through these difficult times.
I gave up cellphone, I do have a basic landline of 12$ a month. I remember when cable tv was a luxury along with air-conditioning.
I would love to have a land phone again I went to a cell phone because landline was almost twice the amount of a cell phone with just the phone.
I have a landline but here in Ks it's around $70.00 a month with limited long distance. Were always getting ripped off here. $12 Wow, I'd love that.

My family didn't have AC either out here in southern AZ but neither did most neighbors, it did not affect my ability to do well in free public school, my parents put importance on our minds by threatening to pull us out of school if we didn't do well and proved it by pulling out a couple of their kids when they got to high school! They did so much better when they earned the right to go back, one even made it to the National Honor Society. Boy did that teach all of us not to mess with our mom because she felt we shouldn't waste anyone's time. I joined the AF for opportunity-GI bill, another way to pay for college and travel. I credit my childhood poverty and the right lessons for all of what I have now. Please address the issue of what the guy in the big white house is teaching all of us...especially your kids don't assume they know how you feel about it and don't worry people like Tessie are out there doing it right and she is teaching us all by example.

Yes, my hubby and I both have cell phones, but with all his health problems and being on dialysis and in and out of the hospital, well let’s just say we actually do need our phones. I really do wish I could pattern my life after yours. The problem is, is that I’m 70 years old and move like I’m 150. I know my health is deteriorating just because of taking care of him but he’s mine to take care of. That’s the way love is. My ability to move around is not too good anymore. I used to be areal go getter and be busy a lot. Now I tire out pretty quickly. Girl, I’m just so proud of you and all you do for yourself and your family and your friends. I think you’re awesome. Your budgeting seems to be working in your family! I too, live in a double wide 1994 mobile home in a mobile home park with my older daughter! We manage very well and consider myself doing well on a state pension and social security, and my daughter's part-time salary in retail( due to pandemic, recently downsized from full time salary). We are better off than some and worse than others but I can't complain and consider myself very blessed every day that I have what I have!! I am especially blessed that I am a 12 yr. Cancer survivor at 70 yrs..old!! Minimal health problems(controlled) and still upright and mobile!! Health insurance was especially helpful in my situation and my job had a good policy which I still get with my medicare!! So the sooner you get some kind of health insurance the better! I wasn't sick either before I got my cancer! Looking back over my life, I feel God has been watching over me since I was born. My prayers are still being offered for your whole family to get passed this unexpected death of your father! Stay strong in the Lord and He will provide!! God Bless!
Tessie, thrift stores are a God send. I often tell people with compulsive shopping problems to go there to shop. You purge the urge without breaking the budget. You talk about not needing certain things, like food stamps. Well, anyone smart doesn't need to throw their money away at department stores. I have a closet full of high end brand clothing that is beautiful that I paid less than $5 for each item. It gives me joy to hear friends say "where did you get that?" and they are always shocked by where and the price. The gratification is not instant and you have to go often and look hard for those treasures you find, but that's half the fun.
I used to be a thrift store junkie. But now around here thrift stores are not worth it. Dresses can be $30! There is rarely anything under double digits. I miss the thrill of the deal.
It used to be strangers would talk to each other when in a waiting room. Now, more often than not, they are doing something with the cell phone or some other electronic device. Sad really. Life without people in your life is the same as solitary confinement. Your life is richer for not having a cell phone.

I personally think that it can be on your channel if someone wants to do it for you without cheaply promoting it. Her advice will save me a heck of a lot more than a dollar. I gladly have 2 people I patreon because they have either saved me a lot of money, shared their knowledge on how to do something, or inspired me to change my life. They are worth investing in more than a Starbucks coffee. I like to invest in people too.
You don't have to leave you tube to go to patreon. They can happily coexist. Its not one or the other. The people make the choice.

We started taking more drastic measures this year to get out of it and I’m learning to be proud of that and be thankful for what we do have. Thank you for your content. I grew up upper mud class and had a friend who got tons of gifts at Christmas and fir her birthday. I was jealous of her when I was younger. As I grew older, I realized that my parents gave me the gift of money management,live within your means and their presence was a present. I now feel so rich with love and financial security.
I think that you do well on your budget Tessie. It does help that you and your husband are on the same page about finances. I cannot say MOST rich people are living miserable lives. I don't know MOST rich people. The few people I know that do not work regular jobs and are financially secure are very, very happy. These couple of people are multimillionaires. They are pretty darn happy. Just sayin. LOL.

My husband got excited when I bought him a pug Beanie Baby from the local Goodwill.

Hi, Tessie, thank you for sharing! During my studies as a jurist at court, I had to go round with a bailiff, where we had to garnish things at homes, where people didn’t pay their bills. They often were as young as me and I never forgot their panic, when we arrived early in the morning. Their flats were looking perfect, everything fitting, brand new...while I was living in mostly donated furniture. They weren’t bad people, they just ordered and ordered, which is very easy(buy now, pay later...) and didn’t think about 'later'. I never was in dept, especially after these experiences I was very thoughtful, went to the library only for years, bought a lot of my clothes on flea markets and travelled with a tent. One other of the main reasons for depts was counting on 2 incomes. What if one of two is loosing the job, gets sick? I always tried to count on one income, which I unexpectedly had to do for about 12 years. I was well prepared and never had the feeling that I’m poor. I’m so glad you made a turnaround, and now inspire all of us with your way of living.💡 And you are probably healthier than ever, that’s a miracle (or a sign that working hard, mostly outdoor, is healthy😉). I don’t agree, that your channel is kind of old fashioned... quite the contrary: living in 'tiny houses' , 'downsizing', 'simple living' and 'minimalism' are so popular. Of course it’s the same like living healthy: it’s going overboard first, everybody has to find THEIR OWN WAY, fitting to them. I like all that and admire minimalists, but I’m not, I need a lot of things to do my arts, my garden work, kitchen stuff. Just now we are drying persimmons, they are cheap now and will be our favourite sweets at Christmas: for ourselves and as gifts. If I ask people about their wishes, they so often only want handknitted socks 🧦, haha: I need a lot of wool, but people are donating wool to me all the time, too. I love the English child book: Something from everything. I guess you know it? Thank you for advocating against food waste. Perfectly good food is thrown in the landfill while people can't afford food. Really enjoyed your talk. I have lived this way most of my life (with the exceptions of several dumb choices I made and will probably still occasionally make in the future). You are doing so well to be living comfortably, debt free and saving for your future.

I did that about a year ago and thought I would miss it because I had certain shows I watched every week - now - can NOT remember what they were and do not miss them one bit. I have ROKU and my computer and it is way more than what I need to know

I followed Amy Daycyzn back in the mid 90’s. I still have all 6 years of her newsletter. She talked about levels of spending examples: (1) free clothes (gift and hand me downs), bartering for clothes, yard sales, thrift stores, estate sales, department stores. Within each ways are variations. I’ve known shoppers who use loyalty programs, discounts, sales and coupons to get clothes dirt cheap at Macy’s or Kohl’s; then use for several kids and finally she would sell for a profit on EBay or Facebook MarketPlace. I’ve known others who bought yard sale wardrobes for their 4 kids for less then $100 a year, boots and coats included (plus hand me downs). I pretty much have lived below my means since I graduated from college. I have been debt free for 4 years and own my own home. I am 57 y/o and just retired October 30th after working at the same job for 30 years. I don't see being frugal as a punishment. After all, most of the people I know are still working and deep in debt and I'm not. I enjoy your channel and all of the good ideas you have!!

We have 3 kiddos, and we are a single income family. We are a little over $100,000 in debt, not including our home. When I started watching your videos I was here to learn to save on groceries and have a stockpile of food for an emergency. Never did I think that I would learn so much. You and I share a love for all things vintage. A simpler way of life. I love learning from the great depression Era and from the 50s era. I love oil lamps. I try to live by the great depression motto, use it up. Wear it out, make it do or do without. I have learned so much from you over the past year when I found your channel. I don't have a cell phone either and my lands you would think I said I didn't have air to breathe, they can't seem to grasp I don't need/nor want one. lol
Lol, I have a basic cell but hardly ever use it. Mainly got it for when I travel, in case I break down. It costs me about $16 a month.
I hate it, but due to age and being disabled, I carry it for needing to get help, or for all long distance ( which are a lot of areas just 12 miles from me). I have it programmed to take no messages or texts.

We all have cell phone (my husband, myself, and my 14 year old daughter). My son has one, however, he pays for his. We have prepaid phones and prepaid plan which costs all 4 of us 100.00 a month (our part is 85.00 per month). We do not have a home phone. A home phone in our area costs nearly 50.00. For us, we decided that it was better to spend an extra 35.00 a month. My husband is self-employed and has to use it for work purposes. I also work part-time as a 911 dispatcher, and there are some times that I have to be on the road late into the night, and I just wouldn't feel safe without a cell phone.
I understand completely how it is to live penny to penny when every penny counts and youve pulled all the tricks from your hat u could. We recently sold our home and my hubby found a better paying job.
We live debt free now no cc no mortgage he also got rid if his cell phone and we live rurally so no gas or water or trash bills. We are finally in a spot were we can splurge or actually buy things weve needed and of course some wants but within our means. And i certainly wont give up my frugal ways. I finally got Clothes and shoes for me..walmart specials..and weve enjoyed bfast out as a family recently. We silently paid it forward as we once had it done for us and paid for a-vietnam vets breakfast and his wifes. I just wanted to give back and no i didnt annouce it to them i just asked the waitress to let them know it was taken care of. I didnt do it for praise but just to pay ot forward and bless someone else.

I'm a big believer in building a small amount into a budget for "play money." I feel it keeps one from feeling deprived so it is easier to stay within an extreme budget. Just because the small amount is there doesn't mean it has to be spent...roll it over to the next budget, and the next, and pretty soon there is quite a big chunk to buy something special.

Years ago after Ron died and I wanted to cut expenses I was fortunate to have a wise friend who challenged me to think outside the box. Start with knowing a need from a want. Cannot stress need from a want enough. It's a lifestyle issue!
That's what I did. Over a two year span I sold 70% of all the stuff in our home. A friend who had a walk in closet full of clothes, some that still had the tags, sold a good 50% of the items either on eBay or a local consignment shop.
Many places have separate changes for water and sewer and the sewer is based on what grey/black water waste leaves the home via the sewer system. Simply creating a safe and healthy grey water set up where the washing machine, shower, kitchen sink water could be diverted to large rain barrels outside to use for watering the yard and garden and that cut back on sewer costs BIG time.
Auto insurance Many auto insurance have lower rates for folks who don't smoke, drink, and drive less than 5k miles a year.
We had DishNetwork for years but I haven't had a tv in years. My neighbor has tv and has something called Roku and gets local tv stations for free. DishNetwork used to have a $10 a month plan for just local channels.
Healthcare is a concern for a lot of people. Would like to note that someone can appear to be in good health but have health issues often related to a diet high in animal products, fat, salt. high cholesterol, or obesity, bad dental health.
Here in our area of California, mobile homes don't pay property taxes like a home on a foundation, but they do have to renew their mobile license yearly. The land the mobile home sits on is taxed and for the most part the taxes are low.
We do have a landline because we can have rough winters and being able to call 911 etc. is important. Folks who lose power cannot use a laptop, charge a cell phone etc. Our phone is ATT and includes high speed Internet. And thankfully we have a four solar panel set up from 4Patriots for backup electricity

Tessie, it's easier to budget if you can reward yourself. Thift shopping is an excellent source of budget reward :) When my kiddos were little I would take $10 on payday and stop by a thrift store and see what clothes and shoes I could get for them. If I was careful I could get quite a bit :)
