Things that make me feel Rich. 1. walking into a a warm house on a cold night 2. extra Blankets 3. boots that keep my feet warm and dry 4. A warm coat 5. A day listening to music and reading 6. Spending time with my family. 7. Being able to provide for my family.
Warmth! Yes! That’s a top notch, primal instinct feeling. Everyone loves having a shelter, being warm in the cold and feeling cozy. I’m all for it to make it in the list
If you buy beans from a coffee shop, they’ll often grind them for you for free if you ask! Depends on the shop though. That way you don’t need to buy a grinder, and they often use burr grinders which are better anyway!
I can relate 1000% with coffee. And also with fresh fruit and vegetables from local market or when I pick herbs in the forrest and then make herbal tea.
One of the things that makes me feel rich is accessing something I grew up thinking was super fancy but is actually really affordable when you find it in certain places like local groceries or cafes. Like certain rare fruits, "fancy" bread, etc, all of which are below $5 and last you a week or two if stored properly.
It's really silly, but the simple act of paying all my bills on the first day of the month makes me feel very rich and grateful. When I pay all my home expenses, my social security payment, and I leave my budget for groceries for the month, it's great. I have met so many people who struggle with this, even people with high incomes who are always struggling with lawyers and late payment requirements, and this must be so stressful. So have the possibility to be debt-free, and be on time on my basic expenses is great.
It’s not silly at all, I am the same. Pay everything first, then manage on what we have left. It gives us peace of mind, not to mention less stress. 😊😊😊
I love that too. I always pay my bills early as I can if i have the money sitting around for it. If not i might over estimate how much i have and accidentally spend it before the bills due and not having the money there when the bills due.
When my apartment is clean, everything feels brighter and more beautiful and I appreciate my space so much more. It makes me more proud of where I live and my mindset is definitely tied to my surroundings.
I am still amazed at how I can be pleasantly suprised by the good way I feel when I look around my spotlessly clean home, no matter how bad my mood was to start with.
These things are smart ideas but there is a significant portion of the US population that doesn’t have there luxury (yes, luxury) of even having a savings account with a few hundred bucks in it. And living below your means is impossible if the amount coming in isn’t even enough to cover there most basic of needs. Everyone knows this advice but its a useless platitude to people whose circumstances make this feel like an impossibly lofty ideal.
I love that Chelsea encourages managing your personal finances in a way that you can still have peace and joy while working towards your goals instead of encouraging inflicting personal suffering and a scorched earth lifestyle. Just because you went into debt doesn't mean you deserve to suffer the entire time you work your way out of it. Love your content TFD team!
I first felt rich when I realized I could use money to solve problems. In particular, one time we were running late to the airport. We had intended to park in long-term parking, but doing so required parking far away from the terminal, waiting forever for a shuttle that made a zillion stops, etc. We just didn't have time for that. We realized that we could still make it if we parked right in front of the terminal in short-term parking. We knew doing so would cost a few hundred dollars. But it was worth not missing our flight, so we did it. We used money to solve a problem. At a different time in our lives this would have been inconceivable, but now it was not a huge deal. And that's when we realized we were rich. This doesn't apply to every income, but that's my number one.
"Part of feeling rich is having what you need when you need it." Truer words were never spoken. I can't tell you what getting out of debt and being able to fix my car or replacing a pair of worn-out shoes when I need has done for my sense of feeling rich.
I think this could also be called "living with dignity" which can be achieved no matter how little money one has. Intention truly is the key. Thank you for this, I'll be sharing it.
The 17 dislikes are people on $500k salaries living in gated communities gazing longingly at their neighbour's slightly bigger McMansion who feel personally attacked by Chelsea's savage tea
I have disliked this because it is inaccurate. Most gated communities will purposely build homes of similar sizes because the wealthy don’t wish to see income disparity.
Because I watched the financial diet I had the courage to change my workplace and opt for something totally different and I just want to thank you. It's the best decision that I have made ❤️❤️❤️
Don't bathe your cats, they are self cleaning, and bathing them can actually cause increased shedding and skin issues. --advice from a veterinary nurse and former groomer
On dressing well. My father had this down to a fine art. At the start of the season he would go and try on the clothes to get the right look and sizing. Then when the sales came he knew exactly what he wanted to pick up.
When I first moved out, most of my stuff was 2nd hand. Over time, I replaced it with stuff that was mostly on markdown at a significant discount. Lately, I buy mostly new, but it's mostly quality stuff to replace that stuff that I had previously and the stuff I had previously goes to a 2nd hand shop for redistribution. I do think that people should realize that there's a fairly nice stuff that can be had 2nd hand and that if they just replace the stuff that they use so much they wear out, they can save a lot of money on things that weren't contributing anyways.
Instead of depending fully on single use items (paper towels, napkins), go ahead and reduce those and buy some cloth napkins and cloth towels for cleaning your counters, and the kitchen towels for standard kitchen towel uses lol. It saves money and you’ll never run out! I keep a roll or two of paper towels around because I have pets, but other than that I always use cloth. And how rich will you feel eating your dinner with linen napkins :)
One pack of toilet paper since the beginning of pandemic thanks to a bidet and a stack of wash cloths. I go though maybe one 6 pack of paper towels a year, if that? There are a lot of swaps where being low waste isn't obviously money saving, but these definitely are
I also decided to try a natural sponge for dishes because 1) it's cool 2) it will be used longer than a synthetic one. Stocking is interesting but shifting some products for those which will be used longer / will expire later is such a joy, especially if they are eco friendly and natural, don't cause allergies and so on. I mean I am not much of an eco geek but I like that eco products are better for health (or at least less damaging), often are good in quality (like EU eco cleaning products) and live longer so you can by some of them (some sponges or cloth) less often. I mean many quite unusual purchases for some turn out to be nice spending habits on a long run. Like investing less in fast fashion and buying vintage clothes made of better quality fabric and with better stitches.
I also started avoiding cheap jewellery - not to buy the most expensive, to buy a good quality jewellery from gold and silver (usually it is gifted by fiancee though). Cheap would give reactions, especially with ears if it's earrings. So I switched to natural quality metal, yet it's normal market price and minimalistic design - the same logic like with fast fashion, really. So no allergies for me, it doesn't rust, it's still beautiful after long time. And yes gives the feeling of rich even if it's once bought (I don't stock jewellery, I don't have a lot and don't aim too haha) pair of earrings for like 130$ on a trip. Basically, long time perspective thinking helps to avoid bad purchases so well. I think long time thinking is the reason she advises to pre-stock things.
Wow this is so true! Love your content! Money is neutral. But money is like a magnifying glass. It will magnify that which is within you. So if you are selfish on the inside, money will magnify that selfishness. If you are broken within you, money will magnify that brokenness. But if you are good, kind, grateful and selfless, guess what, money will magnify all those good stuff in you. You are such an inspiration. Thanks!
Good list, here is imo what’s missing: 1. Do hobbies, but don’t just focus on hobbies. Gain skills so your market value allows you to leave jobs you hate or get laid off without fear. 2. Gain charisma. Practice talking to diverse sets of people so you have value to anyone you talk to. I have a lot of interests and probably have talked to more diverse people successfully than most, you can do it! It opens doors. 3. Act on your word or your plans. Be someone who has an idea and executes it, you will be seen as successful even if some fail, and you’ll feel great knowing you went for it. Rich people take action. If you meet someone at a bar with the same dream, start operating on a plan there and then with your new connection, don’t let your anxiety get the best of you. Regret is a foul beast. 4. Travel. Make it small if you have to, just a weekend in another state, but leave your routine for a while both for your mental health but also so you can look your life objectively. Rich people thrive in control of their time, but also critiquing their bad habits. 5. Be the initiator. Invite people for dinner, make the first move on making plans, be confident you have value and show people you aren’t afraid to show your true self and enjoy new perspectives. 6. Scope out community events or lectures and attend. Rich people see opportunities to grow in getting out; go to lectures at your local museum or attend your town hall meetings. Get involved in your towns politics. Entering intellectual and communal circles gives you the chance to participate in and change communities. Becoming a community known figure will make you very rich in relationships and power. 7. Get some sort of therapy or life coach, or personal trainer. It’s gotten cheap enough that the poorest(me) can afford these luxuries. Improving yourself can be done, but it’s easier with a guide. You will feel, look, and sound better and feel more confident. Richness is an attitude first. 8. Write letters. Not all the time, but when prudent. The effort you put in will be rewarded in respect from the recipient, be it a family member or a Congress person. Indicate you are putting in time for someone, and they will make you feel like a king or queen. 9. Eat well. Remember what you are eating at one time was only reserved for the richest in the land, and appreciate it. Don’t just get McDonald’s, sample food from other cultures and try using exotic ingredients. Learn to cook too, offer it to people. Their appreciation, and your well earned pride in becoming a person of the world, will make you feel as loved and respected as any prince. 9. Teach. Not all the time if you don’t want to, but try it. Knowledge is power, impart the knowledge you have gracefully and make someone better for it. If you don’t have any skills to teach, it’s an indicator you must learn yourself. Alexander the Great was impressive, but his tutor who taught him everything he knew was more so. Be a mentor, and you will feel rich as anyone on earth in the process. 10. Read. Stretch your mind, don’t just learn skills, learn to THINK. Study logic, for 10 dollars a book can teach you every way you evaluate your beliefs is wrong, and it’s great. It helped me! Rich people are rarely the best at what they do, but they are crafty and know how to think and bring abstract puzzles together. Become an out of the box thinker with all the afore mentioned habits, and the world is yours. Good luck.
You are a good writer. Organize your thoughts well. I’m saving your list. Thank you for taking the extra effort to reach others like yourself. Excellent work!
I definitely was not stressed in the early days of the pandemic since we always buy at Costco 🤷🏽♀️didn’t expect that little tidbit to tie us over with all the cleaning products including toilet paper 😁
Yeah, as a student on a small income it makes an enormous difference. I feel such peace of mind when I have cupboard essentials and home supplies stocked with one or two extra. I feel so anxious when I'm worried that I'll run out of things haha
It's been really hard to get some people to understand why I put so much care into these things. It makes a huge impact in the *feel* of your life esp at a lower income
Keep seeking wisdom & doing the right thing. Closest friends should share your world view. Be polite but don't worry about others. You are ahead of them... Check out Proverbs/ from the Bible.
When I moved into my last apt, I bought cleaning/general supplies for the year and although expensive up front, that was easily one of the best things I could have done for myself
Yes! I just joined Grove & I get high end green cleaning products delivered every 1-3 months, depending on use. They also have candles, laundry supplies, all kinds of goodies! My house is clean & smells beautiful & I feel fancy because I have high end cleaning supplies & hand soaps! Lol
My husband and I call those personal money - Ice cream money .We also always thank each other almost for everything-cooked dinner, served glass of ice water, laundry done ..Nothing feel as good as hear genuine Thank You and than dance in a living room or a kitchen...Lots special happy moments -great enrichment in anyone life.
The color trend you were talking about actually holds some weight! As important as tailoring and finding fits that are good for you are, figuring out what colors and shades are actually good for you based on skin undertones, your features (hair and eye color and depth) and picking colors that are the right hue and intensity for you is one of the best ways to always feel like you look good! Color is a huge part of that. It’s not totally a scam, lol. It’s nothing to obsess over, but it’s something to keep in mind! Tomato red might make you look splotchy, but a cooler burgundy could look incredible, for example!
I know, it was a craze back then but the truth is the right colors in clothing and makeup make you look so much more put together, and your clothes look more expensive, plus a compliment or two about how nice your skin looks today makes you feel like a million bucks😎👌
I love bright colours. But always, when i put on grey or a muted blue i look so good, clean and expensive. Its crazy. Intensity and warm/cool undertones are really important. The rest is chichi imho.
Love the advice :D I always make my bed after breakfast though. I find that beds need to air out before being covered. So I fold back the blanket and remove all pillows and open the window for 10 mins. The sheets stay fresher for a longer period of time. Also, the mattress can release any moisture that built up over night.
I took a "philosophy of happiness" class in college and we talked about a study that found day-to-day happiness usually ceases to increase after making $75k a year, provided the earner doesn't have exorbitant debts to repay or other massive expenses.
Yea but even if its not 75K, its 100K max even in NYC or SF. You don't really need that much money for basic happiness. Maybe for a private jet though.
A paraphrased definition for the term "behind the eight ball" is: to be in a losing position, or at a disadvantage. I looked it up and thought I'd post it here for others who may not know because I didn't either. She uses it a few times in this video.
Yea it’s a billiards/pool hall term. The eight ball is the ball you need to hit in to win after you hit all your other balls in prior. Sometimes a ball you need can be ‘behind the eight ball’ creating an obstacle between you and your overall goal. Important to know you can navigate these situations just as you can in life
I got my color wheel done and look so much better since. I wear colors that make me look healthy, happy, refreshed. When I wear clothing that isn't part of my color wheel, I look tired, drained, or sick. It is so much easier when I go shopping because I only look for my colors. These color wheels are based on your skin, eyes, and hair color. It has nothing to do with astrology.
A big part of keeping your space clean is to create a *space to put the clothes you've worn once* and want to to wear again, even if it's just your pajamas. Get a handful of hooks on your wall or door, assign some space in your closet, just _stop throwing your clothes from your chair to your bed and back._ Or even on the floor. Hang them, in a proper place. Nothing makes me feel more luxurious in the morning than having neat and aired out clothes that I don't have to search out of a pile.
I really appreciate these tips. What I got from the video was that you can "feel rich" by trying to use your time or what money you do have to reduce stress in your life and that although money is a tool you can use to reduce stress, having money does not guarantee that you'll actually do that.
I find cleaning in waiting time works better than a routine I'll avoid. I will set a timer to fully clean on the weekend but I have so little time at home during the week that I'm not wiped that it's psychologically much easier to just tidy while I cook or to fill out an hour or during commercials etc etc.
On gratitude I recently got the advice: take the positives from work with you home and take the positive things from home with you to work. As in talk about the positive things. It is just as important and often even more important than talking about your problems. Be attracted to positive and happy things.
Just recently come across this channel and it's been lifechanging. This episode resonated so much too! My very wise Grandma who grew up relatively poor would always instil in us the importance of keeping a an clean and organised home as this costs nothing. When I have felt under stress financially, I have always found that keeping things organised, clean and arranged has helped me mentally. Thanks so much for all these brilliant videos
I got my house professionally organized today. It felt like a luxury (supplied by my father and his wife) that I did not deserve but seriously needed. The place doesn't feel like my house anymore because it's way less chaotic and I'm not used to the sudden openness of it, but I'm going to try and keep it organized from now on. Wish me luck! 😅🤞
Excellent. Have lived this way for so many years, through good incomes and poor incomes, and even through times of no income. Two things come to mind: be content with your wages (and what you have) and cleanliness is next to godliness. Those two Biblical principles cover a lot. Love to hear how well you understand and apply good financial principles and how you share them with others. Thank you.
Neither of those are in the Bible though. “Be content with what you have” is, but I think it’s notable that it doesn’t say wages. Case in point, Jacob’s uncle Laban changed his wages ten times and that was rightly called unjust. So the Bible actually says “the worker deserves his wages.” That offers room for those who aren’t being given what they’ve rightfully earned to seek justice. “Cleanliness is next to godliness” isn’t the Bible, but what IS in the Bible is “godliness with contentment is great gain,” which I think is even more powerful.
I grew up poor. Just to have and maintain the basics was a huge source of stress and anxiety. I feel rich now because I can provide the basic plus extra comfort for my family. My children doesn’t have to grow up with the stress and anxiety I had to. I’m always saving and investing. It helps me feel a sense of security which makes me feel rich.
Thought I'd share some random thing I do to feel richer: -plenty of socks and underwear (I buy bulk and colors I like it makes me feel prepared) -Grocery shopping on a certain day of my week and sticking to my budget (it prevents me from feeling like "ugh I have nothing to make!) -wearing some jewelry I feel good it in doesn't matter how cheap or how expensive I get jewelry at thrift stores -excercising in the morning -picking beauty products or body c are products that have scents I'm in love with
Taking this moment to say I am grateful for my body. My IUD perforated my uterus about a week ago and for months before I was angry at my body for the new low appetite, nausea, and consitent vomiting. I thought my body was failing me. Instead it was my body trying to get out the thing that didn't belong. So, I am grateful for my beautiful body telling me it needed help. ♥️
Knowing your personal ‘colour scheme’ or ‘season’ is actually very useful and can reduce unnecessary shopping greatly. It’s about what colours look good on you and make you feel confident and powerful. If you know that, you will avoid buying a bunch of clothes that just doesn’t do it for you, and then have ‘nothing to wear’. So maybe don’t dismiss that approach. That doesn’t work with interior design, you can look good and feel powerful in any colour 😄
I’ve seen these cleaning/decluttering tips over and over again, and I think they’re 100% true! But what I would LOVE to see is how to keep implementing these routines when you live with a partner who isn’t really on board/doesn’t see clutter/leaves cleaning until the last minute and doesn’t understand the value of those routines!
Oh my God this drives me CRAZY when my sister and my dad don't see the dust and the dirt and the clutter, and don't seem to mind. Honestly, I think if a partner respects you enough he/she will make an effort to clean up mote/ watch the clutter etc. Because YOU feel uncomfortable otherwise. (not that they have to clean up your stuff, but just watch their stuff more is what I mean.) if they don't make an effort I honestly just think that's rude, disrespectful and lazy. I would try to have a serious conversation with them about this topic and trying to explain to them how important a clean space is for you, your well being, your mental health, and you happiness, and if they love and respect you, they should make this a priority!!
Give him/her a designated clutter space. Empty a closet and tell him/her that's where his/her clutter can go. Throw everything he/she lets looming around into his/her closet. Don't bother organize it, keep the door closed. If he/she doesn't want to dive into that crowded closet to find his/her stuff, he/she will start putting it away. It's out of your way and your home looks clean and organized always.
@@f.-j.j.5738 This is great advise! I kind of do this too with my sisters stuff, because I don't care about her room (it's always a mess, but that doesn't bother me). I think this really works!
Watch ClutterBug's channel. She tries to have designated spaces for clutter to go ("mail goes all over the dining room table? Put a basket there so it's easy to move mail off the table to eat"). She also emphasizes changing your mindset about cleaning and decluttering. You declutter and clean to make you happy, not to pressure your family. Edit: I used to be a complete slob and would break down and get overwhelmed while cleaning. My husband was more of a neat freak. Lots of conversations and working together.
I would begin having your own personal things each in their own place. Then begin your daily 20 minute daily clutter duty. On the days that your partner wants you to do something for or with him, begin your 20 minutes and tell him that if he does 10 minutes on his own (without asking you things) while you do your 10 minutes - that will cut down the time and you can get to his stuff sooner. If you do this 10 times in a row, he will begin to know you mean it. Don't explain - pin your lips together.
I try to label every storage area in my apartment with what I'm keeping there. It's been so helpful in staying organized, and takes that little extra mental step out of putting things away. If you have executive dysfunction issues like me, I super recommend it. :)
As I'm watching this I realize I am out of dishwasher detergent under the sink. I go to my closet to get a new bottle...#winning. Love all of your advice!
Keeping things like paper towels, toothpaste, tp, etc. make me feel like I'm a billionaire. I also like to have a fridge stocked and organized with various beverages for guests. Great video!
My salary is above average ($70k) but I don't envy those richer than me, I pity them for their constant need for more (and also despise some for exploiting their workers, but that's a different story). I feel like I am in control and have exactly what I want, and I do treat myself from time to time. I feel rich.
Totally agree with buying essentials in (reasonable) bulk. When lockdown toilet paper craze hit, I didn't have to stress about it because I'm used to ordering a 24pack from whatever decent brand has a discount at the time every couple of months. 😅
Same. I think the richest 🤣 i felt recently is putting shelves in the storage room, organising it and and use half of it as a pantry for stocking essentials.
I think the hours are a little inaccurate. I work in the warehouse field and on peak seasons we work up to 12 hrs a day 6‐7 days/wk. Many of my coworkers have to work part time jobs on top of that because they're single parents or the head of the household. Once I met a guy working 3 part-time jobs to barely meet ends and sleep only 3-4 hours daily! I tried to have children w/o success, but now I realize my course might ended up working better for me
I fully understand the reasoning behind "make your bed right away"... but at the same time, as far as I know, you should put the duvet away for some time (maybe half an hour) and give your matress some time to "breathe", dry and cool down. Also trying to remove dead skin cells from the pillows and sheets to not feed the dust mites. I've seen this tip and people making the bed by just covering up the matress right after getting up way to often and finally needed to comment this :D
I don't leave dishes in the sink overnight cuz I hate the way it looks, dislike dealing with it in the morning, and I feel it keeps critters at bay. People are always surprised that I wash my dishes before eating (not during holidays, though). I cover my food in saran wrap to keep it warm. It's annoying at first but NOT doing dishes after a relaxing meal is much more annoying imo. Having a cluttered home throws off my concentration, so I clean up here and there regularly. I like how this video explains the psychology behind these actions.
Money definitely contributes to happiness. When the worry of taking care of your family is eliminated, theres a certain level of happiness! Thanks for this video!
Chelsea is my absolutely fave! She’s comforting, no bullshit and so creative! I’m implementing these tips ASAP, I could really do with feeling a little rich right now! Thanks Chelsea and TFD! 🥰
I like my food hot enough to burn my mouth, so I can't do the FINAL dishes before eating -- I gotta get it right outta the pan and into my face holes -- but I do as many dishes as possible while actually prepping and cooking and it definitely helps a ton!
I started adopting the habit of doing dishes as soon as possible, and I try to wash what I can while the food is cooking (this if course depends on what I'm making)
Right now I feel "rich" because I have health, money(grant it, to get by for a few months only), and love. As soon as health is gone, my life will be upside down.
Dear Chelsea, thank you for everything that you and the TFD team do and stand for! You helped me to stay sane and on top of my budget game during these difficult times....Even though I lost my student job due to covid and even though I had a few huge unexpected expenses in the last 3 months (our dog got diagnosed with epilepsy and we had to spend almost 1000$ on vets and medication; also our home water-usage counter broke so we had to pay 500$ for water that we never actually spent - for comparison sake, we usually pay around 30$ for our monthly water utility bill). Somehow, thanks to your tips and tricks for budget reorganization and debt pay-off plans, we managed it! I even found some room in my budget for 10 different online classes to keep me occupied during quarantine, while filling up my CV with new skills that I could monetize afterwards....thank you once again! xx Aurora
The, "Everything has a place" is amazing. The tape and the box cutter are always in this drawer, no matter what makes things so much easier. New books go here on the shelf. Electronics go in this drawer. It's fantastic.
It may be a little silly, but I make my bed in two ways. During the week, it's just straightening the sheets and fluffing the pillow i sleep on, but on weekends, i will also put on all the throw pillows that make up the set. it makes my weekend bed just a little more special.
Stocking up ahead of time also helps in that you can buy products when they go on sale rather than always paying full price. Economizing with the little things helps build up the frivolity budget: I was recently able to guilt-free book a self-catering stay plus dinner out for my fiancé's birthday. It's the one thing I splurge on each year and never regret it.
Another benefit of stocking your regular supplies is that you can buy them in quantity on sale rather than at full price when you need them. I do this with quite a number of things, I just have to make sure that I don't stock too much of anything with an expiry date.
totally agree with the first recommendation (I am just at the first one now)! I am living at my friend's place for a little over a month which is very cluttered (in my mind). I feel stressful. I feel more frustrated when I am paying my bills. Before living at my friend's place, I lived in my clean and tidy apartment. I felt the control and sometimes I felt I was doing well in terms of wealth management. Before watching this video, I didn't realize that living in a clean house can make us feel rich.
The one item I practice is to always have a back up of toothpaste and face wash. It does give the rich ambiance for me. But clutter as a maximalist gives me joy. Empty spaces with an odd number of curated items just doesn't feel like home to me.
12th comment Keeping your home clean Avoid clutter Fully stock your home supplies Find a color scheme Make time for your hobby Find small space to control Routine Practice gratitude Why those things are fulfilling for you?
There are many people who work 2 & 3 minimum wage jobs. They do not have a spending problem, but earning difficulties . They do not have the money to take advantage of things that are on sale. They are just trying to exist! Unfortunately, some of these people are unable to take advantage of your sage advice.
I've been practicing this for the past month, I'm definitely winning 🙌🏽 but all because I replay your videos at the start of my morning to fill in the white noise 😌 Thank you 💕
I have been watching for over a year and this is my favourite video so far. I feel very on track thanks to all your tips on finance and this made me feel very thankful and grateful
This is possibly one of the best videos you've made :) I appreciate this because the finance UA-cam space is plagued with a lot of 'how to earn more', 'how to be richer' videos. And it's more tactical on the money side which is actually a never-ending conversation because as time passes (inflaationnnn~) and technology evolves, there will always be new, different methods to earning more. But not a lot focus on the mindset aspect. The 'gratitude' aspect of self-care/self-love is almost always thrown out there in a way that's context-less and not actionable save for the usual 'journal the things youre thankful for'. While you included that tip here, it's part of a larger mindset/discipline, and is largely an activity to reinforce a viewpoint. I know this was shared 2 years ago, but the message of this will remain timeless, imho. Spoke so hard to me, especially now that the new year is coming and I need some life rejigging. Thank you for this. :)
I feel rich and extra fancy when I practice dancing. I love the waltz, tango, and salsa! If I keep practicing for another 6 months and prove that I will practice dancing in the long term, then I will allow myself to invest in a good pair of dancing shoes!! For now, it's flats and thrifted flowy dresses!🥰
You should find a lovely accent color you love though. That's what you were wanting when you got those red items. Maybe amber/burnt tangerine. Thanks Chelsea this was fantastic.
1. Keep your home clean. 2. Avoid Clutter 3. Fully Stock your home supplies 4. Find a color scheme 5. Make time for a hobby 6. Find ways to feel empowered 7. Routines, routines, routines 8. Remember to Treat Yourself
My own 9 ideas: 1. Using nice dishes 2. Drinking loose tea even if I'm alone 3. Wearing clean and pressed clothes and clean shoes 4. Sewing my own clothes 5. Using a fountain pen with bottled ink (sounds expensive, but it doesn't have to be) 6. Using low-waste options (natural bar soap, safety razor, fresh food, etc) 7. Indulging in some non-digital hobby (sewing, reading real books, drawing, playing music, etc) 8. Connecting with nature (even if it's a park or a botanical garden in the city) and having picnics 9. Looking after my work environment (our office doesn't get deep cleaned as often as it should be)
I love this list. Keeping things clean and having a really tidy environment is at the top of my list, and I agree with you on the loose leaf tea! It's a nice little work day luxury I enjoy also :)
I’d agree with routines - it creates a proper structure in your day so you feel more in control of your own life! Especially now with the on again and off again furloughs, creating a solid routine to follow daily helps you feel much more put together in your day! 💯
I really felt a number of these things were things you just had to start doing to "adult, " but perhaps I was just a very practical 18 year old. I realized very quickly when I started post secondary that it was very bad to not have quick access to matching socks and keys when running out the door to schooling that you chose and paid for.
Thanks for the tip on emergency fund - year ago I setted up an automated payment for unplanned car repair. Last month I used that money to pay for major brakes repair. It felt amaizing to know that I could easly affort it with my savings :D
My mother taught me to always purchase basic items as soon as you open the last one, or when you open the next to last one of harder to find or most often used items. This saved my *as when covid hit. ❤️
Nice scented candles, lots of them. Hot baths, with some scented candles. Very expensive teas and coffee that I bought by the pound and was way cheaper than coffee houses. A fire on my back porch. A water fountain. Good sheets. Down comforter. A dinning table that is always set. Really cool loungewear. Friends and family.
This is the first video I’ve seen of yours and I’m blown away! This is spot on perfection. It’s always been easy to compare what I don’t have to others and to think I just need too hit that next target to feel rich enough. But this is challenging me to look at my money from a more emotional pov and less from an “intellectual logical” pov that actually is proving less logical because it makes me more miserable! I can look at what makes me feel positive emotions and invest in those things too! Thank you! Thank you! I’m excited to check out your channel!
To 'feel rich' is a weird expression. Or you are rich or you are not. I live on a budget, I'm considered middle class, so I'm poor and I can live with that. I work to earn a living hoping to get better, but reality is what it is. I want to feel happy, comfortable and be healthy for I actually know rich people who isn't happy or healthy.
Something about the practice gratitude bit really hit me. I take much more pleasure in my personal hygiene routine when I relish in my sudsy body washes, silky lotions and nice smelling perfumes. Being thankful for the small physical, and overall mood lifting pleasures that they give me, make me feel like a princess. Thank you for reminding me to put this back into my routine.
I was just getting my TFD fix while straightening my hair (it's long and curly so it takes forever) and I ended on this one. I love reading the website, and the videos are so great too! Thanks, Chelsea and everyone else at TFD!
The best way to "feeling in control of your expenses" is by setting realistic but difficult medium-term goals. Like goals that are doable, but take quite some effort over a few months. Everytime you succeed you get some satisfaction out of it. Like paying off a certain amount of debt, or if you're debtfree, saving up for some high ticket item without using credit. Those high ticket items have additional perceived value because you've put in effort, and they also make sure you don't waste money on all sorts of cheap clutter instead.
I am affirmations and practicing gratitude are the only paths to happiness. The wealthiest among us are those who work the most. Happiness is another story.
Your point about 'feeling rich gives you control', it make me think that some of us may me aspiring to be/feel rich (someday) so that we can pretend we currently have no control over our lives (today), because we may subconsciously prefer to be told what to do/ how to feel. A thought.

Warmth! Yes! That’s a top notch, primal instinct feeling. Everyone loves having a shelter, being warm in the cold and feeling cozy. I’m all for it to make it in the list
Buying good bread always makes me feel fancy. Also making coffee at home with beans from a local roastery, that's a fancy routine that keeps me sane.
If you buy beans from a coffee shop, they’ll often grind them for you for free if you ask! Depends on the shop though. That way you don’t need to buy a grinder, and they often use burr grinders which are better anyway!
@@hollyherald7324 Yeah, but freshly-grinded coffee is heaven!
I can relate 1000% with coffee. And also with fresh fruit and vegetables from local market or when I pick herbs in the forrest and then make herbal tea.
I treat myself to bedsheets with a high thread count. When the lights are out and i'm in bed, i feel like a millionaire. lol
Same here! Paying my bills before the due date makes me feel relaxed and rich 🙂
It’s not silly at all, I am the same. Pay everything first, then manage on what we have left. It gives us peace of mind, not to mention less stress. 😊😊😊
Not so silly. It's called being in control. 😊
Gratitude makes you rich
I love that too. I always pay my bills early as I can if i have the money sitting around for it. If not i might over estimate how much i have and accidentally spend it before the bills due and not having the money there when the bills due.
When my apartment is clean, everything feels brighter and more beautiful and I appreciate my space so much more. It makes me more proud of where I live and my mindset is definitely tied to my surroundings.
Totally agree with you 👍😊
I am still amazed at how I can be pleasantly suprised by the good way I feel when I look around my spotlessly clean home, no matter how bad my mood was to start with.
Me too. I feel proud of a clean space- and it makes me look at what I have and being grateful and taking care of what I have.

Yes back to basic is the way to go.😎😳😊😎
These things are smart ideas but there is a significant portion of the US population that doesn’t have there luxury (yes, luxury) of even having a savings account with a few hundred bucks in it. And living below your means is impossible if the amount coming in isn’t even enough to cover there most basic of needs.
Everyone knows this advice but its a useless platitude to people whose circumstances make this feel like an impossibly lofty ideal.
@@talghow-i2326there are a lot of people who can't afford the basics.
8:06 😎
I think this could also be called "living with dignity" which can be achieved no matter how little money one has. Intention truly is the key. Thank you for this, I'll be sharing it.

There are a lot of swaps where being low waste isn't obviously money saving, but these definitely are
@@supernova622 same!
I agree, I use cloth napkins and China daily. I've got to do laundry anyway, might as well use cloth napkins and dishrags
Thanks!
Yes - they multiply the psychological traits you already have, agree
Good list, here is imo what’s missing:
Good luck.

Lately I have set aside a little $ to buy a lovely bouquet of flowers from the local grocery store. The first bunch lasted almost a month !
Yes! I do the same!!
I buy blooming flowers that will blossom again. Having flowers makes me feel so luxurious.
Love the advice :D I always make my bed after breakfast though. I find that beds need to air out before being covered. So I fold back the blanket and remove all pillows and open the window for 10 mins. The sheets stay fresher for a longer period of time. Also, the mattress can release any moisture that built up over night.
I took a "philosophy of happiness" class in college and we talked about a study that found day-to-day happiness usually ceases to increase after making $75k a year, provided the earner doesn't have exorbitant debts to repay or other massive expenses.
that probably depends where a person lives. $75 K can buy you different amount of things in different places.

Thank you!

Yes and I wish I knew where she got that necklace. I think I’d feel rich if I had one like it!

Thank you.
Same here! The sound advice that can be found in the Bible for every area of human life - regardless of place and time- is literally priceless!
Cleanliness being next to godliness is not in the Bible.
Thought I'd share some random thing I do to feel richer:
-plenty of socks and underwear (I buy bulk and colors I like it makes me feel prepared)
-Grocery shopping on a certain day of my week and sticking to my budget (it prevents me from feeling like "ugh I have nothing to make!)
-wearing some jewelry I feel good it in doesn't matter how cheap or how expensive I get jewelry at thrift stores
-excercising in the morning
-picking beauty products or body c are products that have scents I'm in love with
Taking this moment to say I am grateful for my body.
That "AWWWEE" she did when talking about the paper towels sounded SO nice.
Concept of feeling wealthy. The little things do matter. I like how you talked about the color around you.
Totally agree with buying essentials in (reasonable) bulk. When lockdown toilet paper craze hit, I didn't have to stress about it because I'm used to ordering a 24pack from whatever decent brand has a discount at the time every couple of months. 😅
Same here. Lol!
Same. I think the richest 🤣 i felt recently is putting shelves in the storage room, organising it and and use half of it as a pantry for stocking essentials.
I had a bidet already by then so I was set 😎
I think the hours are a little inaccurate. I work in the warehouse field and on peak seasons we work up to 12 hrs a day 6‐7 days/wk. Many of my coworkers have to work part time jobs on top of that because they're single parents or the head of the household. Once I met a guy working 3 part-time jobs to barely meet ends and sleep only 3-4 hours daily!
I tried to have children w/o success, but now I realize my course might ended up working better for me
Those hours are heartbreakingly criminal.
Sounds like he's suffering from financial abuse.
Good video. People forget you need to feel rich mentally and emotionally as well.
Thank u for dispelling the myth that money can’t buy happiness.
Money definitely contributes to happiness. When the worry of taking care of your family is eliminated, theres a certain level of happiness! Thanks for this video!
Best, most inspiring and optimistic video of the year. Thank you, Chelsea!
Chelsea is my absolutely fave! She’s comforting, no bullshit and so creative! I’m implementing these tips ASAP, I could really do with feeling a little rich right now! Thanks Chelsea and TFD! 🥰
One thing I have thoroughly enjoyed is an ambient cafe or library with thunderstorms or jazz on YT on my tv.
The next 1-2 years is gonna be exciting!
Yes I have learnt a lot of things from this year and I'm looking forward to practise them.
@@alexjason2640 learning to make money and extra income stream is the best part of it !
2020 was not really that bad at all
@@riccardogiuseppe6635 yeah it is! I have recently started to earn $3000 weekly from my investment.
That's my new extra income stream
Investing is a great way to grow extra income stream. I'm recently working on my finances
@@michelle-rose how did you make as much as $3k ? Please share some tips
Shopping at the end of the month makes me feel rich. Most people I know are broke around then.

Keeping your home clean
Avoid clutter
Fully stock your home supplies
Find a color scheme
Make time for your hobby
Find small space to control
Routine
Practice gratitude
Why those things are fulfilling for you?
Donating to charity (whatever little amount) or a cause you genuinely care for can also make you feel good/rich. Philanthropy is good.

There are many people who work 2 & 3 minimum wage jobs. They do not have a spending problem, but earning difficulties . They do not have the money to take advantage of things that are on sale. They are just trying to exist! Unfortunately, some of these people are unable to take advantage of your sage advice.
I find spending more on the simple daily things you use makes you feel more luxurious each day
Yeah! Like buying good quality food and stuff at the grocery store.... Feels really good!
I use my China and crystal every day. Why save for a special occasion
Love this video. Some of the things we implicitly know, like to keep a clean and intentional space, but it's always nice to have them explicated.
2. Avoid Clutter
3. Fully Stock your home supplies
4. Find a color scheme
5. Make time for a hobby
6. Find ways to feel empowered
7. Routines, routines, routines
8. Remember to Treat Yourself
My own 9 ideas:
1. Using nice dishes
2. Drinking loose tea even if I'm alone
3. Wearing clean and pressed clothes and clean shoes
4. Sewing my own clothes
5. Using a fountain pen with bottled ink (sounds expensive, but it doesn't have to be)
6. Using low-waste options (natural bar soap, safety razor, fresh food, etc)
7. Indulging in some non-digital hobby (sewing, reading real books, drawing, playing music, etc)
8. Connecting with nature (even if it's a park or a botanical garden in the city) and having picnics
I totally agree with you!...I also got into crypto investment when the covid hit,and trust me it sure has been amazing!!
I mine Bitcoin everyday on my phone
Nice scented candles, lots of them.
Hot baths, with some scented candles.
Very expensive teas and coffee that I bought by the pound and was way cheaper than coffee houses.
A fire on my back porch.
A water fountain.
Good sheets. Down comforter.
A dinning table that is always set.
Really cool loungewear.
Friends and family.
The psychology behind all these is incredible. Thank you so much!
Yes! I love this- reducing clutter and organizing makes me feel so so much better
Great tips!
I was just getting my TFD fix while straightening my hair (it's long and curly so it takes forever) and I ended on this one. I love reading the website, and the videos are so great too! Thanks, Chelsea and everyone else at TFD!
I hadn’t thought about keeping my space clean as part of this. You always have brilliant and practical insights. Thank you! Love your releases.
A thought.
I was really interested in what things could make a person feel rich, but Chelsea, you really delivered! These are great tips!
