Hi Vikranth! Very useful piece for all the ones who are considering Carens. Thank you. I own a 6 year old Audi A4 tdi which does a the once in 2 month’s 14 hours drive to Kanyakumari (from Chennai). It’s my wife, 4 year old kid and myself mostly and rarely the grandparents join the trip. My wife loved the 6 seated configuration and we are considering the Carens for it not feeling too bulky for our city use and has a flexible seating especially for our highway use. Thus far it’s evident that we like the following over our Audi: 1. Sense of space 2. More seats when needed 3. Features However we are curious to know if the car would keep us happy throughout the 14 hours drive in terms of comfort and good feel. Also let me know if I must be worried about the reliability of the DCT.
I'm switching from a VW Vento. And have same thoughts. I doubt the ride comfort and control are gonna be the same. I feel it's obviously not. Cause German cars and Korean cars are world apart in many ways. Pls do reply and tell what u decided and if it's worthwhile. Considering your reply a year ago hoping u made a decision and have experienced it. Would help me make a decision. I'm considering carens vs a used Skoda kodiaq.
@@nikhithhm I bought a Carens turbocharged 1.4 petrol top end more than a year ago. It’s been a great experience from the perspective of everything else except dynamism. Ride comfort, space, creature comfort, cabin quality, smoothness, NVH etc are the positives. It is a safe and good handler but not exciting. Thats the only place where Carens lacks especially against the likes of Kodiaq. Since I came from an A4 I can even say that it’s not lacking in the aspect of feeling good and premium. Fabulous Review Vikranth Sir! Just one more thing that I would like to know. Which one will be a better choice to pick between Carens Petrol DCT and Diesel AT. Hi. Excellent review clarifying the position between the petrols. I extend compliments on content, language and diction. Considering the climbing price of diesel and the nominal difference between the price of the diesel and petrol variants of the carens, which one would you recommend between the diesel and turbo petrol carens to move a family of 7 for roughly 8000- 10000 km per year. As always came across as an encyclopaedia of cars. I have been following your reviews irrespective of my capability to buy either car or bike. I have one suggestion, I do agree that many would love to see what's in the to model but the reality is many end in the second or even the third varient of the car. So kindly if possible include this in your upcoming reviews.
Firstly, thank you! And yes, we agree, we shouid feature more versions than just top spec ones. But the challenge for us is that media cars are mostly available in top spec. And as it turns out, top spec versions of cars - no matter what price point - seem to sell the most! But, it’s a fair point and we will try to bring in a perspective from the lower trims as well.
Excellent review. Would you recommend the diesel auto version over the petrol 1.4 DCT, considering that it's a people carrier and not an enthusiasts car? Any thoughts about the diesel version in general?
I drove to Tirupati recently on my 7 DCT Prestige plus, in eco mode the vehicle didn’t had power to climb up but in sports mode it was smooth. Halogen headlight bulb is not sufficient for driving at 120km speed. For some reason whenever I crossed 120km speed it gives warning sound and it just doesn’t stop beeping
Our first review was of the diesel AT. And that’s pretty impressive too. It’s louder than the petrol, but otherwise, all pros and cons stay the same as this. And I think the two are priced at par too.
Even after nearly 8,000km - Nothing has fallen, nothing is rattling, nothing has stopped working. No real glitches either. So I Would say, pretty good.
I think if the nature of the car driveability is bit laid back or let's call it relaxed and linear, then I would definitely want to go for the manual version. This is because manual transmission provides more control over the car. The manual would be more engaging and enjoyable in my opinion. + The real driving skills are tested in manual isn't it?😜
If it’s a six or seven seater you want, the Carens is the better car. Period. It is also the one to pick if fuel efficiency is crucial for you. As a five seater though, we would take the XUV. Better road presence, it feels more expensive on the inside, it is nicer to drive, and it is also equally comfortable, if not more.
We have driven the diesel AT extensively as well. And the bottomline is - if you are going to be spending majority of the time in the city, the petrol AT is the one to go for. But in the highway, the diesel AT is a much better option. It’s more efficient, easier to drive, and more torquey to make easy work of overtakes and keeping three digit cruising speeds.
@@adarshfamily - Made a family trip to Goa from Bangalore. Very comfortable. I’m happy with the mileage as well - 18kms per litre although the digital meter stated 23kms per litre. Also, got to know about diesel filter regeneration that needs to be done. A manual procedure. Happy with the purchase
I am getting only 6-7 km/litr in my Carens 1.4 AT in Mumbai city traffic. Though on highway downhill from Pune I got 20 km/l. Third row is very bouncy.
That’s quite low. What’s your average travel speed during your commute? Also, if your commutes are short in terms of distances, but long in terms of time, your FE figures will be drastically low. In my case, my commute distance is around 40km one way. And my average speeds can drop to as low as 22kmph.
Hi , considering 6 people go for out if city trips and small boot space, putting a luggage carrier for out of station trips is allowed legally ? You will be better informed on this..appreciate your views..Thanks in advance
I don’t see it as an issue. It’s a smart ‘box. The engine has good grunt once the turbo is spinning. And even in Normal mode, you won’t find the throttle response or drive lacking in any way.
Booked luxury plus petrol automatic 7DCT. Heard hill climbing issue, a/c water stagnant on the roof, DCT will have issues after sometime? Is it worth to spend 22 lakhs for this car. I've also booked AX7 Petrol manual variant from Mahindra. But confused whether to go for carens or mahindra.
Hi Is it worth to wait for Toyota Hycross or buy a Carens Luxury model ? We are a family of 6 with travel needs of hardly 5000 kms per year ? Appreciate your reply
The Carens is quite spacious for 6 people, though you will need to get a roof luggage box if you want everyone to travel in comfort on longer journeys. It is more affordable, has great features and waiting periods are lower. The Turbo petrol with DCT gearbox is the best combination to go for. If price is a concern, the Turbo petrol + iMT is the next best combo.
Sir I wish to buy 1.4P DCT only. Could you please quote a short note on turbo and dct's reliability as well as maintenance respectively? Do we have to fear about dct's over heating issues or not sir??
So far we have driven it through Mumbai’s peak hour traffic regularly, and we haven’t had even a single overheating message thrown at us. So, I wouldn’t worry too much about the reliability of the powertrain. It should be fine.
Kushaq is a five seater; actually more like a comfortable four seater. the carens is a six seater. different needs. therefore, no one is comparing the two.
I have a diesel manual luxury plus variant. If you are ready to compromise sporty driving and looking for a comfortable family drive then Carens is the best. I got stunning 20 km/l mileage on highways when the speed is maintained between 80 and 100. In the Chennai city traffic I get 16 km/l. I feel that I should have gone for automatic based on my past 1 month experience.
No youtubers reveals the actual drawback of Kia Carens DCT version. The DCT is not good for indian conditions where you have to keep applying brakes and keep changing the speed. DCT wear out faster and you will get too many issues within a few years. And of course you must be aware of the costs involved. Now why none of the youtubers talk about this real issue is a million dollars question?
Two reasons really - one, we haven’t received this feedback from viewers and readers that the DCT wears out soon l. Two, we have lived with and driven and tested many dual clutch automatic cars from various OEMs and this has never been a problem. And if you think about it - there must be a reason that most oems are moving to dual clutch autos, and not just in India, but globally. Finally, unless we experience it, or have enough data to support a claim, we wouldn’t want to spread unsubstantiated info.
@@vikrantsingh6916 thanks for the response. May be you can take suo moto and research about overheating issues with DCT and guide your viewers on the better ways to drive vehicles with DCT. That will be a value add for the viewers.
We reviewed the diesel AT a couple of months back. You can find that video on this channel itself. But pros and cons remain more or less the same as the petrol.

Great Review
Excellent review. Would you recommend the diesel auto version over the petrol 1.4 DCT, considering that it's a people carrier and not an enthusiasts car? Any thoughts about the diesel version in general?
Diesel auto is the pick of the lot when it comes to carens.
If u want to drive in enthusiastic way, then go for 1.4 dct / turbo manual even with 6 - 7 ppl, gives gud power to go long distance..
The beeps are mandatory by the government norms. You will hear single beep at 80km/h and continuous beep after touching 120km/h.
Are u allowed to drive thjs car at 120 km
@@brandonsmith546 yeh but it’s annoying with the alert sound
Superb review
Glad you liked the video, Arnab!
Is carens diesel manual have drive modes?
Vikrant, waiting for diesel 1.5 pros n cons. Automatic or MT
Our first review was of the diesel AT. And that’s pretty impressive too. It’s louder than the petrol, but otherwise, all pros and cons stay the same as this. And I think the two are priced at par too.
@@vikrantsingh6916 thank you so much sir! Feels so good when a celebrity like you responds to comment from a common man.
Nice review.
Thanks Amit.
How is the built quality sir?
Even after nearly 8,000km - Nothing has fallen, nothing is rattling, nothing has stopped working. No real glitches either. So I Would say, pretty good.

Whats about Kia Carens auto experience on mountains? Guide me,
I have booked Carens diesel 1.5 manual, now I am confused 1.5 diesel or 1.4 petrol. Please suggest me. My usage is 1000km per month.
For 1000km a month, I would say the petrol. It’s the quieter, more refined of the two.
Me also booked same♥️
Diesel is good for mileage,so it will be good for 1000km
I think if the nature of the car driveability is bit laid back or let's call it relaxed and linear, then I would definitely want to go for the manual version. This is because manual transmission provides more control over the car. The manual would be more engaging and enjoyable in my opinion.
+ The real driving skills are tested in manual isn't it?😜
M confused between carens luxury plus and xuv700 ax5 which one to choose pls help
Can you do the review of Diesel Auto vs Petrol Auto as price of both the varient is same.
@@vikrantsingh6916 thanks for your reply
Hi, Vikrant, booked 6 seater Diesel Automatic as it was just 30,000 higher in price. What is your view? Is the Diesel engine good?
Diesel AT is excellent! And suits the Carens character of being a relaxed cruiser the best. So great choice. Congratulations! :-)
How s your experience Nitin?
Is it 1.4 Dct
@@vikrantsingh6916 very low it is bumper to bumper traffic about 10km/hr in normal mode
@@kennvinkariparampu8585 yes
@@atulvora531 ok bro thanks👍🏼
I'm planning to buy Diesel AMT, can you do review on this model too?
There’s no AMT. But the diese AT is a nice one too. It is especially good for long distance driving - fuel efficient, quick, and easy.
Is this tested with Asian Ncap or Global Ncap?
Hi , considering 6 people go for out if city trips and small boot space, putting a luggage carrier for out of station trips is allowed legally ? You will be better informed on this..appreciate your views..Thanks in advance
Nice review , could you provide details regarding DCT performance in hilly regions with 6 people...?
I don’t see it as an issue. It’s a smart ‘box. The engine has good grunt once the turbo is spinning. And even in Normal mode, you won’t find the throttle response or drive lacking in any way.
Booked luxury plus petrol automatic 7DCT. Heard hill climbing issue, a/c water stagnant on the roof, DCT will have issues after sometime? Is it worth to spend 22 lakhs for this car. I've also booked AX7 Petrol manual variant from Mahindra. But confused whether to go for carens or mahindra.
Did u take any decision?
@@adarshfamily I've prefer to go with mahindra
@@prateeshv3468 xuv 7oo is more like a 5 seater bro.. i took test drive and felt third row space very less…
Hi! Which one did you buy? And why?
In some southeast asia country, coin holder is still being used a lot of time.. for street parking, give a bit to homeless, etc..
@@CarWale thank you for the quick revert
Does diesel manual make sense??
Yes. But i would spend more and buy the automatic because it makes even more sense.
Planing for this car
Should I go with automatic petrol or diesel?
for power highway drive and good milage!
Which would be a good option please suggest
dieselauto if you want more FE and if you intend driving it more on highways.
@@vikrantsingh6916 Thank you very much for your kind reply sir 🙏
Sir I hv heard 1.4 TURBO PETROL DCT is giving below 10 in city and 12 on highway
Hi sir.. Hope you doing good, you haven't reviewed diesel version but what's your opinion on D- Engine performance..
I reviewed the diesel version a couple of months back. You can find that on this channel itself.
can u explain the comparison to kia carens vs skoda kushaq, which is better? I don't see one review on that
Kushaq is a five seater; actually more like a comfortable four seater. the carens is a six seater. different needs. therefore, no one is comparing the two.
I own Carens and I agree with you 200% Perfect review!
Good to know! :-)
Sir what varient do you have ?
If petrol
That plz tell me mileage
Which variant do you have? And reviews, please.
I have booked a 1.5 petrol prestige model.
Make this video for diesel versions.
you r excellent sir
Make video on 1.5 NA petrol drive impression
I don’t think they have one in the press fleet. But, we will try and locate one to review.
Please do the new review on Kia Carens luxury plus IMT
Would like to get your feedback on the Carens headlamps and the visibility it offers, particularly on highways in the night
It's pretty good. I have done some road trips that involved driving in the dark and it was great for speeds of up to 80-90kmph.
what about the DPF issues that is a big headache I have had with my Kia Seltos Diesel IMT crdi

It is the version that offers the most value I believe. So yes, worth buying.
