Welcome back and great reaction.🦊You would be absolutely fine in a BABYMETAL crowd, you will see every sort of person from parents with 6-8 year old kids on their shoulders through to old rockers in their 70s (or older) and everything in between - all nationalities, backgrounds, musical tastes and everybody having the best time.
'Karate' was the lead single for their second album (2016). It is about fighting adversity, when life knocks you down and everything seems too hard so you're hurt and crying, its about standing up and fighting on, helping each other through the hard times.
They used karate to illustrate this because as a Japanese martial art it reflects their culture - that was a very important thing for them as well. As with a lot of their songs it is also about always moving forwards.
The figures in white were the girls all along and they were conjuring up their own inner demons to fight against. They beat the first, the second knocked them down but they got up to eventually defeat themselves (did you notice the reflections of each of the girls in their own eyes when the masks shattered and it was revealed as them? Not many people spot that).
They did watch a lot of martial arts movies to get ideas for the choreo as they wanted it to look as authentic as possible (but they are not martial artists). Moa catching the fly was a nod to Mr Miyagi in The Karate Kid. Mr Miyagi may have used chop sticks (and it may have taken him two or three films before he caught one), Moa caught her fly with her eyes closed - first time .... and she let it go. We all know Moa wouldn't hurt a fly.
This song and video won 2 awards. "Best Metal Video in MTV Video Music Awards Japan 2016" and "Best Metal Song in 6th Annual Loudwire Music Awards".
Next BABYMETAL song for you .... what haven't you seen yet? Check the For The Fox God channel for some great live performances.

    Welcome back Andrea, it's been a while.🦊🤘🔥
I heard about you moving to Japan and that's really awesome, hope you can enjoy that beautiful culture and hopefully a BM live show.
This song is one of their powerful weapons from Metal Resistance 2016 and is still one of the favorites in the setlist, they did it several times at the recent Europe Tour and that interlude is just magical when doing the crowd interaction.
This month they will start with the Asian Tour including some special appearance at Summer Sonic Japan this weekend to perform along with Bodyslam the super collab "Leave It All Behind" (highly suggest a reaction), later they will be together with F.Hero performing at Summer Sonic Bangkok altogether this song.
In October they will be Knotfest Brazil, Argentina and Chile and can't wait for it.
Next suggestion to enjoy latest collab along with Electric Callboy:
    - RATATATA live at NEX_FEST 2024, the official MV is also a must but unfortunately is getting blocked for some reactors so take precautions.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and analysis on this. See you next time.🦊🤘❤

You really should watch Karate live, she does some extra vocals, and most outstanding, she sings a part literally jumping on place with such a little impact on her voice steadiness, it's 🤯! (On a few occasions, she had issues with that, but it's pretty rare, most notably at Glastonbury 2019).
And the dounle "Hashire" is so powerful!

Thanks from the country you are residing 有難う💛。 Karate has been played in recent European festivals. Su stills hit the high note at the end flawlessly with her matured voice. 😍
When I witnessed Karate revived at the venues in 2021 / 2023 and listened to the penetrating beautiful voice, I felt purified and absolved (I did not have any sin though 😄 )
In this MV Su breaks tiles at 08:46 in your video. If you watch the scene very carefully in slow-motion mode, you will find she does it not in karate style but with fox sign 🤣 . (I did not discover it, other observant fan did.)

A Babymetal show is the friendliest metal show you can go to. There are fans there of all ages ranging from little kids with their parents right through to senior citizens. Most show have seated sections as well as the mosh pit, so if you don't want to brave the pit if you don't have to.

Speaking as someone who has 27 shows under my belt, including Tokyo Dome, I can assure you, no matter who you are, you will be embraced by the Babymetal community and will DEFINITELY be in your element. Even the "mosh'sh pits are just friendly circle pits of happy smiling faces running in huge circles😂. Literally every age demographic attends these shows. From 60 and 70 year old couples to 5 year old kids with their parents, and everyone in between. Pop fans, metal fans, anime otaku, musicians, everyday people. Everyone loves BABYMETAL. Or at least I'd like to think so😜. Getting tickets to see them would be easier in the States than in Japan, since Japan uses a lottery system. Although the shows in Japan are huge! 20,000 on average attendance, usually two days in a row. Tokyo Dome was 50,000 two days in a row. HUGE shows. One advantage to seeing them in the US or Europe tours is the intimate venues of 2000 capacity. No lottery. Show up and line up early, you get a chance at barrier. Literally 4 feet away from you! In the Japan shows, they are huge spectacles! But the lottery system will limit how close you get to the stage. You may end up watching them on the big screens because you can't see over the tall white dude in front of you, or your seat is in the nosebleed section😂. No but seriously, it is a process getting tickets in Japan. Not impossible, but definitely not easier than in the US.

Babymetal got me back into metal years ago when I first started listening to them. Sounds like you already know pretty much every song is awesome and they always put on extreme live performances. I speak japanese which makes it more fun for me. I also would suggest band maid, hard rock from japan and the women are unreal musicians and the singing is awesome with hard rock, nemophila who themselves are babymetal fans. Also, since you are a singer, you might appreciate the kpop group mamamoo, they are known in korea as basically the best live vocalists in the country. Start with Killing voice perfect harmony, a medley of their own music and their immortal song contest. Both are live. They sing every genre as well, so you will hear a lot of jazz, big band, regaetton, blues and more from them.

Check out Mari Hamada, the queen of Japan metal, her Stay Gold live will amaze you. she has been rocking sin the mid 80's and still going strong. Her vocal range has gotten higher and stronger as she ages.

    Karate (Babymetal song):-
"Karate" is a song by the Japanese 🇯🇵 heavy metal band Babymetal from their second studio album, Metal Resistance. "Karate" also features djent-like riffs and a J-pop melody. Loudwire's Graham Hartmann described the song as "incredibly charming. Instrumentally, it’s also heavy as hell. The song’s main riff is way low on the sonic spectrum, chugging away in a no-nonsense djent fashion." “Karate” took home the trophy for Best Metal Song @ the 2016 Annual Loudwire Music Awards. Karate explained that the lyrics are about never giving up and always moving forward, no matter what difficulties need to be endured. Furthermore, Karate choreographed described how the dance moves were made to help express the message of the song, as most of the lyrics were in Japanese 🇯🇵.
    "Karate"
    •Single by: Babymetal.
    •Album: Metal Resistance.
    •Language: Japanese.
    •Released: February 26, 2016.
    •Genre: J-pop, nu metal, metalcore.
    •Length: 4:23.
    •Label: RAL, Sony Music.
    •Songwriter: Yuyoyuppe.
    •Producer: Kobametal.
    •Arrangement: Yuyoyuppe.
    Babymetal singles chronology:-
    •"Gimme Chocolate!!" (2015).
    •"Karate"(2016).
    •"Distortion" (2018).
    Background and release:-
According to Suzuka Nakamoto, "Karate" is reminiscent of the song "4", which "is popular among international fans. [The song] has not only Babymetal vibes, but also has Japanese elements. Its lyrics portray a strong will to go on, no matter what happens in your life." The song is a nu metal song that contains elements of metalcore. Composed by Yuyoyuppe and arranged under the name Yuppemetal, "Karate" also features djent-like riffs, and a J-pop melody. Loudwire's Graham Hartmann described the song as "incredibly charming. Instrumentally, it’s also heavy as hell. The song’s main riff is way low on the sonic spectrum, chugging away in a no-nonsense djent fashion."
Kikuchi explained that the lyrics are about never giving up and always moving forward, no matter what difficulties need to be endured. Furthermore, Yui Mizuno described how the dance moves were made to help express the message of the song, as most of the lyrics were in Japanese.
    Reception:-
"Karate" received generally positive reviews from music critics. Lars Gotrich of NPR Music described the song as "catchy and grandiose" praising Nakamoto's vocal performance, comparing her to Evanescence lead vocalist Amy Lee. Jon Hadusek from Consequence of Sound called the song, as well as "From Dusk Till Dawn" essential tracks from the album. While reviewing Metal Resistance, Jordan Bassett of NME praised the song, describing it as "fast and furious until jangling, arpeggiated guitar alters the rhythm." Hartmann praised the song's chorus, calling it "one of the catchiest pieces [Babymetal] has crafted to date."
"Karate" peaked at number two on the Billboard World Digital Songs chart on the issue dated March 19, 2016, spending fourteen weeks on the chart. The song debuted at number 24 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100, for the week of March 12, 2016. After the release of the band's second album Metal Resistance, in the week of May 7, 2016, the song peaked at number 17, spending a total of twelve weeks on the chart.
    Live performances:-
"Karate" premiered at Yokohama Arena on December 12, 2015, during the final dates of the Babymetal World Tour 2015, and was added to the setlist of the Babymetal World Tour 2016, performed on the first tour date at Wembley Arena. The song had its first televised performance at TV Asahi's Music Station on April 22, 2016. The song's choreography contained interpolations of karate moves, as shown in the music video.
BABYMETAL WIN FIVE HONORS IN THE 6TH ANNUAL LOUDWIRE MUSIC AWARDS:-
Japanese pop-metal sensation Babymetal are one of the 6th Annual Loudwire Music Awards’ biggest winners, as their fans voted them to victory in five separate categories.
The teen trio and their phenomenal backing musicians have rocketed to the top of the metal world, and in many ways, the worlMd of music. Babymetal’s rabid fanbase filled the Tokyo Dome two nights in a row, so it’s no surprise the band won the Most Devoted Fans award for the second year in a row, this time edging out fellow Japanese act X Japan.
Babymetal’s Metal Resistance album proved the group wouldn’t go out as a one hit wonder. It kicks in hard with “Road of Resistance” and keeps moving with anthemic cuts that are criminally catchy. Metal Resistance won Best Metal Album in our latest awards, while “Karate” took home the trophy for Best Metal Song.
2016 was Babymetal’s year for touring, playing Wembley early in the year, appearing on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, taking over North America, playing the Tokyo Dome and finally supporting Red Hot Chili Peppers in the UK. For Babymetal’s accomplishments, they’ve been voted Best Live Act. Finally, frontwoman Su-metal claimed victory in our Rock Goddess of the Year category, beating out beloved singers like Amy Lee and Cristina Scabbia.

I agree I do love a female vocalist in metal, however so few can project their vocals enough to not get over powered by the instruments, Su is just a force been a huge fan of Babymetal since 2014 myself

"Ooo! Ooo!" (Raises hand like an eager elementary school kid) "I know more Japanese music i think you'd like!"
I started listening to Babymetal back in early 2014 when i discovered them, and my life has never been the same. That opened the door to a hidden wonderland of music i never knew existed. Let's start with the band i discovered soon after Babymetal. Band-Maid! The BEST hard rock (not necessarily metal) band that will become your next obsession. GUARANTEED! Songs to check out: Hate? Official Live. Domination Official Live.
New collaboration song with The Warning, Show Them.
Next band to check out: Nemophila. Check out their songs, Oiran, Rise, or Dissension.
Next is something we call Harajukucore with the band 花冷え(Hanabie). Check out their songs, Pardon Me I Have To Go Now, Be The Gal, Girl's Talk, or OTAKU Lovely Densetsu.
    Next band : Lovebites
Check out Hammer Of Wrath, Judgement day, Unchained.
And then once you get through some of these, we'll start in on the Tokyo Underground Alt Idol Scene, which is a whole other world i discovered when i visited Japan. Causing me to return 4 times!😂😂😂
Anyway. I'm subbing just in case you do go into these bands. But first, you gotta try Band-Maid. Trust me 😉

First you have a great singing voice. Some other bands to check since you'll be in Japan. It would start with Band-Maid, "Hate?" OLV, "Domination" OLV or Alone OMV. After Band-Maid, some other bands to check out: Lovebites, Hagane, Nemophila, Koiai, Gacharic Spin, and Hanabie. So jealous of you moving to Japan, there are tons of great groups. And you can find something all the time in their small music house venues. Enjoy your Japan experience, especially the food. It's awesome! 🤘😆🤘

    ありがとう!🦊
Different people interpret it differently, but I think the fact that the mask cracked at the end and the girls came out from inside shows that this song is about fighting against the weak self that is inside of you.
Also, although BM was criticized in the early days, saying "this is not METAL," the girls have fought for it, believing in the power of music to break down barriers such as borders, language, and age. I believe this song represents this fight as well.
Please take a look at Karate's video of the 2016 DOWNLOAD FES! I think you will like it.😄
In Japan, throat singing has been used for hundreds of years. Even today, because of its influence, it is often slightly different from that of foreign singers. SU may be special among them. There are few singers who sing non-vibrato and without falsetto.
Furthermore, her voice is an integer overtone, so it penetrates through the heaviest notes.
In general, JPOP often incorporates complex chord progressions and modulations, which I think is especially interesting for those involved in music.
In the U.S., perhaps Japanese songs are often heard as theme songs for anime, so JPOP and JROCK may sound like anime songs because of the way they are voiced and the chord progression of the melody.
Since you are coming to Japan, I hope you will enjoy yourself immensely while analyzing the Galapagosized music of Japan!
