Your so right in the reason why people quit so quickly. Doing boring scale excersizes and learning chords from a teacher without ever playing music they like. Their fingers hurt while they havent been able to enjoy learning songs they like at the same time. That is crucial in sticking with anything. You have to enjoy it if your enduring some initial pain at first, in order to stick with it.
I just stumbled on your channel and, as another geezer guitar player, I enjoy your content. I am "self taught" as well and have progressed to the point that I can play most any tune. I find I am picking up the other stuff little bits at a time.
Welcome to the channel and quick question do you live in Mentor? My wife is from Little Italy and I grew up in Cleveland Heights. We still have tons of family there, You should start video recording your play. We would love to feature it here. BTW we have a lot of performers who subscribe so I hope you stay tuned!
@@willib5499 Glad to see another older person, like myself, enjoying music and all the happiness it brings. I stumbled upon this channel quite by accident and after watching his videos for a while. I was inspired to start playing again. It has brought me so much joy since restarting to play the guitar. I am so thankful to Dennis for sharing his music and his journey. He's overcome some barriers in order to play but he keeps at it regardless. That is inspiring and the reason I started playing again. Stick around. You'll find Dennis to be a very down to earth and super nice person. If you need any tips or help, I'm sure he will do the best he can. He has followers who could be helpful as well. Enjoy and happy holidays.
@@denniscurnayn I live in Vermilion, but my daughter and her family live in Mentor, so I am there fairly often. I have another channel, Unclebilloutdoors, but I haven't posted a new video for a few years. Maybe I need to do a couple videos. I had one of those copyright strikes on that channel. I couldn't figure out why because I downloaded all the background music from one of those free music sites.
I played Skynyrd's Free Bird last night and messed up all three takes. It's 9 minutes long so three takes was all my arthritic fingers could muster. I might choose one and upload it anyway.
@denniscurnayn I'll let you know when or if I get it down good enough to post. It will have your video and my background licks, if I can figure out how to do it. Right now, I don't know if I have a program to import your video and add licks to it. Also, Let me know if it's okay to post your video (with my background licks) on my channel. I'll certainly link to your channel as the creator. If not then, if you'd like you can post it on your channel. I'm fine either way. I haven't figured out how to link to other channels on UA-cam like you do. I've never looked at how.
