  • I was asked, by a friend who is terrified by the CDJ1000 to do an explanation video about it, so this is quite detailed, and lengthy. There's still one or two functions i'm not too good with because i never use them, so it would be good if someone could upload a video response about these things (i mention what they are in the video).
    also there are several functions connected to the DJM800, so i explained this too :)

    Massively late to the party and recently bought 2 of these and having only used vinyl in the late 90s this video was extremely helpful, thank you for going in to so much depth 👍

    About the Hot Cues. It's 3 per CD. It's with the CDJ-2000's and newer that you can store 3 or more per track. That's why pro DJ's using the Hot Cues usually burned 1 track/CD. It's easy to see why it was very attractive to switch to the 2000's when the came out. You could put your tracks on 1 usb and leave your 2-3 200pcs/Cd-wallets at home.
    As the price for a couple of used CDJ-1000Mk3's in very good condition went down to ~$400, it's still, 2016, a solid choice if you're on a budget. They are very well built and lasts forever. You can still do most of the important stuff on them with CD's and you can also use them with DVS and get even more out of them. I have 2 that had the cue/play switches replaced and now works perfect. Good for practice and as a backup solution. If you can use these, you can use any newer model. The learning curve is like 5 minutes. I actually prefer these with CD's, over the newer 350/850/900's.
    I have the 2000Nexus's and 2000nxs2's as my primary players but I still use my 1000Mk3's for practice runs now and then. This is a recording I made earlier this year: ua-cam.com/video/k-W9faORKk4/v-deo.html

    Thank you for the video. I am a low budget beginner and I have been learning the basics of these players. You just revealed a whole new world to me. Love these players and CDs, and prefer mixing tangible music over data. Excellent work man!

    So to my knowledge the memory button is for syncing 2 cdjs together. I need help with that too.
    The digital spot can be used for a digital reference monitor or tv so you can see what you are playing on a big screen without hurting your eyes. The other cable ive heard mixed things about. I thought it was for syncing put Pioneer told me its a service patch bay that i need not worry about.
    ❤ yo video. I hope you are still DJing! ❤️ from RDO

    Been mixing vinyl since 95, just got a cdj1000mk3... here comes 2002 I guess. Feels less sexy mixing digital, but thanks for the tips. I kinda got fed up with not being able to buy vinyl anymore. I'm thru about 2012 and my record library fund is gettin maxed out. Cheers mate!

    It’s good to to know that CD pioneer still exist and thanks for this great tutorial, similar to DJ Controller and I love this..Great Tips and can not wait to buy one

    • @b100pech
      @b100pech 2 роки тому

      Good advice: buy a pair of semi-old ones, like 350s 400s or 850s...
      All the pioneer CD players without a digital displays are fairly affordable, and so much fun to learn on, because you have no waveforms, just the sound over your headphones... If you can play on some CDJs without display you can get behind any (preferably Pioneer, but also otherwise) CD/USB turntables and do your thing, you learned it on the simplest club-standard mixer, it does not get harder on CDJs newer, just more functions you can ignore if you want...
      Also the 350/400/850 have USB ports for music, but also CD players...
      And in Europe a set of CDJ400/350s with a DJM350 second hand (with flightcase, maybe some accessories) is just slightly more expensive then a new bare DDJ-400 controller.
      While you can also still use the mentioned CDJs as a controller, connecting with the USB-B port on the back to a PC/Mac...

    Unsure whether to get CDJ 1000mk3's or 900's the main deciding point being that 900's can use USB and 1000's can't.
    Is it worth paying the extra for the 900's? Or is mixing using cd's not that bad

    • @Phil1480
      @Phil1480 9 років тому

      lakudzala195 i bought the 900's and i'm happy with them, especially because of the USB- Port and the LINK Feature. The build quality isnt as great as on the 1000s though and you cant use hot cues but that wasnt an issue for me.

      I haven't actually used the 900's but the 1000mk3's are awesome... it has an sd port for mp3 as well as with the rca ports i can just run them to my mixing board that does have a usb set up but comparing them to my DDJ's 1000 times better.

      Wow, what are people talking about these days is crazy. I still own 1000s but used them 10 years ago. What's wrong with using CDs? I can tell what's wrong with using MP3s - quality sucks.

    • @SteveAlcock93
      @SteveAlcock93 10 років тому +2

      you can if you have extremely accurate timeing! cdj 2000's have something called quantize built in which automatically time your loops for you, for all others you will need dj software like traktor or rekordbox etc.

    As a beginner DJ,would you buy Serato SL2 or 1 MK3?

  • @BigMilan
    @BigMilan  12 років тому

    yea they can take a while to load the waveforms. i'm pretty sure that, if you have a memory card inserted, and you let all the songs load one by one on a cd, it will save them to the card for next time when you put that same cd in. I THINK.
    as for other ways to play music without cds... you can use a timecoded cd and some software like tractor and a soundcard to play songs from your computer. i don't know TOO much about this as i don't do it myself, but it's easy with the right hardware

      They are going cheap on EBay, no more than £450 for a pair. You may never use them to the grave, if your not a intense DJ. I use mine every other day if I am lucky. My 1210 Technical VinyL player has been around since 1992. So I am pretty sure even a secondhand pair, you can be going for the next 15 years.

    The digital cable:
    If you are using a digital mixer (most if not all DJM mixers are, also the ones without a Digital IN port) and you use RCA you have 2 more DAC (Digital to Analog converter)
    CD/USB (digital) > CDJ (digital) > DAC (inside CDJ) > RCA cable (analogue) > DAC (inside mixer) > sound processing (digital)(whatever you do on your mixer)(inside mixer) > DAC (inside mixer) > Analogue out (analogue) > PA (analogue)
    Just count, 3 digital/analogue conversions
    If I take away as many conversions from analoge to digital or the other way around sound quality should be better, especially for very huge sound systems (like a festival or big club)... At home you would need to be a trained listener to hear the difference (if you can hear the sound difference between mixers you should be able to hear this)...
    So if you have digital IN/OUT on your mixer/players you can do this:
    CD/USB (digital) > CDJ (digital) > Coax cable (digital) > Mixer (digital) > sound processing (digital) > DAC > Analogue out (analogue)
    Just 1 conversion...
    You could probably send the digital signal from your mixer to a festival sound system, so the sound system (with a better DAC) can convert to analogue as late as possible, for even better quality...
