Hey John really nice job. Like you I HATE painting the windows and cornices on DMP kits but with a little time it's worth it. Thanks for sharing with us and keep up the great work.
Great job on the build freight depot build John! I think that works perfect for your layout and you have a great spot to turn trucks around and back them in. I am going to have to get me some of those SAL razorback trailers! - Jason
The buildings look great, John. After you do the concrete you may want to do some weeds and small grass tuffs against the buildings. You know how nature can take over and finds the seams between the buildings and concrete. Thanks for the update, David.
Thank you Vinny - so dull coat made some of your joint compound disappear too? In my case, it worked out as I had wanted to tone it down anyway, but if I had gotten it right from the get go, that would have been annoying. Maybe the solution is to use more grayish tint, and let it serve as both mortar and a fade...?
Awesome, thanks Fred! I've missed seeing updates from you as you have been doing other things...now that winter is coming I am hoping to see more from you!
I've loved watching the progress on this structure. I worked on a similar kit-bashed background structure on my own layout. I'm taking notes on the paints you're using. They seem to cover really well. Some of the budget acrylics I have from hobby lobby aren't cutting it. Keep up the great work!
Thank you, Collin. I’d say the cheap acrylics are fine for certain things - I used them a lot in this build. But for fine detail, places where you really only want to make one pass, a quality paint like tamiya just has better coverage.
I use a mini blade screw driver to peel the paint from the window frames, it’s faster than sanding. I’ve decided to look upon painting DPM windows as a cathartic zen like experience as opposed to mind numbing. 😊 Nice work on the buildings
That's a good way to think of painting molded on detail. I would say I started with that mindset, but it didn't last. Like I say, take a breather from one of those, but I'll be back and rearing to go on another eventually. Good tip, too re: the screwdriver!
I mask on the back of any building that will have windows put in. That and the glue edges of the windows. Easier in the long run. Think ahead!!! Some people comment on my clean buildings ( just slightly aged ) and I have to say that I just had them steam cleaned. Once every 10 years so they will live on for many years. The downspouts were a nice save... All in all, a very nice building...
Thank you David - that is a good tip on masking. I masked the edges of where the two larger pieces joined, but for some reason the windows or window openings didn't occur to me. That would have been easier!
Thank you Ronald. Depending on where you mean, there was a combination: cheap craft store acrylics, a little airbrushing/ spray bombs, and some high quality tamiya paint on the details.
The foam truck dock turned out great. The buildings look really good too. 👍
Thank you William! Cheers!
Definitely... a well deserved... Great job !! Building looks ... Awesome 👌 😎
Thank you Darrell! Cheers!
Looking good John! I love those building kits. You have a revenue generator there 😃
Thank you Bill! Should be some good switching there, too!
Looking forward to more, I need to get to this point at some point.
Thanks Eric, and I need to lay some more track so that I can resume operations!
Buildings look great. Love how you are planning on hiding the seams in the buildings. It looks great!
John, Thank you! 😊
I like the addition of the loading dock.
Thanks John! A little splash of interest, and hiding the bottom of the backdrop right there… two for one!
Excellent share 👌 👍 big like and full support 👌 👍 🙌
Thank you, I appreciate that!
Looks. Very good John awesome job👍🏻👍🏻 TSM
Thank you Mike! Cheers!

Thank you John! The DPM kits do come out looking nice if you take your time but that was a lot of hand painting! I’ll build another- eventually.
That looks great John! Nice job with the washes. Love the truck dock.
Thanks Dave 👍 - I was happy with how it turned out as a whole.
Looking good John. I like how the loading dock and stairs turned out. Nice concrete coloring.
Thank you! 👍

Thanks Jason! Fantastic idea and I ran with it. The trailer is pretty awesome, especially for this application.
John, the buildings look great, what a wonderful scene it will make to operate trains in front of. scott
Thank you Scott! I appreciate it. Hope your new build is going well!
Looks great, love the loading dock idea. I have a brick flat for a creamery that could use that idea.
Thank you Paul! It was very easy since the foam is already the right thickness!

That's a fantastic idea! I have just the tufts for it too - tiny ones from a wargaming company. Thank you!
@@johnarthur6302 No problem, it is just something I have noticed at work and that building has been there for 75 years.
The end result is very good.
Thank you!
hi John.. coming along nicely...i had the same problem with the dull coat...thx 4 sharing.. vinny

Looking good. Been watching your building video for some inspiration because I'm getting ready to do some of my own.

Good stuff in this video John…gonna be bashing a background building this winter…can use some of your techniques…your building looks fantastic
Right on, Anthony! I look forward to seeing that. I just love the scale of your buildings - they are all big enough to justify rail service.
@@johnarthur6302 thanks John…wish I had your scenery expertise 😊
