Flying A Drone For The US Marshals

- A story over 2 years in the making! I wasn't sure if I should share this footage but my sister sent me a link to Fox2 news who had the footage and did a story on it. I'm glad to see it in the wild. It was an honor to be able to help in this way. FPV can preserve life and we should look for more opportunities to do so.
A friend with our local police department reached out and asked for me to help with a situation where the US Marshals were attempting to arrest someone on a warrant. In the process he fire several rounds. Luckily no one was hurt and he was eventually arrested. The drone flight likely saved his life and kept law enforcement out of harms way.

Cool story!
A guy I work with, who is a volunteer FF) who knew I flew drones called me once to help his department look for a elderly gentleman that had walked away from his house. The deputies and EMS found him before I could. But like you said there are opportunities for people who fly these very cool aircraft.
Great story it was awesome. To bad the good stories do not make the news much. I usually only here bad stories about drones on the news, and they are almost always inaccurate. Blame the drone and pilot without any real facts, and never follow-up to let you know it was something else other than a drone. Love the story.
WOW this was crazy!! I would have been shaking like a leaf flying that quad! But that's what racing on the main stage teaches you to calm your nerves! Great job bud! Thanks Shawn!
"I'm not the greatest hide and go seek player, but this guy was pretty bad"
Had me rollinnnnnnn!!! 😂😂😂
Great video and great story
"If I just hide my face they won't see me and my blue bloomers"
Amazing work here. You saved lives for sure. I hope this takes off for you.
this is so cool! nice work and great flying! i cant imagine the pressure you felt while doing it haha!
Wow, awesome job man!!
This was so cool to watch! Thanks for sharing this!
Super cool story! Had my heart racing !!
I'm surprized by the good perception you had given that you're sitting in that armed vehicle.
Rapidstrike and with a 3 inch you can go much higher in video mw. I imagine hd now makes this job even more valuable.
@@cracklova3299 I guess you mean Rapidfire. Yeah, got it myself.
I really can't say enough about this. I have a similar story, having demo'd some drone capabilities for a friend on a local police force a few years back. I showed him some high altitude footage then did a whoop tour of my house, entering through a small window opening. He was fully convinced of the merits of these capabilities and the force immediately assembled a drone division with my friend as Captain. In the time since they have served countless warrants via drone. Quite often the guy is in the attic, often times armed, but pretty much every time surrender themselves as soon as they see the drone. Like its just something they just weren't prepared for. It is not lost on anyone that this has avoided countless shooting situations and greatly diffused the risk to both officers and suspects. They are fully committed and expanding their fleet of drones and pilots on an ongoing basis. Just this July 4th I was invited for a visit while they had multiple surveillance drones monitoring a street fair, a traffic situation and keeping safety watch over the launch area for their local fireworks display. So you really can't understate what an asset drones are to law enforcement for safety, efficiency and rapid response. You did great work here and great job raising awareness too.
reminds me of flying the drone in splinter cell blacklist
I really appreciate this vid. Kinda stopped flying cuz freestyle felt kinda pointless.
If I could HELP ppl with drones I'd def get more flight time in.
Thanks for sharing! I would love the chance to do something like this. Interesting mission.
Hell yea dude Representing Missouri! This is an amazing example. Maybe in another video you can talk about digital hd can apply to this.
Excellent video thank you for sharing. Both my brothers are in Law enforcement and one actually is involved with his departments drone division. It is a very wonderful tool that 100% saves lives and I'm thankful it is being utilized for that purpose also.
I live East of Kansas City about an hour and a half and would totally be willing to help in anyway locally and will probably reach out to my local department just to let them know incase of an emergency need.
Very cool! Count me in from Anchorage!
This is a rad idea. I am going to talk to my local police chief. Talk about safe recon.
love this story, perfect application other than search and rescue, drones pilots rule 👏
That's epic! I have been asked to do some strange things with drones, but never search for a suspect in a house. I'm in MA, and could do something like this quickly, depending on the drive.
Wow! I love this story! Thanks for sharing 😊
Awesome flying!
Very cool, being a retired police officer with 30 years of service, I can see this as a very important tool to save lives. In a cost effective manner!
Definitely, I'm surprised we haven't heard more about tiny FPV quads used to find bad guys.
Thanks for sharing! This is AWESOME! Definitely sign me up!
This should be considered a felony to use these devices in such a way against Us citizens who haven’t been proven guilty in a court of law lol. This is a joke
Damn that's crazy/awesome 😳 this past winter I was flying my parrot bebop 2 filming the sunrise from the bluffs overlooking the city I live in when a white utility truck pulls up and the two men it watch me for like 10 minutes. Eventually the men come over to me and start asking me questions about the video quality and I tell them it's not the greatest but decent then one of them asks me "see that tower over there? Would you be able to fly it up there and get a tight shot of that silver box and wire terminals?" Told him no problem sent it up and got what he needed. They offered me some $ and I thanked them but declined telling them that I can't be doing drone work because I don't have my part 107 and after explaining that to them asked me for my name and address and I gave it to them and they took off. About a month later I got the mail and there was a $100 gift card for our local steak house with a post It not on the back thanking me. Not as cool as working for the cops but thought it was nice of them to hook me up.
Thanks for sharing!
Can you share the build specs? I really want to build that one.. looks like it flys beautifully! Reminds me of my flywoo nano baby…
well done and well said.
Awesome stuff !!!
That is very cool! Did some training in Florida with some Green Beret's and Rangers. We taught them how to fly tiny whoops and the used them in training on breaching a house . They really loved them and were amazed how useful such a small inexpensive drone can be so helpful. Sign me up! I would definitely do some of this kind of flying. Let me know if anyone in Alabama is interested. There definitely needs to be some kits made for law enforcement.
Amazing story! This is the type of FPV drone and law enforcement collaboration that we need in this community! Too much of the other 'bad stuff' is overshadowing it!
No this is absolutely abhorrent and concerning. Helping state agents like this is un-American
@@Jeremy-ff3jm If the collaboration helps change the perception of FPV pilots among law enforcement agents, it can only benefit the community as a whole.
Good job thanks for sharing
Wow this is awesome Shawn I hope this picks up more steam for you. This shit is cool I can get mine tiny whoops up and get on your list to someone who can help.
Dude, nuts! That’s an awesome story!
Hey Shaun just a quick one I watch a lot of channels like bluecam or donut operator and the body cam style videos there is a video I watched where a guy barricaded himself inside his house and they sent 3 or 4 avatas in there to check it out thought it was awesome and the first time I have seen drones used like that cool job man love it
damn, ill never look at my tiny whoops the same way now
I love this video that was awesome.
I know my local cops are using the DJI Avata with a light on it. Is flying an Avata as easy as a Mavic?
I'm an FPV pilot in San Diego with the ability to build. How can I get involved in this?
That was crazy great flying, especially in the attic. How can i get involved with this?
cool. what props are the cyan ones please?
Incredible story! Positive drone news that we need right now as well. Very insightful into the unique ways a drone, FPV specifically, can save lives. That part where he rips it out at 7:40 is chilling. Takes a lot of skill to fly calmly in a situation like that.
Cool video Shawn!
This is very cool, and I have thought of this myself, but with ducted whoops, so if you hit something you wont break a prop and be down. That would be the only downfall I see with your kit.
Very cool story and accurate observations. There is a ton of value, but skill needed to operate has quite a curve. So I no longer count on wide adoption.
I watched a bodycam video where you could hear the tinywhoop just behind them.
Not the channel I was expecting when I saw the thumbnail 😂
❤ drones save lives
I can do this type of flying in utah! only have a 5" atm but will be getting a whoop soon
I fly fpv. Winslow, AZ area. Always down to assist if needed.
poor doggie.
Awesome story got to subscribe for this
The DJI Avata would have been perfect for this. Much easier to fly and would hold vertical attitude much better.
Good story ty
I would never promote surveillance drones for law enforcement. We are spied on enough. You think these cops don’t abuse this? You better guess again. This guy and his views are one of the problems with this country.
What did you do for lights in the attic situation?
just a simple led. You can see the general idea on the front of the drone under the camera at the end of the video.
So what happened? how did they get him out?
Great stuff- sign me up! I'm in Moody, TX. (Up near Temple/Belton)
This is an incredible story, Shames. Thanks for sharing
this is a 10M views video soon , this should be a scene in a movie, so cool !! good job man 💪🏻
Bodycam game
Yes please sign me up
Cole is a PRO whoop pilot now, sitting ready
that was a great story +10 respect. I think this is a great use of drones
I've seen some swat videos before with a DJI whoop. This was years ago. The tech is even better/smaller now. Great video mate!
Cool video, bro.
I mean they're using FPV drones in Ukraine pretty heavily. It's just insane how effective they are for how cheap they're making them. And those are all one time use, if you know what I mean.
There's a very good (but very disturbing, viewer discretion advised) documentary about UA drone pilots right here on UA-cam.
Cool.
Good video and story. I was actually pistol whipped hitch hiking 25 years ago. I’m a freestyle pilot and want to get into this kind of stuff. I’m tired of doing carpentry for a living.
I've thought about this exact thing for years, it's awesome that you actually did it. There was a news story on YT several years ago about a PO who made a surveillance kit with a whoop that he was hoping would catch on with other police departments but I never heard anything more about it. Seems like a great cost-effective solution for a police department to have on hand, but of course there has to be someone who knows how to fly the thing and also maintain the gear.
Awesome story. Glad I stumbled across this. Well done, sir.
If I can find the video I will link it here if thats cool mate
Really cool story. Thanks for sharing it!
🤘🤠
So we can enter property without a warrant because it's a drone now?
Great story. I’ve been on 4-5 missions like this with the dept I work for. Funny enough my first one was with a full size Mavic 2 with prop guards. That justified the purchase of smaller purpose built whoops and gear.
The ability to save lives all around is invaluable.
Racing certainly is a great training conduit aswell. 😎
Very cool story big Shawn. Personally, my favorite bit was your discussion on the impact of your perceptions. The fact that the simple thing you did likely led to one more person still being alive. Powerful stuff. Thanks for sharing!
This is incredible footage and an invaluable tool for LE.
That’s epic! Definitely gonna try and show this to everyone I meet!
This was crazy btw.
Just subeed
neat
I'm in Norcal Bay Area if anyone needs a licensed fpv pilot
hey keep me on that list

I can’t support this at all, it’s further taking our hobby away from being a hobby, and turning it into a weapon. Like this isn’t the kind of exposure we need.
😂
Alright then, might head to police station today. Gotta lead by example and its better to talk to them first than have a karen call.
Well, first! :)
