If it's 1 in 80 Million, that means you have six times more chance to win the lottery! But they sort of held that contest in the UK, but instead if you could memorize the entire song perfectly, and sang it to the staff, you'd get a free big mac with your meal.
They had that regionally! In Florida, they had the 'if you can sing the menu song you win the food item of the day' - It was usually a Mcmuffin or something small.
dude i can’t believe i haven’t come across your channel yet. checking it out for the first time and it’s instantly one my of favs. always loved this vintage fast food type stuff, toys etc. incredibly nostalgic
2:00 This story sounded so familiar to me, and then I remembered that the same exact thing happened to Krusty the Clown on The Simpsons. Krusty lost millions of dollars due to an Olympics-themed contest at his Krusty Burger restaurant chain. In retaliation, he vowed to spit in every 50th burger.
Omg!! The nostalgia is so intense it takes the breath out of my lungs. Lol Thanks again for taking me back in time again. I'll swear to my grave the 80's and 90's were the best decades to grow up in. We were in the brink of major changes, but the simplicity of life and pureness was still there. Damn I miss those times. The internet really has changed our world these last couple decades for the good, but really for the bad. The quality of family life has declined as alot of us are always on our phones or on the computer when back before the internet it just seems like the family bond was way stronger because we spent more time with each other. If I had a choice as much as I love the internet and new tech, I would rather live back in those times for sure. Much respect brother and keep up the good work! Love your vids!!!😃
***** Actually I enjoyed the 90's more too. I was born in 81' and really didn't start having memories till around 88' 89'. I was given a pair of headphones with an am, fm radio at age six or seven and I can remember always listening to the radio and then watching mtv when it first came out. I was even exposed to alot of movies. My dad had a Atari 2600 and a I was able to buy a Nintendo at an early age from being a paperboy and detasaling corn. Lol That's good you found faith. I was raised in a Christian family though I kind of broken off when I grew up, but I still believe and have faith in Jesus Christ. I still pray everyday too even though I don't go to church every Sunday and I know I sin alot and I often feel like I'm not worthy. I know the Bible says that we all sin and fall short of the glory of God. I've never been baptised before, but to me that is just an outward expression and God just wants what's in out hearts. I feel that is what he really wants and can see what is deep in all our hearts. Sorry I'm going off on a rabbit trail, but thanks for the reply. 😀😁
***** haha!! Hell yes I remember that! I remember buying the Sony Walkman that had the first rewind button on it. It had the clip on the side so I could show it off while riding my bmx. I thought I was baller status for sure. Lol The music always stayed with me and I listened to it all besides country. It a big reason why I became a dj I think. I just always loved blasting the radio while riding my bmx around town. I wish I still had my he-man and ninja turtle figures though. I had the Beetlejuice and Batman action figures too. My dad influenced me to sell them all when we had a yard sale when I was younger. Him being the Christian Bible humper, he hated the fact that I had them. Remember micro machines and pound puppies? Lol
+The Kinsella Bunch Vlog I never really got into pogs, but my brother was. It was mainly baseball cards and action figures and nes. I still have my powerglove.
I thought I was going to win at Mcdonalds Monopoly as a kid. Dude, that is absolutely amazing you had that record and then the way you incorporated it in to the video was genius.
The funny thing is, even though I still have those old game pieces and probably did have the record in the 80s, I didn't have the record as an adult until a couple years ago. A friend of a friend gave it to me. I was planning on doing something with the record for awhile but only recently did I think to do a whole video with all the 80s contests.
Especially after they mentioned about them coupons lol. This made me hit subscribe so fast. You're officially my 80s big bro. I LIVE for the 80s every single day., 😊😊😊😊😊
+ORIGINAL VLOGGER 80'S WEIRD PAUL I seen of the Japan one as seen on the Japanese McDonald's commercials Me makes me hungry that mr big brother what's to eats me bitch asstlevania bitch.
Thanks! Check out my McDonalds calendar collection video too if you have a chance! It was the first new video that I made just for UA-cam back in 2012! ua-cam.com/video/xInkjipvTlg/v-deo.html
Ahhh that damn record that came in the paper! me & my sister were so bummed out lol thanks once again for bringing back some heavy childhood nostalgia man!
The Monopoly contests certainly had been a breadwinner for the restaurant. I remember wanting to save those pieces and try to fill up one section of that board and never getting it completed. There was always that one elusive sticker that was barely printed up.
I remember the Passport contest, with the commercials starring that guy that went "eeYEEEEEESSS?". And I also remeber the ridiculous McDonalds/Jewel Foods Store joint-venture contest... But I think that was limited only to the Chicagoland-area.
I actually won something from that Minions thing McDonalds did about a year ago. It was a medium iced coffee. I wasn't expecting it to taste that good, but it actually did!
Thanks for the McMemories :) I liked the way you re-purposed different pictures of the McDonalds clown to match your narrative. As with the McDonalds clown, I think you should repurpose short segments from your childhood vids. You could build up a library of catch phrases that you can weave into your current videos. That would be pretty surreal. I remember collecting Superhero trade cards from Wimpy back in 1979.
Whenever I don't have anything to show for a certain part of a video, I try to figure out something unique to do. The clown pictures from the old calendars were perfect. Just today, I once again re-visited an idea I have had for awhile, a video where I show clips from the 80s of me saying my "catch phrases" I made up then and still use in conversation now!
I always wondered if anyone ever got that winning record. Guess not. Wish I still had my copy from back then. Another great vid, by the way! Thanks, Paul!
There was a winner in the menu song contest. A 13 year old boy had it. His mother redeemed it. She flew to Chicago and was videotaped for promotional purposes. She bought her own store but ended up selling it at a list. Family members stile from her. Her daughter and son no longer speak to each other. The woman's boyfriend emptied out her bank accounts. The woman's was lousy with money and has since died. Her son , who found the flexidisc, says finding the record was the worst thing that ever happened to his family.
I accused our paperboy of going thru all the McDonalds ads/records that particular Sunday when this contest came out so he could have an unfair upper hand at winning the million :)
I often think that someone within the company made sure that winning record never made it out into the public, not surprising. I remember the give aways back in the 70's. I have never been a McDonald fan. I have a friend who's wife works there and can get food for me any time I want, but I pass every time. Too bad she doesnt work at Burger King or Kentucky Fried.
@wierdpaul I can't believe you have that McDonald's record. If I remember correctly in New York it was given in the Daily News paper probably a weekend edition. I wish you would have let the next verse play out because I remember EVERY SINGLE the next verse would mess the song up AT THE VERY RND and it would be a loser. Lol. It would get all the way to the part that says " I love McDonald's good time great taste and you get this all at one place" and they would mess that line up lol. I guarantee your record does the same. Great video.
Awesome video I am still wondering if the winning record is still around and how much it is worth Did no one use it and there dog got it? Did they use it and win that million dollars? is it still on card in a warehouse somewhere?
Paul did you see the story from Vice about the kid who actually won that prize it was featured on Facebook last week. His mama had to claim the prize, because the guy was a minor. His family had a horrible misfortune after winning. He said that when he played the record it gave him a 1-800 number to call. His mama died penniless. He was from a tiny town West Virginia.
This was not a contest, but does anyone remember the weird puzzles McDonald's put out in the 80s? You would fold and rearrange pieces of printed paper to create pictures of McDonald's sandwiches, etc.
+ORIGINAL VLOGGER 80'S WEIRD PAUL Holy crap Paul - I looked those Atari game cards up on ebay last fall and cards that were unscratched were listed for hundreds! And a set of four were listed for $5000!! And I thought I could pick up one for my collection for a couple bucks! Congrats on still having those!
I play the Monopoly game whenever McD's has it. For whatever reason, I always end up 1 game piece short of winning whatever prize is featured. For example, of the 4 railroad company tokens, I will accumulate 3 of them rather easily, but the winning 4th token always eludes me. I would occasionally get some instant win tokens for free food, but that was about it.
I loved the Atari game pieces! But that McDonald's record would have pissed me off when I was a kid! lol Also, I sent your mask out today. Should be there in a few days. :)
Actually, the winning record was found in Galax, VA according to this article: www.google.com/amp/s/munchies.vice.com/amp/en_us/article/vbqwb4/what-happened-to-the-winner-of-mcdonalds-1988-dollar1-million-flexi-disc-contest
That damn record! I thought I'd never see it again! I always was eager to hear the song, and I must have collected 28 or so, and whenever I heard them screw the song up, I would just stop the record, check the coupons, and they didn't even have anything good there. Because of this single McDonald's record from Hell, I now permanently hate flexidiscs.
Awesome McMemories Paul. I wish you would have had a winning record there. Maybe they would had honored it! Do you happen to remember when McDonalds had a free steak knife promotion? Seemed pretty strange and don't think that would go over too well today lol.
Thanks! I should have dug a little deeper. Someone online said that there was no "record" of anyone being a winner, but after I uploaded this someone else told me there supposedly was a winner. Can you imagine the talk in the McDonald's board room after someone won: "I thought you said the odds were 1 in 80 million!!"
hey Paul by any chance do u remember the little green guys McDonald's would put I. the happy meals? I remember one of them was holding a drill. they had some sort of construction tool they held
that's really cool my favorite fast food is Macdonalds. I remember my mother and father they did for me and my sister our birthday party at Macdonalds for my 6th birthday and my sister 1st birthday 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Awesome video! That record is pretty crazy, though. How could it be 1 in 80 million, since I doubt they printed 80 million of such records. If they had, it would be very costly, even if each record cost 5 cents, that would still cost them $4 million.
Forgot about this video. Zoinkies! Did you hear about that guy who put his secret sauce in the milkshake mix at Arby's in Washington state?! Just happened.
+ORIGINAL VLOGGER 80'S WEIRD PAUL true, the Internet is why I love the 80s. I like the 80s mostly because of the hardcore punk, thrash metal and British metal scenes and the fact that a vinyl record didn't cost $20.
So true. I still have some of my receipts from buying records in the 80s. Most new records were $7.99-$9.99 and you could get lots of good sealed records at department stores for under $6.
In 1984 Russia China East Germany Cuba and other top countries didn't participate in the Los Angeles Olympics. Thus I ate a shit load of big Macs that summer
You're right! www.highbeam.com/doc/1P2-1203537.html Still hard to believe someone actually had and played the winning record! I wonder if her store is still open...
"Don't let me down, fam!" hahaha
Let me down again.
If it's 1 in 80 Million, that means you have six times more chance to win the lottery!
But they sort of held that contest in the UK, but instead if you could memorize the entire song perfectly, and sang it to the staff, you'd get a free big mac with your meal.
Psht if I'm gonna take the time to memorize that long ass song I'd better at least get the Big Mac meal
UK version makes more sense
Agreed!
That is a better contest. The US contest could only have one winner, what the hell kind of a contest is that?
They had that regionally! In Florida, they had the 'if you can sing the menu song you win the food item of the day' - It was usually a Mcmuffin or something small.
how does weird paul not have 10 million subscribers? genius! you are the best 80's archivist, brother. keep up the weird .
Thanks Ludmilla! I know what I am doing is important and hopefully more people will realize it, too!
That record playing then the switch to your eager face had me laughing my head off!
I thought I had a chance!
Glad you like it! Here's how I do it: ua-cam.com/video/sv6FUE6eXpU/v-deo.html
This is you at your funniest with awesome content and flowing editing. Thank you for sharing.
Glad you liked it and thanks for watching, as usual!
holy cow i had that record! so funny. i wonder what happened to it? ! great video. thank you so much for taking me back!
Thanks, happy to help!
"Be sure to eat your big............. A crummy commercial? Son of a bitch!" I loved the look you gave at the end of the record.
haha!
I remember playing this one a lot though. I think I like hearing the guys goof up that song.
OVALTINE?!
I remember my friend's mom singing part of that song to us in the car once.
Wow, I am sorry Rich.
Hahah! McMemories! I remember that record. We thought we won. My mom threw away the record because all I did was play it. Sorry you didn't win. Hah!
haha, your mom must have been pretty sick of it!
You Are Still Able To Get The Record From eBay!
dude i can’t believe i haven’t come across your channel yet. checking it out for the first time and it’s instantly one my of favs. always loved this vintage fast food type stuff, toys etc. incredibly nostalgic
Thanks Chuck! Lots more on the way!

You personally stand to lose $44,000,000
Thanks a bunch Weird Paul...as always, loved it!!

Thanks! The world is very VERY different, there's no doubt!
Very true. The 90s were a terrible time for me and I don't even like thinking about them.
omg you really keep all the old stuff. you earn a sub from me
Thanks for the sub!
Your faces during the McDonald's song...priceless!!!
I thought they were going to make it through the whole song! And then my world fell apart!!
I thought I was going to win at Mcdonalds Monopoly as a kid. Dude, that is absolutely amazing you had that record and then the way you incorporated it in to the video was genius.

I was devastated!

Loving this old camera!
Thanks! Still using it!
Man that record had me cracking up! Great vid Paul!
Thanks Mike!
Wow I love watching these vintage memorbillia vidoes
Thanks James! I have lots of them and more to come!
ORIGINAL VLOGGER 80'S WEIRD PAUL I can't wait to see more, they sure bring back childhood memories!

that was great Paul. thanks for these and the trip down McDonald's university lane. songs & games oh my
Thanks for watching!
Wow Paul, I have so many good memories surrounding McDonald's and this video reminded me of what a big part it played in my life, so cool:)
Thanks! Check out my McDonalds calendar collection video too if you have a chance! It was the first new video that I made just for UA-cam back in 2012! ua-cam.com/video/xInkjipvTlg/v-deo.html

dear lord! the frickin skill the guy has on the record
He got BARS!!
BEST YOU TUBE CHANNEL EVER!
The Monopoly contests certainly had been a breadwinner for the restaurant. I remember wanting to save those pieces and try to fill up one section of that board and never getting it completed. There was always that one elusive sticker that was barely printed up.
Yep...it seems like most contests have that one piece that you just can't get...
five minutes and thirty seconds in he's real happy, but exactly 10 seconds later his face says it all haha.
Ha ha ha ha ! Your face when you blew out a million dollars.
I nearly wet myself laughing. Nice one🙂
That was the biggest disappointment of my life! Oh well, things can only get better.
I remember the Passport contest, with the commercials starring that guy that went "eeYEEEEEESSS?". And I also remeber the ridiculous McDonalds/Jewel Foods Store joint-venture contest... But I think that was limited only to the Chicagoland-area.
Yeah that "eeYEEEEESS" guy! I felt like he was all over the place back then!
Holy cow,.. I laughed my butt off when your realized you didn't win. (5:38) That was comedy gold !! Thanks Paul !!
I actually won something from that Minions thing McDonalds did about a year ago. It was a medium iced coffee. I wasn't expecting it to taste that good, but it actually did!
Maybe there was some sugar in it!
Thanks for the McMemories :) I liked the way you re-purposed different pictures of the McDonalds clown to match your narrative. I remember that olympic McDonald's give away. I remember eating Big Mac's all week!
That RULES
I always wondered if anyone ever got that winning record. Guess not. Wish I still had my copy from back then. Another great vid, by the way! Thanks, Paul!
Thank you Matt!
I love your videos! I was a 90s baby but I love both the 80s and 90s.
Thanks! I was a 70s baby, but I definitely relate more to the 80s!
+ORIGINAL VLOGGER 80'S WEIRD PAUL yeah, I understand. Either way , I'm glad you make these videos it's like a history lesson haha.
I've been waiting to school UA-cam for a long time!
+ORIGINAL VLOGGER 80'S WEIRD PAUL Hahaha well keep up the good work teach. 😉
I came across your channel a couple days ago it’s good
Thanks and thank you so much for watching! 😁
Just found your channel..love it it's great ..keep up the great work!😃
Thank you very much!
I remember that record, lol the look on your face when the singers screwed up
I swear they were about to finish the song!!
Another world class video
I aim to please
Epic. I remember all of those contests. So cool.
Thanks Jackson!
So weird and so cool. Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
There was a winner in the menu song contest. A 13 year old boy had it. His mother redeemed it. She flew to Chicago and was videotaped for promotional purposes. Edward Schlak & April Bushey wow! What a crazy story! Just Money can bring out the worst in people! GREED
All of this stuff was great.
That REUNION song was also rewritten as a jingle for the Tyson's Corner Mall in VA...
That video was awesome!
Thank you very much!
I accused our paperboy of going thru all the McDonalds ads/records that particular Sunday when this contest came out so he could have an unfair upper hand at winning the million :)
haha, an unfair upper hand
Omg. Thank you Paul! That just took me back to being a kid. I had this same record and I remember playing it at the neighbor’s house.
I remember the centipede McDonald's contest, I would love to find some of those sweet scratch offs or the toys they use to put your kids meal in.
I have a lot of kids meal toys, I want to do a video on them soon.
Yeah, I read there was some big scandal with one contest...all the winning pieces were taken by someone internally and they got caught.
Lol. I guarantee your record does the same. Great video.
I played the entire record. I think it's in there!
I remember the game where Mcdonald's was giving away a gold/silver mine. I would love to see those old game pieces.
Awesome video
I am still wondering if the winning record is still around and how much it is worth
Did no one use it and there dog got it? Did they use it and win that million dollars? is it still on card in a warehouse somewhere?

That record contest seemed pretty neat.
Yeah! A neat way for McDonalds to not have to give anything away to anyone!
That's the perfect place to get it.
Holy crap, that record contest is ridiculous! I wonder how many times those singers had to sing that menu until they got it right.
I hope they had to sing it 80 million times.
ORIGINAL VLOGGER 80'S WEIRD PAUL Ya, they had to record 80 million times and for each one had to mess up at a different point.
LOL
always love bein schooled on sum mcdonald's history. hope u had an eventful fourth, dude!!
Thanks Adam!
This was not a contest, but does anyone remember the weird puzzles McDonald's put out in the 80s? You would fold and rearrange pieces of printed paper to create pictures of McDonald's sandwiches, etc.
I like the 80s you torch a Balt it sow thank you very much :).
Those video game scratch off cards look so rad
Honestly out of everything I have saved, I am really glad I didn't throw those out.

Also, I sent your mask out today. Should be there in a few days. :)
I'm watching for it!!
dam this song is catchy.
Yeah it's the kind of thing that might go through your head late at night so you can't sleep
The record that has the full song on it is probably lost media now.
Yeah. It would be interesting to hear how the winning record would have sounded.
Which camera do u use? I love that vintage look ❤️
Check out this video for more info about the camera I use: ua-cam.com/video/sv6FUE6eXpU/v-deo.html
Actually, the winning record was found in Galax, VA according to this article: www.google.com/amp/s/munchies.vice.com/amp/en_us/article/vbqwb4/what-happened-to-the-winner-of-mcdonalds-1988-dollar1-million-flexi-disc-contest
It's all been coming to light since I made this video! Which is good!
why do I get the feeling that record never existed
I know this is 3 months old..
But--The winning record? It existed because there was an actual winner.
It's probably not around anymore though.
ScootsNB Indeed, a woman from Virginia got the million dollars from the record and used that money to buy the store she worked at.

The 13 year old son found the record in a stack of newspapers he was gonna burn in the fireplace. Talk about fate!
There's not much to love about flexidiscs.
Not really. They can be really wobbly and distorted at times.
I still have that record:)
Man that is some realistic VHS style. Do you actually put it through a VHS for the effect or is it just a filter?
xXt0x1c-sl1m3Xx he's recording with VHS
Wow awesome dude
Thanks
For some reason that record reminds me of that song I've been everywhere. I think the Australian one was sung by Lucky Starr?
Yes, here in the US we knew it from Johnny Cash.
Good ol' Johnny Cash.
Awesome McMemories Paul. I wish you would have had a winning record there. Maybe they would had honored it! Do you happen to remember when McDonalds had a free steak knife promotion? Seemed pretty strange and don't think that would go over too well today lol.
Nice research WP..
That sounds like a great memory!
I never knew they used Darth Vader's TIE Fighter in the Star Raiders promotional art! Kooky!
Man, now I want Mc'Donald's
Is the guy on the McDonald's record comedian Dana Gould? Sounds like him.
Did you hear about the movie coming out about the mafia rigging the Monopoly McDonald's contest?
i should've known the austin powers "peel it off and win baby" wasnt the first time they tried this
Oh, behave McDonalds!
+ORIGINAL VLOGGER 80'S WEIRD PAUL ahaha
Awesome video!
That record is pretty crazy, though. How could it be 1 in 80 million, since I doubt they printed 80 million of such records. If they had, it would be very costly, even if each record cost 5 cents, that would still cost them $4 million.
I would imagine their overhead was much much lower than that. They might have gotten, say, 100 records for each penny.
Forgot about this video. Zoinkies! Did you hear about that guy who put his secret sauce in the milkshake mix at Arby's in Washington state?! Just happened.
Vey cool, you make awesome videos. I was born in the wrong century. I should have been born in 1969 so I could be 12 in 1980! I love the 80s!
Thank you! The 80s were fun, but you have to try to imagine one thing...no internet!
+ORIGINAL VLOGGER 80'S WEIRD PAUL I wish it was like that today
You and me both!
I'm pretty sure you could've won that Paul
Haha I had that record and instead of winning I tried my hardest to learn that damn song hahaha
hahaha
I remember the Simpsons did a spoof of the Olympics of '84 incident
I've been hearing about that. I need to check that out.
I laughed badly when the stylus drop out from the grooves
In 1984 Russia China East Germany Cuba and other top countries didn't participate in the Los Angeles Olympics. Thus I ate a shit load of big Macs that summer
Congrats lol
I was only 2 in 1984 but I had a feeling this Big Mac promotion was real since it was satirized on The Simpson's episode Maggie's First Word.
Cool Video!!😎👏👏
Out of curious,Im assuming you dont eat fast food often anymore but when you do. Whats your go to joint? 🍔🍟
Actually the disc was found and played.
So they say
I enjoy your vids, we are the same age and I recall all this stuff. One question though, is there anything you didn't save from your childhood?
Thanks! I addressed that question in this video: ua-cam.com/video/2f0_13zYAho/v-deo.html
It would've been really funny if you had the winning record!
Wouldn't it? I was kind of hoping it would be it, what a great video that would have made!
Did you win McDonald contest, when you get $1,000,000?
I hope nobody called 911 over not getting the $1 million prize for the record...
Cool
Thanks
I read somewhere that Some woman won the contest and bought the convenience store she worked at with the money.
But who knows if thats true lol
You're right! www.highbeam.com/doc/1P2-1203537.html
Still hard to believe someone actually had and played the winning record! I wonder if her store is still open...
